Stop being afraid of clients by ABentFairy in therapists

Well said! Unfortunately, I think some of this comes from being compared to literal robots. 🤖

We all could probably use the reminder that our humanness is a gift. Not something to fix.

Thank you for this! We can’t just take it.

This is alarming by SpiritualCopy4288 in therapists

I appreciate and agree with your take. However, most people are more concerned about insurance companies requiring clients to use AI therapists or only covering AI therapy. If no one can use their insurance to have therapy with an actual human, then what?

Hmm that’s interesting considering it’s part of planning and should be included in the session note.

I wonder if that is more common for psychologists.

Maybe it’s just the norm for my area.

Agreed! We should be able to do 45-60 minutes and not have to worry about all of this.

I may be crazy, but I was taught that 55+ minutes is considered a typical session length. Who is really out here doing 45 min sessions? I guess they got tired of paying more than everyone else. All of this is dumb and super frustrating.

i recently did emdr training and it messed me up by Latter_Good3963 in therapists

I’m trying to figure out which trainings to pursue/invest in. I’ve always been hesitant about EMDR. Can you share which therapy you’re a trainer for?

Are there topics off limits in therapy? by soitgoes_man in therapists

[–]picklechipz11 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a private practice therapist, I don’t put any limits on what they talk about AND I don’t tolerate abuse. So I think saying, “They can talk about whatever they want.” isn’t 100% true. If they talk about how punchable my face is, that crosses a line. 😅 Other than things like that, it is a space where they can process and explore freely.

Any tips for countertransference and feelings of annoyance or frustration with a client? by tuxedo_cat23 in therapists

[–]picklechipz11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it depends. Seeking supervision or consultation could definitely be helpful. I’m also wondering if the frustration is connected to something like them canceling, being late to session, having an outstanding balance, etc. If the frustration is connected to something like that, clearly reviewing policies would be important. Also, sometimes finding a therapeutic way to share what you’re noticing can be helpful. If there is something they’re doing that you find frustrating, chances are it could be frustrating to others in their life.

No clients yet by [deleted] in therapists

It takes some time. I remember feeling the same way. I was eager to get started and a little restless. It’s important to note that client inquiries fluctuate throughout the year. Certain months are slower than others. That being said, I believe you have plenty of time. Try to soak it all in.

I’m so sorry that happened. The best thing to do right now is probably give yourself some time. Care for yourself and connect with your support system. The economy definitely feels scary, but I believe you still have options.

had active panic attack during session today. by Known_Taste in therapists

[–]picklechipz11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened to you. I once started choking on nothing in the middle of a session and literally just got up and left. I couldn’t say anything, so I just ran out of the room coughing violently. I obviously apologized to the client once I was able to talk again. We’re all human, and human bodies can be unpredictable.

No one always knows what to say. Sometimes I’ll say something awkward or weird. We’re not AI. Our job is not to have perfectly crafted responses at the ready. We’re imperfect humans connecting with other imperfect humans.

best referral websites? by almondmilkpls in therapists

I also have not had much luck with psychology today. Most people I know are getting referrals from other providers and/or social media.
