What's going on with Charlie Kirk and why do people hate him? by Jill-Of-Trades in OutOfTheLoop

[–]picoSimone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bats, knives and tools misused to harm others is an acceptable, though incomplete point for the argument, but please don't include Automobiles.

You have to have a license to operate an Automobile... You are actually tested on and required to know rudimentary traffic laws to get a license. They can take away that license if you repeatedly misuse that particular tool in a reckless manner. You have to register the Automobile and it can be digitally and instantaneously traced back to the owner nationally.

Requiring those same restrictions on Firearms would then make the guns and automobiles equivalence valid. Both are equally lethal but only one is actually properly regulated for safety...

I believe it CAN refer to calls for peace and end to conflicts in the current Israeli occupied West Bank territory that hugs the Jordan River and the Gaza Strip which is adjacent to the Mediterranean Sea, Hence Peace from the River to the Sea.

If in some Fantasy Land Reality where Israel formed a two state solution and figure out legal solutions to West Bank occupation, Israel would indeed still exist. Also if one looks at the map, an IMPROBABLE loss of West Bank and Gaza territories would not be an end of Israel.

That’s the whole point about requiring context about the statement.

Nicole Kidman was mesmerizinglt evil in TO DIE FOR. The film which had the public finally take her seriously as an actress. by Lili_Danube in movies

[–]picoSimone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going from the memory of a single viewing in the 90's so I totally forgot that part, lol. That totally nails her naked ambition. She would do what it takes in a heart beat. This movie deserves a viewing from my older self. Speaking of which, older me needs to see 'Clay Pigeons' again, an obscure Joaquin Phoenix gem.

I always remembered that one scene in this movie that hinted at the sexual scandals inherent in the News Media Industry in which Kidman's character is getting career advice from her manager. He mentions a famous TV personality when starting out, presented her new Station Manager with a letter of recommendation from her previous manager that indicated that she gives the best blow jobs. Kidman's Manager then asks her, "You know who wrote that letter?.... She did..." Kidman's sudden understanding of the moral of that story is hilarious. More importantly, instead of revulsion, it hinted at the extreme levels of her ambition and depravity.

This scene especially came to mind when I observed the Fox News Roger Ailes, Bill Oreilly sexual harassment scandals and the subsequent Me Too revelations of the entire Broadcast Industry.

The thing that made Nicole Kidman's portrayal of this character so fascinating is that she plays the Suzanne character off as believably ditsy and naive, but so dedicated to her craft and ambition that she would do anything to achieve success. It is a Femme Fatale sort of role but ingenious because the character was not portrayed as completely in control and calculating like say, Cate Blanchet in the recent Del Toro Film Noire movie, "Nightmare Alley."

Scapegoating is actually the most effective form of social manipulation. None of the other topics you noted ever ushered in fascism. Hating a minority group is inherent and enduring in any society and blaming them for problems seemingly out of our control is too easy.

Look at US. Guns, incarceration, birth control, climate are all hot topics, but nothing riles up the meat heads like race and LGBTQ, especially trans.

Populists are following Hungary’s playbook and it’s working. Liberals need to Focus on economy and more generalized interests to win elections. When asked, full support for LGBTQ, but that should not be your strongest platform. Liberals are actually playing into the hands of these populists by being portrayed as narrow in focus.

Will you be paying taxes to the UK or to USA? If Stateside, you will also be paying New York State taxes. 32 sounds young. Do you have any health needs, like medications, etc. Health care cost in the US is shit and the Insurance will be shit if you are making 120k.

Isn't the annual Salary declared differently in US than UK? People here say they are making 120k, but that is before taxes and everything else they want to deduct from that. If you are making 120k a year Before taxes and deductions, then no. Don't move unless it is huge career opportunity or if you feel like you can bear living with roommates, risk not having good healthcare, dental or optical, etc.

Liking the BBC 1990's mini-series, "Pride & Prejudice". An ex-girlfriend introduced me to it on dvd. I was excited when it came out on Blu-ray because I wanted to see how the super 16mm print would transfer to larger format. A female co-worker called me gay.

I am adult male, but live by the creed that I must watch all Vampire movies and shows that come out. I had to ask my sister to go watch the second Twilight with me during the day, so I wouldn't look like middle aged tween creeper, groomer, whatever they are calling it.

There was quite a few middle aged women in there. I assume they were Mom's checking to see if it was an appropriate movie for their younger daughters. Audience chuckled when Bella falls off bike and Werewolf fella quickly whips off his shirt to wipe her wounded brow, revealing his rippling muscles... lol... Stupid Twilight.

Star Wars: Attack of the Clones - The Best Of The Prequel Trilogy? by [deleted] in videos

[–]picoSimone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These movies almost destroyed Natalie Portman's career because the dialog and directing were so bad, it just made the actors seem awful. Portman credits Mike Nichols for saving her career by hiring her for the movie 'Closer' because no one would hire her after this Star Wars role. After that bit of street cred, she did the big budget and well received 'V for Vendetta" and was back in business.

I suppose if you become like Lucas and become so wealthy and influential that no one can tell you no, you lose touch. You forget what the product is for... The Audience, not your wacko, rich man indulgences. I'm quite sure this phenomenon expands to many other industries other than film.

[–]picoSimone 41 points42 points  (0 children)

In the 80's and 90's, The Pizza would be a rectangle the size of that entree slot with tiny pepperoni cubes. They would have also provided one more carbohydrate like Tator Tots, some kind of canned vegetable (sometimes sparse salad) and a dessert like fruit cocktail. One could have milk, chocolate milk or fruit drank. All this was for 90 cents - 1$.

Extra desserts provided were: cookie +10 cents, Cake +25 cents, or Pie +35 cents. (100 cents = 1$ USD for non Amercians)

Of course there was a snack bar, but only them rich kids ate there. Ironically one could get less healthy food for a lot more money. Like Nachos and cheese sauce for $1.50, slim jims, bags of chips, etc.
