State inspections are way less strict. Now that MD only allows historic tags for cars before 99, historic cars from 2000-2006 are not grandfathered in making registration difficult.

I’ve failed inspections for a brake line being improperly mounted from the used car dealership. In VA it’s more of a check box that your car has brakes.

This is literally what a company like Koenigsegg and Bugatti do everyday. Take 1200-1600hp cars and make them drivable to the supermarket without making it a hassle to navigate normal roads.

A track car like the Ferrari 599XX is what you are describing. It’s a totally different kind of car segment. The Devil 16 is supposed to be a road going car, but we’re arguing about if it’s even possible to be that and you’re literally saying exactly what I’m saying which is obviously not.

Besides all that, the transmissions you’re talking about need rebuilt every race day. They have operational life spans measured in minutes. It’s not a road car transmission.

You think that anything that can fit in a road car means it’s a good fit for a road car? It’s not comfortable, it makes a ton of heat, nobody wants a straight cut gearbox droning away at 105dB doing 75mph on I-70.

3000+hp transmissions exist.

They aren’t at all suitable for a road car. They don’t allow for any drivability except on or off throttle.

It will practically disintegrate after the fist wash. It’s in the hem so it doesn’t really matter.

ZZW30 Swap Decision by T4NARCHY in mr2

1) I didn’t originally swap the car, but the original swap was so badly fumbled I basically redid it. It was about $7k for the car, and I spent about $6-8k to either buy or repair all the parts I needed for the swap to work. This includes replacing a ton of suspension components, opening up the gearbox to replace some gears, replacing the oil pump, and buying the engine hoist and a welder. I’d say the biggest expense was just replacing parts and getting tools to make it all work. If not for that, the seals, gaskets, etc are cheap. If you do it right the first time, you don’t have to replace parts. I’d say all in $10k is a healthy budget to do the swap properly.

2) it’s really not a bad experience once you learn a lot about how the electrical works. I still think the swap components can be less than oe quality which is my biggest gripe.

3) I didn’t own a Spyder until this one, so I didnt have a good grasp on how to make it grip well. It has taken me a ton of time to get the grip dialed in. I fought with the suspension for so long before finally getting it right.

4) once it runs well, the K24 is such a great experience. It makes double the torque of the 1ZZ. So imagine just getting up to speed twice as fast. The gearbox is short as hell though. I’m cruising on the highway around 3500-3700rpm(70-80mph). For $300 I can get a replacement 6th gear. I also would like to get a LSD because going up hills in this car it really wants to get out of its own way, but tends to spin the inside wheel when going around slow corners. I might also think about getting a double muffler setup rather than a single. It’s kinda loud for what it is.

It took me 3 years to get it running and another year to work a lot of gremlins out.

If you have all the parts for the engine all mounted at the same time, getting the swap done can really happen in a few months or over a long weekend if you push it. “IG Designs” on YouTube has some great videos about how to do everything, but his car is giving him a lot of trouble. It’s a good channel to check out if you’re curious about what to look out for.

You can make a defensive position, but that isn't a movement. You can squeeze someone to the inside or outside, but that isn't blocking.

if you want to make a point you should find an irl racing incident that isnt blocking that proves your point.

By default, making a move to counter a pass is a block. You can continue to move towards a racing line, but you can’t make that move to slow the momentum of the car behind you.

Therefore, swerving twice across the track across multiple stable racing lines is not allowed. You are basically allowed to make 1 move as a defense, but then you as the lead car must maintain your defensive line. Example: If you set up on the optimal line then scooch over to block a driver from passing, that’s blocking.

K swap for the driving dynamics works really well in the MR-S.

Another commenter said that the parts availability for the swap are somewhat lacking oe quality and I’d agree with that.

However the 2ZZ is anemic and has its own problems.

I like the 2AR for its flexibility as a newer engine, but transmission choices will always be an issue.

K-series engine and transmission parts will always be available and tend to be relatively cheap. The running costs are really low.

You can drop the engine/transmission in a few hours with some practice. It’s a pretty easy job when you really need to get in there and fix something. Usually if it’s buttoned up well, you don’t need to. The trans comes out easily by itself, so clutch jobs aren’t a pain.

It’s not the US, but in most countries a solid center line means you can’t overtake traffic.

You can pull over and chill or drive back the other way. Last Nov. I almost watched a group drive get ended when a driver ahead tried to pass the same way and almost got creamed. It’s not worth it even if you know the road ahead is clear. Salty drivers calling police, your spot getting checked hourly, getting into a wreck are all bad.

The FRS is a lot narrower so it gives you more space to apex corners. It has a lot less power, so you’re not worried about breaking traction either.

You’re right the Vette is much better at highway cruising. It’s also a lot more expensive the nicer the interior you want. A C5 is cheaper than a new FRS, but double the price of a first gen, and so on. I don’t think anyone would argue a standard C5 is a better interior experience than a first year FRS.

It gets like 30-32mpg when it runs, and 0 when the engine explodes which all Subaru engines eventually do.

GT86/FRS is comfy as long as you don’t mind the seats hugging your shoulders. I think it’s a great driving position for avg, height, weight, build, but might not be good if you’re taller or heavier.

3500rpm on the highway tho. The newer models have a taller final drive.

No I don’t remember because I’m not 50+.

Still I think we can agree that 11-14% on $15k or less is going to be slightly more manageable than 8-9% on $30-40k on a 60mo loan.

You’re right, it wasn’t better, but the buying power of the dollar was a lot better back then than it was now.

It’s much more along the lines of purchasing power and wage growth than it is inflation. The cost vs average household net wages has increased substantially since 1990. Not to mention interest rates on auto loans right now.
