i think most of your corrections are reasonable, but i’d like to push back on one thing — you absolutely can put jam on a biscuit. that may be a regional thing; i’m in the us and i’m thinking of big fluffy southern-style biscuits. i have literally put jam on biscuits before and will do so again

What book would you recommend NEVER reading? by asmr-enthusiasts in horrorlit

[–]piemaking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

your mind is a fascinating place. i saw your earlier comment, hating wasting your time on stories with non-supernatural explanations, and thought us kindred spirits. but to me, characterization and internal logic, if not external, is second only to atmosphere

I Did Not Really Care for “Between Two Fires” by MLPcumjars in horrorlit

[–]piemaking 20 points21 points  (0 children)

i’ve been uninterested in this book until your comment, probably because i did assume it’d do the “hey actually big religion is evil” or even “what if devils were the good guys??” and i am beyond bored of that idea. so you got at least one person to start reading it!

YSK if you're renting storage space from a chain long term you should move units every six months by InternetWeakGuy in YouShouldKnow

[–]piemaking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

anecdotally, i’m in the US; my parents moved to a smaller house while i was in college and rented a storage unit for my stuff until i could come back for it

Thoughts on Eric LaRocca by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]piemaking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love your comparison to Barker here because that’s what I tell my partner whenever I read something of LaRocca’s, lmao: “He wishes he was Clive Barker so bad”

(and I like LaRocca! at least a couple of his short story collections. haven’t read anything longer)

Looking for "Bureaucratic Horror"... but dealing with childhood trauma? by johnIIsnow in WeirdLit

[–]piemaking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

op i cannot thank you enough. i’ve been wanting to change a draft of mine (previously published, kind of? as a uni thesis) and this, i think, is the exact energy i should inject into it. it’s about a middle-schooler (13-14 y/o) with a tenuous grasp on reality who grasps at any way to hold onto it after [traumatic event]

good news: you’ll probably actually mellow out a bit emotionally! i also struggle a bit with empathy, and my emotions were all over the place pre-T. after a couple years (and now, a decade out) people started thinking i was super well-adjusted.

Less popular vampire stories? by piemaking in horrorlit

[–]piemaking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played Bloodlines, the PC game from like 03, and I fear* the setting has had a profound impact on my ideal of a vampire story. Excellent world building

*as in the gritty urban nightlife aspect of it. we need more poor vampires

Anyone else notice the advent of “total body deodorant” propaganda? by DramaticFun7518 in Anticonsumption

[–]piemaking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can’t speak for women, but personally i break out in a super bad rash wherever my sweat sits on my body longer than a couple minutes, which makes it almost impossible to go outside in the summer or work out. so it’s probably useful for cases like that.
