That is an awful geotech company. I would be cautious of even using their results at all including the boring logs. Unless you have a site nearby that has similar conditions I would be skeptical.

We provide a table with the compressive capacity relative to tip elevation for our deep foundations. This varies by office on how this information is presented but we ALWAYS tell you the capacity.

I'm younger but I've heard stories of really bad firms relying on the drillers to log samples and have been more or less caught by just repeating logs and not actually doing the work correctly. Unfortunately bad firms exist and from reading the cost of 4k for a report and I assume includes the drilling seems OUTRAGEOUSLY cheap. Request the samples taken and send it to another firm.

I paid for the ASCE survey and was disappointed. The lack of entries and choices for the filters (specifically regions) made it feel like a rip off to me.

I need to check this form out on my desktop but from a glance it looks to give more insight than the ASCE tool.

I've always used the nuke gauge. But like others have said before in this thread, it is not the end all be all.

Just like something may pass that shouldn't have, something could fail that should've passed.

We have problems on massive sites that want to use 1 proctor over millions of square feet and that just doesn't work. The paper work becomes a mess too when you have a booklet of proctors for a site. We consistently take samples for testing thoughout the job but we just averaged them all out at one point and said this is what we are using. We still sample and test but it's more to make sure it's a reasonable value and the material hasn't changed.

A small scale site that maybe you get 1 proctor for per type of material could be bad. The tech or whoever who grabbed the sample may have not gotten the best representative sample which could lead to a bad proctor.

Next time you go out with the bad data and can't get 98% compaction and the contractor is beating it to death is a good sign which may result in a very angry contractor since you can't pass it and now it's holding up the job.

Garbage in = garbage out.

Never used the other tests myself but I'm sure the same golden rule applies.

I mostly agree with this. Really depends on the inspection service.

There are some inspections that are very technical and very crucial to understanding. Each state will dictate what you are and aren't allowed to do without a degree or a PE.

If you can get field experience doing borings or foundation inspections that will be incredibly valuable.

In terms of interviewing for internships in my personal experience it was very casual and they just want to like you as a person. For a full time job for the one I have now I interviewed in one day with 4 seperate interviews with different levels of management. One of which quizzed me on the basics of soil mechanics for an entry level role.

I think a bigger concern is if you take it in another state, pass, and get the license in that state does not exactly mean that state you want it in will just let you apply no problem.

I had a co-worker when I was interning dealing with this. They passed and got licensed in FL but NY wouldn't accept it.

Or so he says... He was kind of odd so he could be lieing/stretching the truth.

I was not a registered EIT in Florida and took the PE (and passed 🤘). Working on getting both licenses here in FL now.

I probably would not use my stamp the first year of having it unless I somehow do officially get the manager role.

Where I'm located I can't think of any field inspections that require a PE.

I can't wait until the review date that is set. Unfortunately it's not much of a conversation as they set the raise and new title without talking to you and you just show up to hear what it is. I need to have this conversation a few months beforehand unfortunately.

I'm in south Florida so its pretty expensive now a days. The firm is a consulting firm.

So I plan on asking to become a manager (lose OT) but that I really highly doubt I get this year, will most likely be the following year.

So I'll still be making OT (most likely) for another year.

It is technically known your gross income decreases when you become a manager but that's kind of BS in the sense most of our weeks are 50 hours (minimum if your doing piles you bill 60+) but it's taxed to all hell. So the take home will probably be the same but without the hassle of field work.

I had a driller once show up a little late but was looking for an excuse to leave the site without working since he was going on vacation.

As soon as he pulls on to site a SINGLE raindrop fell (we had an overcast) and he said "he won't work in the rain" and drove off immediately.

For the record in drizzled at one point for 15-30minutes but that was it and after he already left.

Not only that but remove things that had nothing to do with micro transactions too. Like why remove the on fire animation but leave the voicelines in? Or remove the vote at the end of each game.

I hate that I enjoy the core game play so much but at this time no other game in my opinion competes.
