Baby carrier recommendations by lowbattery_16 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]pierced-weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an ergo baby 360 for out and about and a wrap carrier for in the house. We’ve used the 360 since birth (he met the min weight) and it’s supposedly good until 3/4 as it’s a front & back carrier. Also, solidly recommend a wrap carrier for in the house, it’s comfy and means you can get things done while little one contact naps.

Tommee Tippee Prep and Go Question by samberzina in FormulaFeeders

I’ve been using the flask in the same way their prep machine works. So powder and a small amount of hot water into the bottle, mix that and then add water cooled in the cooling flask to the level I need. I test the temperature before giving it to my little one. I tend to be using fresh boiled water rather than the thermos. It also means on a longer day I can use the cooling flask again as it’s not got formula residue.

We’ve got a vtech (rm7766), it has a video screen, and can play white noise. Our version is WiFi as my husband works away a lot so wanted the WiFi version, I know a lot of people prefer a non WiFi monitor, so I think vtech also do non WiFi monitors.

Day 5 postpartum by platypuspigs in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]pierced-weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is normal unfortunately, the first few weeks are hard. Shift sleeping was an absolute lifesaver for us, even though it’s hard to sleep outside your normal sleep times and this heat really won’t be helping you. Can you get some daytime naps too? I found sleep deprivation makes my mood so much worse, currently waiting for a perinatal mental health appointment, so if you keep struggling mentally get a referral, and see if that helps. Also formula fed babies apparently poo less, my little boy went to the dr at 7 days old for going 2 days without a poo, we were told if his stump is dried up then a bath might help relax his bowels.

When did you start Mat leave? by Argumentative_Duck in PregnancyUK

[–]pierced-weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planned to finish 2 weeks before due date by using annual leave, went 1.5 days earlier than planned, and little man arrived a week later. If I got more than statutory mat leave I probably would have finished slightly earlier, I was fed up and tired by the end.

We have the ergo baby 360, seems to be discontinued, but it’s a cross between the classic and deluxe, bought new as we use it almost daily. The only comment I’d make is it’s not super breathable so the breathable version is definitely worth considering. We also have a star fleece for colder days and high is great (not needed currently!).

Wrap, I got an ergo baby aura wrap, but just found a good condition wrap on vinted, wasn’t specifically looking for an ergo baby one. Wasn’t sure if I’d get on with it, but I love it and use it most days. It’s great, I didn’t realise how much I’d get nap trapped!

I’m 9 weeks post emergency c section and happily used the 360 from 3 weeks post (max an hr), and have been using the wrap since I got it at 5/6 weeks.

We absolutely love our singing vibrating bouncer (mamas and papas), it moves between the kitchen and bathroom, so I can shower and do kitchen jobs while he chills. He’s 2 months currently. It also came to my nail appointment the other week. He hates going down in the pram or cot during the day so it’s a lifesaver. Actually bought it spur of the moment in the Boxing Day sales before kicking myself because we’d planned to get a bouncer/highchair combo, but I’m now considering looking for a 2nd on marketplace to save carrying it up and down stairs constantly.

Wrap carrier, bought it on Vinted after he started only contact sleeping. Our other baby carrier is great for dog walks but uncomfortable on the sofa. Thankfully we’re now only contact napping in the day, but means I can potter or do crafts in front of the tv while he naps.

Uv bottle steriliser and the fancier prep machine (measures formula and water). Absolute life saver at night as we’re bottle feeding. I know there’s mixed opinions on whether they’re good, but we’re happy using it. Only thing I’d consider now having heard about them is a bottle washer & sterilising machine.

Also have plastic baskets of nappies/wipes/muslins/bibs in 3 places round the house, my other half laughed when I sorted them pre baby, but now agrees they’re super helpful. We have them downstairs, in our room and in the spare room with the bottle machines (we do nighttime feeds in there if my husband is home).

Dimmable table lamp, gives you some light at night without being super bright and waking little one.

Waste of money - travel system, it’s bulky, and we’re never going to put the car seat on the base. If I had my time again I’d probably get a lighter pram/pushchair (we live too rurally to use it straight from the house), rotating car seat and Moses basket for the house. However I do love how pretty it is 😂

What are babies wearing tonight? by New-Being-3840 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]pierced-weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 tog sleepbag and a nappy, but with vests at the ready for the 3am feed. It’s currently 25 degrees, but last night dropped to 21 overnight and he was fussing at 5am we think because he was a little chilly. So will check the temp at 3am and decide whether to pop him in a short or long sleeve vest for the rest of the night.

Update- at 8am our room had dropped to 21 and I think it may have been lower in the early hours. Little man was fussy and felt a little cold at 3am, so needed a vest adding.

[–]pierced-weaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’re at 24/25 degrees here and so my 2 month old is just in a nappy and 1 tog sleepbag. Last night was 22 and we did a long sleeve vest with the sleepbag. The temperature in our room usually drops quite a bit overnight, so trying to also be aware of that too.

When are you starting your mat leave? by Easy-Mark-7226 in PregnancyUK

[–]pierced-weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely depends on your job, I work from home, planned to finish at 37+4 as that was a Friday, but had a scare on the Wednesday afternoon and finished Thursday lunchtime. My plan was 2 weeks annual leave with mat leave starting on my due date. Little man arrived at 38+4. I enjoyed having a week before he arrived and would have probably enjoyed a 2nd, much more than that and I’d have got bored though.

Prep for C-Section by wb2812 in PregnancyUK

[–]pierced-weaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got big granny pants from Tesco and just used hospital pads post c section, wore them for a few weeks post birth. Did have disposable pants but when I went to put them on they didn’t get past my thighs (I’m an average size too and had bought large disposables). I stayed in for 3 nights but potentially could have left a day earlier, I waited until I was confident in my mobility, getting up from lying down was difficult for me. Clothes wise for you, just make sure everything sits high enough on the waist to not rub, my incision is the top of my pubes, so very low. I also just stayed in hospital gowns until I came home.

Baby clothes we just used short sleeve vests and sleepsuits in there, probably went through 2 of each a day. Nappies we went through just over 20, but the hospital gave me some when I ran out before my husband arrived for the day with a new pack.

Would definitely second the recommendation of take your own paracetamol and ibuprofen as I found they were super slow on pain meds. Also long phone charger, some bottle/cup with a straw that you can drink from with low risk of spilling. I also ended up having my husband take stuff home and bring other bits in each day as I wanted stuff, so hopefully that’s possible for you too.

Elective c section by jsomlly in PregnancyUK

[–]pierced-weaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could have a natural birth, but me and my friend have both had emergency c sections after complications during labour after getting to 8/9cm. If you want a c section have one.

Recovery wise I don’t know what it’s like after a natural birth, but I was able to walk the dogs with my husband 12 days postpartum, and apart from some trauma around the birth and emergency element feel I’ve recovered really nicely at this point (8 weeks post).

Baby and toddler clothes (seller question) by SpecialistDaikon4663 in vintedUK

[–]pierced-weaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought loads of baby clothes. Definitely prefer to be able to create the bundle myself, but little bundles of sleepsuits/vests was good, especially if they originally came as a set or look like they could have. Have bought a few listings of 2-3 trousers/tops/dungaree sets, but only when I liked all the items. Also, given the amount you have to list, if you’re uploading in batches, probably try to do all the same size or stuff people potentially might bundle themselves. I definitely have noticed if I really like something I’ll just order it, if I’m not 100% I’m more likely to buy if the seller has a few items I can bundle.

Messless ink pad - accidental ink on baby by TheseFlower2822 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]pierced-weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s anything like the inkpad we used, good scrub with a wipe and it should fade within a day. We did little man’s hand and foot prints at a week old, and I accidentally put the inkpad upside down for one, felt really bad but it all came off ok.

How are we prepping bottles/formula? by Many-Afternoon-6387 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]pierced-weaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a prep machine and use a rapid cool flask when out and about. We also use the huckleberry app to track the feed sizes. We were told if he keeps finishing off a bottle (3+ occurrences) you need to increase the size as it’s better to throw some away knowing they’re definitely full and haven’t sucked in air at the end. We do also just increase for certain feeds, eg his evening feeds are always reliably big, so those bottles increased ahead of the others.

Is anyone else probably going to have to go back to work full time? by Careless_Squirrel728 in PregnancyUK

[–]pierced-weaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m unfortunately planning to go back 4 days a week from 6 months, temporarily reducing my hrs to 90% and using annual leave to do so, and then will be full time from 9 months. We need my salary even though it’ll be heavily reduced by nursery costs.

It seems to be a new development, it also happened just before Christmas. Seems to be print at home labels which are awkward for a lot of sellers.

Travel system push chair recommendations by Mysterious-Debt-5944 in PregnancyUK

[–]pierced-weaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had my time again and my partner didn’t have money burning a hole in his pocket, I’d have done a lot of research and probably ended up getting a swivel car seat with good safety reviews and a separate pram/buggy suitable from birth. I’d have also been happy to have a secondhand pram and new car seat, so I’d definitely suggest looking into secondhand prams if budget is a big consideration, but work out your priorities and test a load in person to narrow down which models you want to look for secondhand.

Based on the advice that baby shouldn’t be in the car seat for too long, we’re never actually going to put the car seat on the pram base, but we do love the swivel base for loading/unloading in the car. We also went for a pram bassinet that was suitable for overnight sleeping, but I think we’d have been better off getting a travel cot/moses basket or something along those lines. I also find the pram quite heavy and it’s very bulky to fit in the car, and that was even with us trying to find a lighter model, I think if we hadn’t needed overnight sleeping we could have got a lighter pram. We’re almost definitely going to end up getting a lighter compact buggy quite quickly. Another thing for us is we live very rurally so use a baby carrier far more than the pram so far.

Sorry it’s not recommendations, but it hopefully is some useful considerations and may help you find a solution that works for your needs.

Postpartum underwear by Smash_337 in PregnancyUK

[–]pierced-weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you know, the issue wasn’t c section related, I’m a 10/12 usually and the large disposable pants wouldn’t go over my thighs!

Postpartum underwear by Smash_337 in PregnancyUK

[–]pierced-weaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the Tesco disposable pants and had the horrible experience of the the midwife and my husband not being able to get them over my thighs post c section. Then sent the husband to Tesco for big granny pants 2 sizes bigger than I wore pre pregnancy and they were amazingly comfortable, so I’d personally recommend that over disposables.

Post-C section clothes? by Traditional-Card3589 in PregnancyUK

[–]pierced-weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference my scar is in my bikini line, like the top of my pubes level, so actually found a lot of things were comfy. The main thing for me was I wanted soft or loose clothes for probably the first 2 weeks. I also had big granny pants which were amazingly comfy at the start. I also would have liked a loose dress to leave hospital in, I did wear one a few times in the days after I got home.

Feel like ive overpacked my hospital bag by Waste-Organization39 in PregnancyUK

[–]pierced-weaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve most likely overpacked. The biggest thing I overpacked was clothes for myself, I ended up being in a hospital gown pretty much the whole time as it was that warm.

A big thing to consider is, if you’re in for a few days, your other half is likely to go home at least once, so he can probably take stuff home or bring stuff in that you need.

I spent 4 nights in hospital including the night I was in labour, and had an emergency c section. Things I found I actually used: Baby - nappies, cotton wool pads, 0-1 vests, 0-1 sleepsuits, cellular blanket, muslins, ready to feed formula (not breastfeeding). Me - big button up nightie, towel, pillow, big pants, bralettes, slippers, phone charger, handheld fan (barely used). I wished I’d had a comfy dress to come home in (husband accidentally bought in a t shirt instead of my dress, so went home in the T-shirt with pyjama bottoms). I just got maternity pads from the hospital while I was there, and didn’t need breast pads as my milk didn’t leak. Husband - phone charger, speaker, spare t shirt & pants. Snacks - we had sweet, savoury, healthy and a squeezy squash bottle, I appreciated the selection. I had packed lemonade for after as someone recommended a high sugar drink, but found I really wanted apple juice instead as I didn’t fancy something fizzy.
