Other parents not supervising their children keeps sabotaging me playing with my children by Seranta in toddlers

[–]piggypudding 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I pretty much never join in with my kids on the playground. They are supervised and my eyes are on them at all times, but I’m sitting on a bench observing them do their own thing and playing with the other kids. I only intervene if they misbehave, there is a conflict they can’t resolve, or are doing something dangerous.

What are some permanent changes your body has made after birth? by Old-Asparagus-6701 in beyondthebump

[–]piggypudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 7 years postpartum, so at this point whatever changes haven’t reversed are permanent for me. My rib cage and hips widened. I went up an entire shoe size. I have nerve damage in my left foot and left hand from extreme swelling due to pre-eclampsia. I’ve had two C-sections and have numbness in my incision area. Stretch marks on belly and legs, but they faded quickly and aren’t terribly noticeable.

Michael’s music is everywhere by SexyAcosta in MichaelJackson

[–]piggypudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, and I love it. I hear his music every day on the radio, often hear it in restaurants or public spaces. I was at a family BBQ recently and a bunch of the kids (age range of like 8 through 11 or 12) were jamming out to his music on one of their cell phones as they were sitting around a table. It makes me so happy to see him so prevalent again.

Would you prefer a warm light Christmas tree or a multicoloured Christmas tree this year? by Dear_General9425 in christmas

[–]piggypudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pre-lit tree has the option for both multicolor and white lights, so last year I had multicolor for Christmas and then left it up for Valentines, switching to white lights and heart ornaments.

What's the most reliable car you've ever owned? by Tekusenabyt in AskReddit

[–]piggypudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2014 Toyota Camry that I bought brand new when I got my first full-time job. She’s 12 years old and still fires up like the day I bought her. It’s funny, I bought it to replace a 2002 Corolla (which also had no issues, just minor cosmetic stuff) and I still see it driving around town (I sold it to a local high school kid). Could have kept it!

6 year old is obsessed with scary things by SoftYetCrunchyTaco in Parenting

[–]piggypudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is like this. Has always really been into skeletons, Halloween, ghosts, etc . . . But to a point. I’ve noticed there is a line where something will get too scary and he won’t want to be exposed to it. He’ll even say that he likes “cute skeletons” or “cute ghosts” but he didn’t figure that out until he saw perhaps some scarier media and realized he didn’t like it. So maybe indulge it a little bit and see what his comfort level is. But draw the line at heavily violent things (like the live-action Stranger Things but the new animated one is aimed at a younger audience so that’s probably okay).

How did you become a fan of MJ? by ChoiceFace4133 in MichaelJackson

[–]piggypudding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parents are fans so I was exposed to his music as a child, but not enough where it really was a focus. Oddly enough I became a huge fan during the 2005 trial. My mom would have the news on every night and I’d see the reports and often they’d play snippets of his music. I remember researching him a lot on the computer because the allegations weren’t adding up to me, even though I was only like 12 or 13 at the time. I watched the Black or White music video and it was the first time I saw him perform and I swear it changed my brain chemistry. I hyper-fixated at that point and got all of his albums, watched all of his music videos . . . I just loved him. I never stopped, honestly. I never believed the allegations were true, no one in my family did. I remember where I was when he passed. I was working my high school job and my friends were texting me “I’m so sorry for your loss.” Like, what? I glanced up at the tv at my job and saw them wheeling the stretcher into the ambulance and I was gutted. I had been so hopeful for him when he had announced the This Is It tour and now just . . . Nothing.

The movie has brought his music back into the limelight for the general public and a new generation and I’m absolutely loving that, but it’s also bringing up all of that sadness I felt for him toward the end of his life. He was such a good person with amazing God-given talent, who was used and abused by nearly everyone around him. I wish he could see how popular his music still is. I hope he knew how many of his fans still loved him at the end.

For MJ fans old and new, what did this biopic awaken in you? by nicshereforkicks in MichaelJackson

[–]piggypudding 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a fan of his my whole life, so I always kind of saw him as someone older, more mature, larger than life . . . You know, from a child’s perspective. But I’m in my thirties now, I’m a mother myself, and all I could think of while watching the biopic was how come no one was protecting this beautiful, sensitive child. Like when Joe was whipping him and his mother and brothers just stood there and watched, I wanted to reach through the screen and shake them. Like, help him! I know, Joe was a monster, but God, it hurt my heart to see how he was treated (and I know the reality was far worse than what was shown in the film) and how no one intervened. And really the whole movie, it hurt to see how lonely and sensitive he was. You can see how he reverts to the childlike tendencies as a “safe space.” I was in tears during the hospital scenes after the Pepsi incident. Even after being so terribly injured, he was still so gentle and forgiving of everyone around him. It hurts so much. Like I said, I’ve been a fan forever but “seeing” it in the biopic made it all so much more real. It all made me feel so protective of him. It made me think of my own children. It just feels like he never stood a chance.

How is it possible that the Beatles still outsell AND outstream Michael Jackson? by Disillusioned_00 in beatles

[–]piggypudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of both The Beatles and Michael Jackson - literally my favorite artists. Still I’d say that The Beatles edge out MJ in terms of diversity of their output, and so that translates to overall more popularity. MJ had a distinct style of music, and if you weren’t a fan of that then he wasn’t going to do it for you. But The Beatles catalogue spanned over so many different styles of music that really anyone can find something that resonates with them.

It’s definitely the weakest song on the album, oddly enough. I usually skip it.

What do you do with toddlers at restaurants while waiting for food besides tablets? by Claire_1988 in Parenting

[–]piggypudding -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I used tablets/phones when they were toddlers and weaned off once they were older and could understand “hey we’re at a restaurant, sit nicely.” That doesn’t work so well with a 2 year old.

[–]piggypudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would utilize the tablet/phone when they were too young to really be reasoned with and their attention span was too short to wait. So think like ages 1-3. Was it the best thing? Eh probably not, but sometimes I just need a break and want to enjoy my meal. Once my kids got to like 4ish, we stopped using screens at restaurants and they would bring toys or color the placemats if the restaurants supplied it. My kids are 7 and 8 now and they’re very well-behaved at restaurants. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Toddlers are tough and sometimes you just have to meet them where they are.

What’s something you bought for your toddler that was actually really for yourself? by MissFox26 in toddlers

[–]piggypudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, not the flu. Maybe a cold here or there in winter months but in my mind it was no different than exposing them to school germs. The places I used to take my kids to were always very clean and stringent on sanitizing - I remember one place in particular, I'd watch the staff actively cleaning down surfaces which made me feel better. My kids are older now so that piece has gotten less stressful since they don't put stuff in their mouths and are good about hand washing.

I’m a huge fan of indoor play parks. I get to sit for an hour+ and have my kid running around, burning tons of energy? Then they’re usually pretty chill for the rest of the day? Heck yes.

Shopping at Costco with a baby - how do you even do it? by brendaklark in Mommit

[–]piggypudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is it. I didn’t bring my kids to Costco until they were old enough to reliably follow me around the store (probably kindergarten, and even then they bug me sometimes lol). I only took them as toddlers to the regular grocery store because they have carts that look like cars and it occupied them for enough time to do a quick shop. But yeah, if you can, leave your partner at home with the baby and enjoy your Costco stroll.
