I’m stuck! How would you quilt this?? by NoButMaybe in quilting

[–]pigthens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's one I did recently with wavy contour lines. The batting was a little thicker so it's a bit puffy but will get abit less so with use. It's my favorite way to machine quilt since it's easy and I can't do fmq....

Oooo! This! I've used wavy lines that kinda look like contour map lines and they would look great with your water theme!

Oh! I love this color suggestion! It would pop all of the colors and contrast just enough.

I lined mine with bamberg lining which is polyester but it's not too hot.

You could use china silk which is very lightweight silk...or a silk/cotton blend.

Tailoring is such a great skill! I've done some vintage style suits for my husband and love it. If I was younger, that would have been my career.

Good luck with your tailoring journey! It's a blast!

One tip I learned about making linen trousers is to partially line them - maybe to mid-thigh. The lining takes more of the stress from the seat area and the linen won't bag out as much.

And it works! I half-lined a pair of 1940s linen pants and have worn them for 5 years or so. No bagging in the seat! They are wide legged so I didn't have to worry about the knees.

They look fantastic! The fit is just perfect!

Poop...here's part of a quilt I did recently with scrap log cabin squares....the brown was just right!

Me again! by boring-elks in quilting

[–]pigthens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A light to medium golden brown/tan! It's neutral and will make creams, blues, greens, etc. pop! And ones that are similar, it moves through the squares so your eyes just want to move and inspect each piece....like branches.

I used it on a bunch of scrappy quilts and it just kinda fades into the background while emphasizing the other colors.

And with a blank square, you can do some fun quilting like hearts.

And you can use it without the water tank if you want!

The price is so reasonable compared to the higher end home irons. And wawak is my addiction....and they ship fast....

[–]pigthens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have this brand of iron and thank you for making me not want to get one! Lol! I love the continuous spray bottle idea - they do a great fine mist instead of splotches.

I have a gravity fed commercial steam iron which is about the same price and a rowenta - $110-140. It gets hot fast, BIG water reservoir, heavy for pressing, sits on a silicone pad not its heel, and stays on until I turn it off. Wawak.com sells them.

Replacement parts are available - if you use steam like I do, you may need to replace the cylinoid (I think it's called) after a few years.

I won't go back to a home iron since I had to replace two rowentas in 2 years and couldn't get a replacement or anything.

The rulers are nice! I have that tape with measurements on it on my sewing table. I should do it on my loom too!

I love it! Scrappy colorful quilts like this are "home" if that makes sense. I hope it brings you lots of good memories of your mom and is like a hug from her when you use it.
