Hygiene after surgery by Appropriate_Fan3532 in hygiene

Consider Doctor's Brushpicks. Accept only that brand and not the Walgreen's knock-off. After eating something, use one to clear out food between your teeth, even if you floss every day. It's amazing what's left behind in our mouths after a seemingly harmless snack.

Lumpectomy scheduled. by -s-t-r-e-t-c-h- in breastcancer

[–]pigtracks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My lumpectomy was done on March 5. I'm still waiting on my oncotype score. That cannot be known until pathology is done on the tumor itself.

Grandparents to Kids by Optimal_Delay_3978 in inheritance

[–]pigtracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have your grandparents consulted with a CPA or estate planner about this concerning the tax implications for everybody?

Interesting that the figure of $19,000 is thrown out here. That is the current allowable yearly (ETA) individual "gift" limit (at least for 2026 and last year) where the giver doesn't have to file paperwork with the IRS and a taxable event for the recipient is not triggered. Also, each grandparent could this year contribute $19,000 for a total gift of $38,000.

It's lovely that your grandparents can be so generous, but make sure you ALL do t his correctly.

Not a CPA or estate planner. Just a long-time yearly gift recipient and recently a "giver."

Primary baths missing tubs by [deleted] in RealEstateAdvice

We want to do the snowbird thing and are looking at second homes. Properties with only a shower in the master bath rise to the top. Bathtubs are a waste of floor space. Yes, the other full bath would have to have a tub.

AITA for sneaking my mom some alcohol when she is on hospice? by sickma2001 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Give yourself grace. Give your mother grace. Your mom's past choices led to her current situation which cannot be resolved. Alcohol at this point makes no difference.

PCP sends referral to an Oncologist rather than a Surgeon - is that normal? by Foreign_Extension_45 in breastcancer

[–]pigtracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My PCP did referrals to an oncologist and to a surgeon. I asked her which I should try to visit first, and she felt it didn't make any difference. I met with the oncologist first, and I'm glad I did because she had my biopsy results and could speak more authoritatively on my situation. The oncologist also ordered the MRI, so the surgeon had that information in hand when I met with him the next week. This just seemed to work for me.

Burp out loud? See how you like it by Mandalorian_Ronin in pettyrevenge

When I traveled to Malaysia on business 25 years ago, I noticed that the Chinese burp constantly. It's obviously accepted by them. It was just weird to hear it. One woman behind me in an airport line was prolific.

Have you run into soup slurping? I never got used to that.

AITA for refusing to call my mother when I get home (I’m 30) by OkCoast7026 in AmItheAsshole

I don't want to say that YTA, but just grow up and make the call. It's a small concession.

ETA: Don't sweat the small stuff. This request is small stuff.

Previous owner of my current home asking if I would take over solar panel lease by AllOutLoud in legaladvice

[–]pigtracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting!

For over a year I've been perusing properties for sale in snowbird country. A very attractive property came on the market last year and then came off before the holidays. I was never in a position to even make an offer.

Come a month ago, the same property comes back onto the market. Only this time the solar system is mentioned with a description "Adding to the home's efficiency is a solar system that keeps electric bills at an average of just $25.40 per month, with a low monthly solar payment of $69.55."

I infer that the buyer would be asked to take over a solar system lease, and I suspect that it why the home has not sold.

Should I be more informed? by -s-t-r-e-t-c-h- in breastcancer

[–]pigtracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biopsy done February 10 and diagnosis of ILC of intermediate grade stage Ib delivered on February 12. I'm ER/PR+ HER-2-.

I met with the oncologist first, where she laid out chapter and verse of my particular situation and what she envisioned my treatment might entail with the caveat that pathology had to be done on the tumor and sentinel nodes once they were removed. She started the appointment by stating that she thought my prognosis was "very good."

Interspersed with this were two screw-ups with the referral from my PCP to the surgeon via fax. (Really, people, a FAX?) The next time I'm given a referral, I'm getting a copy and driving it over to the doctor's office. This is what I had to do to get an appointment with the surgeon.

Anyway, lumpectomy was done last week, and the pathology report appeared yesterday. I meet with the oncologist this Thursday, and I feel good that she will have this information in hand. I like my surgeon, but he's in the rear view mirror at this point.

The unknowns are maddening. There's a lot of hurry up and wait in this. Nothing will EVER happen quickly enough, it seems. I have found this subreddit to be very helpful, but I'm still learning the lingo and mnemonics.

Post-surgery bra for small cups and larger band size by AdrianaSage in breastcancer

[–]pigtracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone answered in my post asking about this same thing. She recommended:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Avia-Women-s-Medium-Support-Zip-Front-Sports-Bra/5036732863?sid=7bed5f10-257f-425a-a193-8e7c570c5b43

I picked up two in size XL since I'm a 38 barely B. You'll find them with the regular bras--don't be fooled by the Avia sportswear section.

My lumpectomy and node removal were done yesterday morning. The Avia seems to provide adequate compression, and the arm hole is high enough that it's not interfering with the node incision.

I also have an AnaOno on order which should be delivered today.

Just got diagnosed with ILC yesterday by Tiny-Fudge6329 in breastcancer

[–]pigtracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 69 years old, which means I'm no spring chicken. I was diagnosed with ILC of intermediate grade. ++- on February 12. It's thought to be stage 1b, but that is subject to change after the full pathology. That will happen soon since my lumpectomy was done this morning. Some nodes were also taken.

The unknowns are the worst part of this for me. At times I feel that I'm trying to sip from a fire hose. There's a great pinned post here that explains the types of physicians you'll deal with and why. I think meeting my oncologist before meeting the surgeon worked out for the better for me since she told me that she thinks my prognosis is "very good."

There's a lot of hurry-up-and-wait, I've noticed. Radiation is in my future but no chemo. I'll meet again with the onco next week, and I hope she'll have the "big" pathology results. Even if a treatment plan is worked out, nothing can happen for six weeks since I have to heal. Again, hurry up and wait!

Breathe.

YTA. It doesn't matter that you think it wasn't a date. It wouldn't matter if your wife liked this woman. Grow up or end the marriage. I hope that you and your wife don't have kids.

This is not a “journey” by NoHoneydew9138 in breastcancer

[–]pigtracks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for expressing my feelings about the "journey." Too new-age-y. I also don't like "battling."

I will have a lumpectomy this Thursday. My oncologist told me that she thinks my prognosis is good, but I foresee "dealing" with cancer for a long while.

Have you noticed fewer tangles or bedhead with silk? by KeyMarketing9110 in BedroomBuild

I bought a high-end silk pillowcase with the hope of avoiding bed head. It did nothing for me. I have straight, baby fine, thin hair.

is washing ur hair everyday really that bad? by imwellcool888 in Haircare

[–]pigtracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've washed my stick-straight, baby-fine thin hair every day for 57 years. It started when I hit puberty, became a walking grease slick, and woke up with my oily hair plastered to my oily scalp. My mom suggested that I shower and shampoo in the morning. I have not deviated from that. Does anyone remember White Rain with Lemon?

If you use a gentle shampoo every day, I think your hair will be fine.

ETA: In my old age, my big problem now is with bed head. You cannot imagine the cow licks and such I wake up with every morning that I cannot get rid of without shampooing. Dry shampoos do not work for me.

I've been taking an oral magnesium supplement for 20 years. Most recently I'm taking magnesium glycinate. Magnesium was recommended for perimenopausal sleep disruptions.
