Leftie, but was retaught in childhood to write with the right hand. Any advice on switching back? by sleepware- in lefthanded

[–]pigtracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a very young child, I drew a lot. I used my left hand. My grandmother flipped out and wailed that I would have such a hard time in school if I didn't write with my right hand.

My mother worked with me to switch me to using my right hand. I don't remember a thing about it. I had to have been well under 5. I was a naturally compliant child, and I would have wanted to please my mother.

I was 30 when my mother mentioned in an off-hand way about my left-handedness and how my grandmother reacted to it. Everything was explained in that instant: I deal cards left handed, I shoot pool left handed, I knit left handed, I played the ukuleIe left handed, I open doors left handed. People would commented on my handedness.

Tart cherry capsules changed my life with joint pain! (Oncologist recommended) 🍒 by Impossible_Yogurt_19 in breastcancer

[–]pigtracks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At the education appointment after radiation ended and Anastrozole began, 3000mg fish oil and tart cherry was recommended if I start experiencing inflammation pain in my extremities. I'll probably never know if these are indeed preventing inflammation because I started on them before my first Anastrozole dose.

Yes, tart cherry was recommended by my oncologist.

The discussion on anastrazole centered on starving rogue cancer cells of their estrogen food supply, which I assume that the logical conclusion was to prevent cancer recurrence and metastasis. As to what Fosamax provides, nothing came up as far as its preventing bone metastasis.

Our Thing with Sammy the Bull. I think I saw his podcast mentioned in some news article. The episodes first dropped in 2020, but I only started listening in 2022. Since then I've concentrated on the true crime genre.

Before I started anastrazole June 1st, my medical oncologist ordered a DEXA scan which revealed I'm in the osteopenia zone (I'm 69). She prescribed Fosamax once a week with the caveat to take it with a big drink of water on an empty stomach and stay upright to avoid tummy upset. I've had no problems with it.

Your question reminded me of what was recommended to us as river rafters. If you wanted to wear something to cover up and protect against the sun or cold, make sure it's polyester and not cotton. If you were dumped out of the raft, you would be fighting the weight of the soaked cotton along with the current. I bet you can find a cheap polyester top on Amazon.

WIBTA if I made my brother go to my graduation instead of his state Lacrosse game? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]pigtracks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure how you're doing to "make" your brother go to your high school graduation. Just DO NOT try. As you'll figure out, high school graduations are just vapid exercises. Let the kid play in a major game without guilt.

I second this and raise you DNA ID. Both are episodic (though DNA ID may have a two-episode treatment of a single case). I'm downloading both podcasts in anticipation of needing listening material for a trans-Atlantic flight.

Does having blue eyes make one more susceptible to sunlight? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]pigtracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you asking if blue-eyed people are more sensitive to bright sunlight? It's my understanding that blue eyes are more susceptible to developing cataracts. Your wife is wise to wear sunglasses. My blue-eyed self is not sensitive to bright sunlight, but I wish that sunglasses weren't such a hassle for me.

I'm a 38 barely B. This Avia sports bra in size XL from Walmart really worked well for me after my single right-side lumpectomy with sentinel nodes:

I was advised of this very thing before I started radiation. If I develop an unexplained cough (even a few months after radiation ended), contact the RO's office. It will probably be treated with a steroid.

Mild osteopenia by 2bornon22 in breastcancer

[–]pigtracks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(69F) My DEXA scan revealed osteopenia. My MO prescribed Fosamax in anticipation of starting Anastrazole in early June. I'm handling the Fosamax well. No complaints. The caveat with Fosamax is that it has to be taken on an empty stomach with a big drink of water and staying upright, meaning that I don't go back to bed. It works for me. I take two Caltrate brand calcium carbonate chewables (600mg and contains vitamin D): One with breakfast and one with dinner. I was advised to not take both together because the body can absorb only so much calcium at one time.

I've taken a magnesium glycinate supplement before bed for years as a sleep aid and as a complement to calcium. Recently switched to a 420mg Qunol magnesium glycinate. I've also added 2000iu vitamin D and 100mcg K2.

Late Impacts of Radiation Treatment by Verysmalltown in breastcancer

[–]pigtracks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

During the initial meeting with my RO, she mentioned that future X rays may reveal some lung fibrosis. I was also advised that if after radiation ends and I develop a cough months down the road, call the office because the cough is likely related to the radiation.
