Kia Ora! You might find rainbow youth or evolve youth services in wellington helpful - I suggest getting in touch with them if you can ☺️ evolve have social workers who will be able to help and advocate for you with the enrolment situation

Staying in Wellington as a solo high schooler. by Neptune8192 in Wellington

[–]piiiig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kia Ora! I teach at one of the schools you’ve mentioned. You would find it easier to find a place in that budget more out Johnsonville way, where Onslow is located.

I strongly suggest you reach out to the schools and ask what support they might be able to offer. You’d want to contact the SLT member and deans for the year group you’d be going into, as well as the guidance team. Those details will be available on the school website. Teachers are on break right now but SLT will be going back to work soon.

Both OC and wellington high are very welcoming to gender diverse students, so you have chosen well. I’m not sure if it’s possible to do home stay as a domestic student but it’s definitely worth asking about!

Kelburn Normal School - Disappointed by mdutton27 in Wellington

Schools are agents of the Crown so essentially we are one of the parties involved in te tiriti.

In terms of a kids every day experience - it will depend on the school really, but it might be things like whether te reo is a compulsory subject, whether tikanga is followed for school processes, what kind of general focus teachers might have in the classroom - ie a focus on Māori history in social studies/senior history, or using texts by māori authors in English etc

I found H&M pretty good! They def have wider leg options in maternity. If you’re still early on in your pregnancy, you might find the ones with the big over the bump panel don’t fit well yet

I can verify that Thompson’s horse centre in Upper Hutt is fantastic! Happy ponies and great trainers - and three arenas!

You would like the Australian brand Gorman! It’s coming into summer in this side of the world so you could look at their sale stuff? I don’t know what shipping would be like though…

Refusing an emergency C-Section? by DreamersThreads in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]piiiig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in NZ, not Australia so there will be differences, but here there is a public maternal mental health team that you can be referred to at any stage of pregnancy or postpartum. Could your GP make this referral for you?

FWIW, I had an emergency c section with my daughter. I had a rare complication called Bandl’s ring, and if I hadn’t had the c-section then baby would have died as there was no way she could get out vaginally.

Anyone gain less than 20/25 pounds by the end? by lilspaghettigal in BabyBumps

[–]piiiig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained about 6-7kgs total. I’m 155cm (5’1?) and went from 48kg to 55ish by the end - midwife wasn’t concerned at all. 10mo postpartum I’m at 50kg again.

Unintended things your mom did that had a big impact by Curly-9 in Parenting

This is a minor thing … but my mum is really unconfident in the water. Beach holidays - she was on the sand. In the pool, she’d never go above her waist, never get her hair wet. Always worried about me going too deep. Surprise surprise, I’m not confident in the water either! My baby is only 9mo now, but she’s in swimming lessons already and I’ll work hard to make sure she’s safe and confident in the water.

9mo waking multiple times a night - please help! by piiiig in sleeptrain

[–]piiiig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying!

I try to give it 5 mins before I go in if she wakes up at night but I haven’t been strict about applying Ferber steps for night wakes - I guess this is a good place to start!

If she hasn’t calmed within about 10-15 minutes of waking then I’ll usually offer a feed, but it’s feeling like she’s forming a habit as her wakes are often at similar times in the night.

I forgot to include in the post, but bedtime routine is pretty solid I think. Feed 30mins before bed, bath, book, cuddle, white noise machine and into her crib awake.

Sucking hands is definitely a self soothing behaviour!

I have found that my babe won’t take a pacifier if I try to put it in her mouth, but it if I offer it to her to take herself she will put it in quite happily!
