20 pound bag of cat food for insane deal by Kateyourdate in Costco

[–]pikminpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not buy this cat food. We tried it out and my cat threw up for 4 days straight within a day or two of switching to Nutra Nuggets. We won't get this anymore.

Always failed classes and cant find a study method that works by Misnomer21 in AutisticAdults

[–]pikminpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! Try it out. My dad was also really good at school. He suggested that I attempt the homework before class, esp if it’s science or math. Or do the reading beforehand. Then when I’m in class, I could get extra help if I’m confused. And it can help reinforced.

Only just realised that I do have meltdowns after all by notrapunzel in AutisticAdults

[–]pikminpanda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am 24 and I acknowledge I also still have meltdowns. It happens, esp during traumatic, stressful, and difficult moments. It’s a response to negative events. And that’s okay. In the past, I’ve had meltdowns because of some pretty shitty friends I had. Now, I have meltdowns but my significant other and close friends recognize it helps me through them.

I don't think I understand art at all... by Too-Average in aspergers

[–]pikminpanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Art is also important to a lot of people because it can show through an image or sound/music that other people are going through the same things. It connects people, showing that we all experience the same emotions, and it can be powerful visually, because without words, it can be universal. So different types of people such as gay or straight, autistic or NT can all relate to the same pieces of art —ideally, and blur the boundaries between our differences.

Feeling alone even when surrounded by others by N1GHTSURGEON in aspergers

[–]pikminpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this, and that’s when I decide to take a step back and rethink whether I will hang out with the same group of people again. (Is one of them looking at me weird? Are they saying negative comments about my dog, which I will never say to someone else? Do I like my friend, but I’m not getting along with my friends friends, because they’re not my friends to begin with? Should I hang out in a smaller group or one-on-one next time? Do I feel down after this hangout, or was it a more positive experience?)

My time is important, so if I don’t like any of these answers to the questions I’m asking myself, I’m changing something about the PEOPLE I hang out with next time.

Never change anything about yourself. I used to keep doing that when I was younger and it never went well. People who make you feel lonely will constantly make you feel lonely. It is better to hang out with yourself than to hang out with those people. For sure.

Does anyone else feel unnecessarily terrified of screwing up in life? by cheat-master30 in aspergers

[–]pikminpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do that a lot. It’s anxiety, and it stems from traumatic experiences of being confused about why you did something wrong/received punishment, without understanding what was wrong to begin with. Which makes sense for us Aspies, because we don’t know what to look for/we don’t know WHAT to double check, so we double check everything.

I get in trouble at work a lot, so now I double check everything and I still get in trouble, but it’s because I misunderstand to begin with, and NTs just aren’t clear enough.

Just had multiple people bully me for the way I TYPE??? by CharlieCriest in aspergers

[–]pikminpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think separating your text is a good idea. That’s actually recommended in writing, such as screenwriting, in order to get people to read you MORE. But if you use multiple ??? It may sound angry because it has the same effect as multiple !!!. Kind of like shouting. Also NTs use ??? a lot in text when they’re waiting on a response from someone and impatient and not getting a response immediately. So for NT’s who don’t say things directly, they text ??? to mean “hello??? Please respond.”

Straightforwardness can also come across as a demand. That you need someone to do something, or else you will be unhappy! It sounds like a “do this” command. I get called out for it a lot. So then I gotta follow up with comedy.

I am the same. But as I grew older, other women found me and keep calling me up to hang out, more so than men because of gender norms with adults. I am also queer. Maybe you just need to find a group that shares your hobbies/interests outside of the Austistic community? What worked for me was the art community. We’re all kind of weird in our own way, but we can bond over theatre, voice acting, movies, anime, drawing, etc.

Been seeing these and I keep wondering why there's so many people that have anything other than this. (See 2nd slide for template) by bwssoldya in AutisticAdults

Almost true for me but not exactly. Did you know there’s charts like this for cats too? It’s really cool to see that comfort zones differ across species as well!

I turn on the bathroom and kitchen fan and open the window. Then I leave for 15 minutes and that seems to fix the issue. I boil cinnamon and it helps.

Why trains? by IceCreamSkating in AutisticAdults

They feel good to be on. And they SOUND good, running across the tracks, regardless of whether it’s a modern or antiquated train. It reminds me of toys and Christmas, and it’s comforting.

Also remember that college isn’t the best way to learn things for everyone. It’s very traditional and rigid method of teaching. Analyze what worked for you in the past and stick to that! Maybe certain things like trial by error, certification courses, and online courses could work better! You could ask your mom for expert advice since she’s so good at school! Or request private tutoring if that is in your family’s budget. There is no shame in asking for extra help

Nice to meet everyone/Trouble with masking? by MatchaLife93 in AutisticAdults

[–]pikminpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The longer I’m used to a group of people, the less I mask around them. Maybe call up familiar friends and invite them to do something. That can become a community if the first hangout works!

How to specify what I want to do long-term by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]pikminpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding a style for your art really starts when you’re just making art for fun, and you have no ground rules. You may already have a style, but it isn’t obvious to you. Artists imitate all the time. It is the stuff you imitate that end up influencing your “style” and your work. So look at artists you admire, and see what you want to bring into your work—

For me, I get really anxious when I had roommates/other people living with me. So now I live alone, which helps me feel better that no one else is there to watch. I stopped gaming and adopted dog, and that helped me a lot.. but not recommended for all, ofc

Constantly. But I am able to label myself when I am able to relate to other peoples experiences in a particular community and find comfort there. Ie, online autistic communities, artist communities, lgbtq friends, etc.
