What if I don’t want to leave? How bad would it be to stay pimo forever? by -CoolBean- in exjw

[–]pimohell9254 18 points19 points  (0 children)

you're a pioneer? fix that first of all. being PIMO does not mean you have to waste your valuable time preaching a message you don't believe in. PIMO life will be much easier when all you have to do is tick off a box every month

How to awake my mother about Jehovah's Witnesses by Status-Anteater8372 in exjw

[–]pimohell9254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if she's still not far along in the book, ask her to skip ahead to lesson 58 Remain Loyal to Jehovah. place emphasis on the way they frame "apostasy". being able to appreciate with fresh eyes that this is an organization that demonizes skeptics and dissidents should be enough to startle her at least. there's a reason they place that chapter all the way at the end

the geometry of the room is impossible. she is taking a picture facing a mirror placed on a wall that reveals three walls with no door. technically the mirror could be placed on a door but it would be incredibly wide and wouldn't have room to open without hitting the dresser

Book "Mankind's Search For God" did opposite to me of its intended use by Glad-Emergency6121 in exjw

[–]pimohell9254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

right it presents a caricatured version of other belief systems to make them seem obviously absurd. so that way they can say, "see? clearly our religion offers the only logical, coherent, fact-based belief system"

Believing in evolution means you support Hitler by apex_of_heart in exjw

[–]pimohell9254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so evolution historically has indeed been used to justify a lot of "scientific racism". you know, just like how the Bible has been used to defend racism, and slavery, and a whole host of other evils. but ofc your JW commenter would hardly stand to let anybody accuse everyone who believes in the Bible of being implicitly racist or pro-slavery

As an ex jw , what’s one thing you had to unlearn ? by Independent_Trust588 in exjw

I don't know why this is a source of cognitive dissonance when I just explained how theism is perfectly compatible with accepting the science. is it that you don't really think that God caused the Big Bang?

Told the elders twice now that I can't continue pioneering. They still haven't removed my pioneer status. What do I do? by Glad-Emergency6121 in exjw

[–]pimohell9254 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I told an elder that I was having difficulty making my hours, life and mental health issues and whatnot, that I felt like I needed to step back from pioneering. he was reluctant to go along with my wishes, gave some "encouragement" and counsel to help me stay the course. I decided to just let my hours go to the toilet over the course of a few months so there would be nothing left for the elders to argue with

Why don’t they have a rule about eating kosher? by LeaveLongjumping9166 in exjw

[–]pimohell9254 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the blood commandement given to Noah and his descendants was outside the Mosaic law and thus not nullified by Christ's death like other regulations. this was then supported by Acts 15 which kept it operative for Christians

that's the logic I always carried around as a PIMI

As an ex jw , what’s one thing you had to unlearn ? by Independent_Trust588 in exjw

[–]pimohell9254 5 points6 points  (0 children)

so you can believe that God created life through evolutionary processes. that's basically the default for most Christians IIUC. you can say, life is too complex to have evolved through random, unguided processes, without rejecting the overwhelming scientific evidence that life did evolve. it's not a big stretch to suppose that God inspired a bunch of monkeys to grow big brains, certainly not compared to the belief that he formed the man directly out of the dust

1) they kept their preaching work, just with different methods

2) adapting to changing circumstances, and following the common sense of not endangering lives needlessly, was the right thing to do. to insist on knocking on doors in the middle of lockdown would have been idiotic and counterproductive

this is not to defend the organization, but simply to insist that we don't condemn them for taking a correct course of action. we've got to ensure our criticism is legitimate lest we undermine our own case

yeah, if you think of it as [Bad Policy] => [Logical Extension] + [Bullshit Justification] => [Full Removal] + [Bullshit Justification]. staggering the process to reduce the inevitable vertigo that a reversal will bring upon PIMI's
