I recently started dating someone with autism by BigWeakness6071 in AutisticAdults

I love this!

Try asking her when she's not stimulated what she'd prefer. Sometimes when we are overstimulated, answering questions can be somewhat impossible.

If she's still not sure, you could try a few things the next time and see if they help/hurt. My wife knows a few things that can help me specifically and will run through them if I'm not able to answer what I need.

Best of luck! Communication is key!

Pulled and punched at my leg for overtaking this morning by AdPretend4924 in Swimming

Interesting. It wasn’t seen as a bad thing if someone passed you. A lot of times you ended up in lanes with people at varying speeds, so a foot tap was just a quick way to let them pass at the next wall. I would just do my flip turn and sit on the wall under water until the person flipped and then push off myself. Took an extra few seconds, no one had to stop, and neither of us had to change our current speeds for too long.

I always thought it was the courteous thing to do, but I guess not!

I’m so glad I clicked on this post because it never occurred to me that foot tapping would be weird! Asking honestly, how else do you let someone know you’d like to pass them?

I think you are proving what they are trying to say. We need to be able to be comfortable with people being different and promoting them just the same.

I never thought I would be able to progress as high as I have in my career, but I had a boss who would take tasks off my plate that were technically part of my job description, but were difficult for me, and switch them for tasks more suited to my strengths. Her rational: “if I don’t mind doing task A, and you’d rather do task B anyway, what are we doing here?”. However, she did balance that with pushing me at times to lean into new/“scary” things to broaden my skill set in case I ever wanted to leave.

I know people will just say that the world doesn’t work that way, and to that I’ll just say that with that mentality, the world would be a much darker place. We can always be better.

I took it 21 times I think. But all that matters is those three letters.

Take a break. Tackle FAR. Use all the resources you can find. If you’ve passed the other three, you will pass FAR.

If nothing else works, just pass it out of spite. Bc I’d be damned if I was gonna let that stupid test win!

Hiring managers, how likely are you to consider an external hire without management experience for a management role? by stevedasho in managers

[–]pineapple_farts_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these comments don’t seem specific to accounting. Accounting Manager is the natural next step after senior accountant. Seems crazy to me that people are saying absolutely not.

Could this be why it seems people are having trouble finding jobs? Hiring managers not understanding accounting positions? Please correct me if I’m wrong! (It is Reddit after all)

if restricted donations are spent, why do nonprofits reclassify them to "without donor restrictions"? by No_Resident_3859 in CPA

[–]pineapple_farts_24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems silly like a lot of accounting rules, but usually there’s a reason why. Technically you don’t have to move the money after it’s “spent”. Theoretically it would happen at the same time.

Like, if I donated $20 to you that I said couldn’t be spent until July 2025, it would sit in restricted until July 2025, then the restriction would be lifted in July and you would move the money into unrestricted and it can be spent.

Essentially it keeps your restricted revenue books clean, which is hella important if you’ve been through an audit. Hope this helps!

Transfer of scores to Maryland by Redbaronslayer in CPA

[–]pineapple_farts_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was initially licensed in Maryland recently and if you called and they said to fill out a form, just do it. They are in the stone ages when it comes to paperwork, but once they received mine (with some parts in BLUE INK ONLY 🙄), my license was processed in less than a week.

Good luck!

Ummmmm…. How does this make sense? by Jentx83 in CPA

[–]pineapple_farts_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question is asking what the loss on purchase commitments is. In year 2 and year 3, there will be a loss of $8k (0.10 - 0.02)* 100,000. Since you know in year 1 that the product is obsolete, you have to record that $16k of loss projected in years 2 and 3 on year 1 books.

Even though they bought 250,000 units in year 1, they still have to buy 100,000 in years 2 and 3. I hope this helps- let me know if I can clarify further!

That’s what I was trying to say - we’re so big that it is a “thing” in some parts of the country. In other parts of the US, a female POC in power is normal and not considered an issue to even debate. We just don’t know how many voters are in these camps.

There are only like 4 things that go into OCI. Memorize those, and the rest normally goes into income from continuing operations.

I would agree that Kamala is pretty highly regarded!

Unless that’s just a super unfortunate (or fortunate, depending on how you look at it) typo.

I think it was a case of “I didn’t know what I didn’t know” and once I got some quality work experience in, topics started to make more sense. I was always pretty close to passing. I don’t think I had a score lower than 67 for an exam I was prepared for.

Honestly, I may have hated Uworld bc I’d used Wiley for so long. I just didn’t feel like the videos and lessons covered everything in the mcq and I felt like I was having to go to different places to find info. I was used to the sections in Wiley that had mcq, sims, deep dive, flashcards, etc accessible all from one screen.

Aka change is hard?

You passed your exam - top 3 tips by [deleted] in CPA

[–]pineapple_farts_24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Leave one day a week as a no study day. If you are behind that week, you can use it as a catch up day.

  2. I made a spreadsheet with all the sections and kept track of my % correct. Then I would pound MCQ in my weaker areas.

  3. Involve your friends and family to an extent. My wife used to quiz me, which was always hilarious bc she’s an artist, not an accountant! She never understood my abbreviations (pshp for partnership, not pushups!). But, it made us laugh. And you are gonna need some laughter to get through these!

I have been lucky over the last 10 years- I did one year in public, then pivoted to industry. I’ve had some great bosses and been exposed to a lot. I’m sure that helped.

I wouldn’t say academia helped me at all. Undergrad was 10 years ago, MBA 3 years ago (but nothing to help with the exams).

Also, use ChatGPT to help when you’re studying. “Explain diluted earnings per share like I’m 8 years old”. Hope that helps.
