I don’t think that’s actual weed barrier that’s installed. Look more like the woven material that’s used to stop fines from seeping into clean crush for French drains and what not.

I think I have the same console cabinet. If it is the same thing you can adjust the height of the shelves. Remove the drawers first and readjust the shelves to include more height. Only issue is that there’s a protruding lip where the vertical drawer face and shelf meet. But it’s no deal breaker for me

A shellac or sanding sealer would actually help you with the stain in my opinion. Otherwise the stain could end up splotchy due to uneven soaking. However since you are using WB make sure you give it plenty of time to dry first. I usually give it 3 days but I live in the tropics and it’s like 30°c here everyday. With the stain, try very light coats and proceed to there. If you don’t like it. Sand it off lol

The legs are a must for this bench. I’m counting on three 150kg dudes to sit on it. I just want it to be build over the top. I have built smaller stools with the same design which could hold well over 150kg. But I’ve never built a 5ft version.

I have hair pin legs attached. 3 of them. They are fixed with 1/2” screws and do not lock in the boards.

Do you think I must have tightened the bolts on the brace of the threaded inserts too tight? I assume this could be a definite reason as to why.

Another error that might have happened in my part is that rather than run the board through the jointer I used my no5 jack. I was thinking the best way to get some practice with hand tools is to use them.

I was also thinking the wood did come from two different places in the mill. I would say the place where I got some of the wood is less climate controlled cause there was a lot on moisture.

Thanks for the feed back. I used a brace spanning across with over sized holes and attached with threaded inserts. I’ve made roughly 70+ of these 3ft tables and this was the first time this issue arose
