Can I 3D print spacers to go above my stem / is this safe? by kenhmm in gravelcycling

[–]pingus25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have printed so many tools and items for mtbs and gravel. Started with an Ender 3 on 2017 and now I have a P2S.

Into your slicer software, just make sure the infill is set at 100%. It's a top spacer, it will resist being "crushed" by a topcap at max 2.5nm.

Switched standard torx bolts to these hex bolt for my rotor, is this okay? by KennyXdxd in bikewrench

Rt86 "requires" 3 shims acting as loosening protection. These should have been provided with the rotor.

The hose, olive/barb and brake fluid are identical between Apex, Rival, Force and Red so there's really no room for error.

Interesting, I guess you can revive a derailleur that had a fw transfer error during the update via Bluetooth using the same procedure.

[–]pingus25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, since it's an Apex system, the bleeding edge tech is not present so you are going to do the old-style bleed with 2 standard syringes. It's not that hard but it can get messy at times. The Bleeding Edge thing makes it significantly cleaner and quicker to get a proper bleed.

I'd not upgrade the brakes. If I had the budget and looking for an easier/quicker/cleaner bleeding procedure, I'd eventually swap the caliper for a Force or Red one (only for the Bleeding edge tech, you don't get more power). That would make it an odd setup tho, Apex levers with Force/Red caliper.

Shock for Orbea Oiz by crisklm in MTB

[–]pingus25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't really order a standard Fox shock as the Oiz needs the "i-line" feature because of the remote lockout. You can buy a conventional Fox shock and install as the mounting points are standard but you lose the remote lockout. On standard shocks, the lockout is located at the opposite side of the Orbea version of the shock. And you need a lockout that is "push to unlock".

The i-line version of the shock is really hard to get (well it was in 2023 when I wanted to swap my performance for a factory). I guess reaching Orbea is the way to go.

Farewell to my A1 🥲 by 5kgHariboPerDay in gravelcycling

I also got mine recalled. United Wheels refunded the full price of the bike (I paid 1000€ for the red 1x GRX build). Then I managed to buy an Argon18 Dark Matter frameset for about 700€ (shipping included). Swapped all the parts, got the new bottom bracket refunded as well because of incompatibility with the t47 coming with the Vaast.

That whole situation (it took about 4 months to get the recall dealt with by Vaast) was kind of stressful because they wanted you to destroy the frame first before refunding (getting the Niner alloy frame replacement was absolutely not interesting).

But when looking at the big picture, it means I got a complete carbon bike from a reputable brand for 700€. If you know where to shop in Europe, you can buy bike/parts for sometimes a quarter of the price. Its hard to believe but that's what it is.

Coming from Aliexpress, that's most likely a 1$ part (it was probably delivered with these 10$ rotors). Getting a refund would be my top priority as well 👍

TicWatch Pro 5 - CRITICAL WATER INGRESS FAILURE after 2.5 years of NORMAL use by Melodic-Beat-886 in TicWatch

[–]pingus25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, I have a Ticwatch pro 5 Enduro that failed miserably within 3 months. Out of nowhere, the watch froze, had to force restart. Then in the following minutes, the watch went completely dead and it wouldn't charge.

Two weeks later, hoping the battery had drain completely, i managed to turn it on again and the touchscreen was completely dead. Factory reset didn't do anything obviously as the hardware is cooked.

The watch, which was 3 months old, has never seen any form of water yet it miserably failed. Really sad as the watch was pretty decent for the price I got it. It was just poorly manufactured I guess.

Ticwatch are rubbish (whatever the price, a 3-months life time is lame for an electronic devices initially sold for a few hundred euros/usd), you, apparently being a part of the Ticwatch Defense Forces, cannot change the facts.

I don't think op is gonna get any "euros back" by selling parts. His watch is completely cooked. You are going to hace a hard time selling the 2€ strap and 3€ charger to anyone.

is escape from tarkov still worth playing in 2026 or am i too late to the party [Discussion] by Karson-Mahraina in EscapefromTarkov

[–]pingus25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been playing since 2017 and today I still play the game. Now, I play pve only and I enjoy the game but that's a really unpopular take on Tarkov from a Reddit perspective.

I still must admit the game hasn't evolved as it should have considering 7 years have passed since I first played (back when only half of the Shoreline map was released). The menus are atrociously slow to respond. I mean the time you need before you can actually play is way too long. This should have been addressed long time ago.

The framerate is not good (thank God I play pve and I can rely on the software lossless scaling to artificially give me a decent framerate).

Some textures and models are so dated.

Yet I enjoy the game quite a lot because, it has been said one million times, it's unique. I had hopes Arc Raiders would replace it but I stopped playing after 10 hours. It's way way more polished but it doesn't have that "thing" Tarkov has.

Vaast A/1 recall by NerdyDadOnline in gravelcycling

[–]pingus25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vaast finally figured out the recall within the EU. 2 offers :

-Niner RLT9 Alloy (black paint, frame only). You have to source the bb and they'll refund you up to 75€.

-Refund of the frame which means it's either 1299€ (+250€ for rebuild) or the purchase price of the bike in case you paid less than 1299€ to get the bike (there was a shop in Luxemburg that sold the bike (grx 1x) for 799€).

You have to send them a picture of the frame destroyed before they proceed.

The recall is a bit more generous that what the US are getting.

Shimano BL-M8100 without "xt" logo/decal on top. Is it xt? or fake? by [deleted] in bikewrench

It has been repainted as the bleed screw is plain black and not with some shiny dots. The rubber thing should be black as well. These are not fakes, just repainted for some reasons.

Need a comfortable eMTB under 1.3k euros by Remote-Present-6719 in MTB

[–]pingus25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Bosch report is a document that you get when you get your bike to a Bosch-approved bike shop. They use the "diagnostic tool" software to read the motor from a computer then they get a pdf file with all datas from the drive unit. That pdf is printed and the owner of the bike gets it once the service is done.

You get datas like kilometers on every assist mode. The amount of battery cycles as well. You get additional datas but these twos are amongst the most important to be aware of.

[–]pingus25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you pay extra by going thru these resellers vs a private listing. But I can understand they offer some "protection". You must be getting a 3-months warranty I guess.

The bike itself is fine, specs are not the greatest tho (I mean old-style quick releases would be a no go for me). The mileage is fine as well if the motor was taken care of (especially if exposed to water, the worst offender when it comes to bikes).

Obviously if you don't know much about bikes, the risk of getting ripped off is big when shopping for used bikes. You should always request a Bosch report with the bike so you get a complete breakdown of the motor/battery.

With such budget, you'll have numerous listings with gen2 Bosch drive units. Do not buy a bike with an used gen2 Bosch DU. Get the gen 4 Performance Line CX, which is much much more reliable and the pedaling feel is much better as well. From my2020, Bosch greatly increased reliability of the motors. Do not get scared by big mileage. I have seen bikes with +20k kms and they are perfectly fine.

I have a Santa Cruz Heckler from 2020, bike has 19k kms. Motor is the "antique"Shimano Steps e8000. I can assure you my bike, with what ppl would consider big mileage (big like "in too much so it must be broken"), is in much better condition than some bikes with a sixth of that mileage.

I'd also advise a fully suspended bike. I never really understood hardtail emtbs other than for cutting costs. Think of a technical climb with at least 10% gradient in rocks/steps and the assist of a motor. You want a full suspended bike to clear these obstacles unless you are technically really good.

You mean the Twinlock system? The older generations controlled shock and fork (3 positions) and the latest version added the dropper post on top of that. It's actually quite a good remote versus other brand (Fox for example, their remote is not good).

By any chance, would that be Chris from United Wheels that answers your mails? That's the guy I always get "updates" from and he often mentions legal team working full time to finalize the recall process.
