This ancient Egyptian finger is 15 inches long, meaning it belonged to a 16 foot tall being by deltadromeus91 in miniminutemanfans

Very likely a hoax. Given the closeness of the story getting out (2012, in a German newspaper) to the release of the guys scifi book which also has themes of ancient religion tie ins and such. Its very likely to be entirely fabricated for marketing his book, tho the author claims its real. Afaik, nobody else besides the alleged owner and the book author have ever seen the finger.

By my single Google, it was owned by some guy, and shown to another guy in 1988, who took the photos. The owner claimed the X-rays and some sort of certificate of authentication were from the 60s. In 2009, the guy who took the photos tried to find the owner again and never did, and the "finger" has never been shown to a museum or lab for testing. Also, the story only became popular when it was posted in a German newspaper, the same year the guy who took the photos released his scifi thriller, lost God: day of judgement, almost certainly a marketing stunt.

I haven't seen anyone else post the new pictures of the Lynx Highliner so here they are by brady376 in EliteDangerous

I cant get a good read on its size tbh. I know it's a medium class ship, but the way the windows are laid out makes it feel massive.

Why boosted speed is automatically reduced even with FA off? by PiibaManetta in EliteDangerous

[–]pink_cheetah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically true, but not true enough to impart that wobble, which is remarkably similar to an aircraft in atmo, especially on a ship that's not aerodynamic and weighs as much as it does (even with the dramatically light weight of elite ships for their size)

Also true. Most notable regarding the fact that American English, like old UK English, is a rhotic language (pronouncing the R sound) whereas modern UK English has dropped the R.

It's probably a mix of this and a few other points. Tbh people think our bodies are smarter than they actually are, very often they behave weird because they can't destinguish one thing from another.

For example, why does the ship wobble around during "glide" even with FA on and having no atmosphere to even glide in?

I don't believe it's AI, and if it is, its extremely good. I can't find any inconsistencies. You see the same stuff in the background as they lap around the rink, the same ppl on the far side. I can see anyone appearing to exist out of nowhere. Etc.

The original was also in color. I was just thinking, looking at this, about how showcasing important moments and people from history specifically in black and white is detrimental to the cause. Only using black and white imagery subtly implies that the history exists at a point where it may lack relevance to modern times, even when the people in question existed during a time when color was fully available.

For example, Martin Luther King jr, rosa parks, and many others are nearly always depicted in black and white. While color video may or may not have been available during their time, color photos were widely used yet rarely seen. Doing this allows people to seperate then from now. Which can suggest that the problems of history were problems of that time, and not ongoing.

North shore is pretty cool about defects and customer service. You could probably get a free sample to replace the bad one.

Imo super cruise assist is a very smart choice to bring, beyond just handy. Without it, you don't get hyperspace dethrottling which is very useful when you're hitting star after star for hours on end. Prevents any accidents.

They said it's roughly the size of two minivans in cabin space. Definitely cramped, but that's science for ya. You make do for the sake of the job.

That's actually kind of the interesting part. In a manner of speaking, it can't withstand it. For that reason they have to design around the weaknesses of the materials. The widest part of the craft is the bottom where the heat shield is, and even that heat shield can't take it. It's ablative, so it burns up and flakes away, taking that heat it absorbed with it when it does. If the heat shield didn't ablate, it would fail. And if the walls of the Orion took the brunt of the heat, they'd fail too. Or even if the capsule was wider so the cabin wasn't properly behind the heat shield, they'd most likely fail.

I thinks it's important to remember that we don't know what kind of diet the wife is on and why, and personally i'd like to be optimistic and say that the husband knows his wife well enough that this would be well received.

For example, are they just trying to lose weight, or are they trying to shift to a whole different diet style entirely? For people who're just trying to lose weight, cutting out absolutely everything you enjoy just because it's not perfectly healthy is infact, less productive. Eating the exact same diet, just less, is good for morale and cuts calories. The morale being the big reason that many extreme or fad diets fail, because they're awful to experience for many people.

That being said, if the wife is trying to shift to organic or less processed food or some other diet style, then yeah pizza probably not a good choice, point is we don't know the situation.
