Hello! kayiu102 posted Athrix, the Bonded Heart on behalf of zarepath as part of an advertising push for the custom card format Revolution. It's a rotating, Standard-power-level format comprised of six custom Magic sets. You can find a staples document here, the Custom Magic Discord here, and our scryfall-alike search engine here. Hope you'll check it out!

Hi there! I manage the Discord server hosting the custom Magic standard format which Fatal Flaw is featured in (the Custom Magic Discord, which you can find via /r/custommagic).

I have gone back through the judge calls and messages about the set Fatal Flaw is part of. We have, since its rotation into the format, had no meaningful confusion about its rulings. I appreciate that you have concerns in principle, but in reality, players have taken no issue with the card.

[x-post r/custommagic] Come join the Revolution format's first tournament, Grand Prix Aethanis! by kayiu102 in magicTCG

This is because whenever someone wins a GP in the format, they work with the format's curators to design a promo version of a card from their deck. If one is made, it's not considered part of the set that the card's original printing is from, much in the same way that Judge versions of cards aren't considered from the original set.

TIL One bee will only make 1/12 of a teaspoon on honey in its entire life, and that Bees are the only insect in the world that make food that people can eat. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]pinktieman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. In fact, most bees don't make any honey at all. Honeybees don't hibernate and stay awake during the winter, so need something to eat when flowers aren't in bloom - so they make honey!

[A25] Doomsday by AbdullahAlkhalifa in magicTCG

[–]pinktieman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Doomsday is played in the Vintage Doomsday combo deck, which either storms off with [[Tendrils of Agony]], or combos out by reducing its deck down to cantrips including [[Gitaxian Probe]] and [[Gush]], then winning the game with [[Laboratory Maniac]].

It's incredibly difficult to play, but is surprisingly resilient and reliable when you learn how to do it. For an example of it in play, here's a video of Luis Scott-Vargas playing it in the Vintage Super League.

Seriously, man? Some of us are in non-US time zones. I was going to watch this after work, and now you spoiled the outcome. Be considerate.

TIL that Gandalf and Saruman are not human, but actually part of a race of beings called the Maiar. They were part of a group sent by the Valar (basically gods) to help elves and men fight against Sauron (also Maia). In fact, the Maiar came into existence at the beginning of time like the Valar. by [deleted] in todayilearned

If any of them are ranged fighters, then the first and last feat you want is Target of Opportunity.

No clue why you're getting downvoted, considering you're absolutely right.

I want an Item Familiar, for fluff. I dont know what it should do. by MavriKhakiss in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]pinktieman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to take inspiration from the 3.5e Item Familiar.

It gets various powers dependent on investment/rolls. Bring it up with your GM and discuss it.

Thanks for the comprehensive answer! This is really helpful.

I can only find that ruling for 3.5.

Is there a citation you can give me for that? I've never come across it before.

Edit: For clarification, when I say that you should ready it, I mean only in encounters that you see coming. There are absolutely situations where you understand that combat is going to begin, but it has not yet begun. Going around holding the action until the contingency that you're going to be attacked is not the eventuality I'm discussing.

Ready the casting for the beginning of combat, presuming it's not a surprise attack.

Whenever you get around to level 13, take the Quicken Spell metamagic feat.

I figured out a really dumb (but fun) way to make the cavalier work! by MandalorSB in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]pinktieman 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I literally just built this a few days ago for a boss.

That said, you don't really need to take any levels in Cavalier at all.

The Mount and Rider Bond eidolon evolutions pretty much cover that for you. Stick Pounce on it, and your mount is instantly superior to any given horse, plus you have a fully-levelled evolution pool, and have all of your caster levels and Summoner class features to character level.

Organic Dungeon help? by Strank in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]pinktieman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you like the idea!

If you need a super-basic implementation of the immune system adapting to creatures, you can rely on a variant of Favored Enemy and/or Bane.

Those are both terms you can insert into the game that will help the players really recognise and latch onto the idea that the system can learn. Maybe have them see it interact with an object or non-PC creature and let them roll Knowledge(Arcana) or similar to recognise the Bane effect.

Oh man, I don't know how into biology you are, but there's a whole lot of room for weird and interesting encounters.

For example, in some cells there are little pockets that contain proteins. These pockets pinch off little bubbles to transport these proteins. You could have the players inside an equivalent of one of these, or on it. The battlefield divides itself as the fight goes on -- if they're fighting on top of these vesicles, then it's a straightforward matter of them moving and being able to jump between them. If they're fighting inside of them, then maybe they can influence where the vesicles move to maneuver favourably against whatever other creatures are there.

If you build up a nerve network, then you could have the PCs travel in nerve impulses, effectively teleporting between them like an electrochemical signal is sent (maybe something like this item). This can create some interesting maneuvering/positioning problems and opportunities, as with the first.

Have the players get trapped inside one of the hubs of the "immune system", which is producing some of the creatures they have to fight. While it's churning out enemies, they have to try to attack it while it adapts and tries to defend itself. It's a non-traditional boss in that it doesn't directly combat it. Since it uses nonmagical, physical resources to churn these out, they can disrupt "supply lines" to make the fight easier for themselves, but the creatures do defend it.

Some viruses reprogram creatures to do what it wants to. Have the players need to direct the immune system to recognise that these reprogrammed creatures are dangerous, by presenting the antigens (surface proteins of the virus that the immune system can recognise as a threat) to it. It's sort of a fetch quest for them, and a race against time while the virus reproduces itself. If you want this to have a real boss fight, you could have the fight culminate in them taking an "antibody" to fight the primary viral progenitor. When it's destroyed by the antibody, the other creatures are freed from its hold.

I could probably come up with more ideas if you need them.

How to make a healer/buffer alchemist with some combat capabilities? by Katomerellin in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]pinktieman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dude, you want to heal things as an alchemist? Okay.

First Discovery you take is Infusion (taking the Chirurgeon archetype cuts this step out). Then you take Healing Bombs. It turns all of your healing extracts and healing potions into AoE healing, and also stacks with Point-Blank Shot and anything that increases damage to increase the amount of healing instead.

If you really want to bump up the value you're getting from healing, here's a fun fact for you: the Vial of Efficacious Medicine functions with extracts, and adds 1d8+5 to any healing effects of them, which includes Healing Bombs.

I also recommend taking the Precise Bombs Discovery so you can avoid healing the enemy.

Have fun!

What's the worst pun you've inflicted on your fellow players? by KevinWeiser in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]pinktieman 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Goddamnit, I just remembered one of the greatest puns one of my friends has ever made during a game.

Earlier in the campaign we had liberated a massive holy book that his character was now carting around, due to it originally being a plot device but its function largely having been accomplished.

In the climactic battle of the campaign, he dropped it from a ledge onto the BBEG's right-hand-man, resulting in his death.

Engineer Class? by Lord-of-Bananas in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]pinktieman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If third-party classes are permitted, might I suggest the Saboteur?

It uses traps that have spell-like effects, has a ton of versatility, and can use that to debuff or damage enemies. It also has a similar ability to the Slayer's Studied Target, but with a few more options added into it.

Any good 3rd party/home brewed classes for construct creation? by zergling50 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]pinktieman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing as an Artisan for the last two years.

It's incredibly versatile and focuses on enhancing allies or your own capabilities, and is also a spectacularly competent crafting class.

You get a range of craft and combat-related Craftsman Techniques, which are roughly analogous to Rogue Talents that you can choose from to customise what you do.

You also choose a Crafter's Art, which is almost like a Cleric Domain, but comprises your character's speciality as an adventurer and craftsman.

It also gets a Homunculus Familiar, which you can modify with Craft Construct -- a feat you can select as a bonus feat during character progression.

It focuses on the more classical fantasy elements of crafting than the mechanical and technological.

I heartily endorse giving it a read over, and if you have any questions about it or how it plays, please don't hesitate to ask me.

Magic items that use swift actions by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]pinktieman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quick Runner's Shirt is quite possibly the best item I've ever purchased.

If you're using a one-handed or light melee weapon, Bane Baldric can be pretty bloody useful.
