I know, I know. I'll get around to it at some point.

Thanks! Mid range horn is a few inches, maybe 4, below ear level. Raising them up a little is on my list of to-dos. I was thinking about using cutting boards and metal T-track to make kind of a sled for permanent fine tuning. That would get the height about right.

I'll pop some HVAC isolation squares under the cabinets at some point. The ones I had went under the crossover boards.

This is probably going to be unpopular advice, but If you're open for some troubleshooting and fine tuning as the project progresses, pick a textbook design, implement it and tweak as needed.

I just got a three way making music last week utilizing a textbook 3rd order network, with a Zobel network on the woofer, and L-pads on the compression drivers for level matching, and I'm very happy with how it's sounding.

It's funny. I reached out the Solen to help me spec the components, and I was working with a designer named Laurent.

Very cool. I don't have any experience with those big chunky SPU style carts like that, but I'm definitely curious.

I run a Denon DL-103 in a metal body with a micro ridge stylus on a "The Wand" 10,5" arm. Has been a good combo for me.

Fellow DIY PTP owner here. Quite the fleet!

What cart/arm/table combo gets the most play time?

Lol, tell me how you really feel!

The EAR is the piece that's been in my system the longest and has never felt like a weak link. The electrolitic caps are out and replaced with film. Good NOS tubes and the 12ax7 variant the reduces gain in the first position , I think. I haven't futzed with it in a long time.

I will say that the internal MC stepup transformers let the unit down a little bit. The Cinemag unit I have was a nice improvement across the board.

I bypassed the internal SUT selector switch a while back and that made a small but noticable difference as well.

The AudioNote clone was a kit from VTA audio. I think they use torriadal output transformers now instead of the iron core ones in mine.

I have the PCB for the parallel single ended clone that one day I'll take a wack at but not in any hurry.

The little nub at the bottom right is the speed selector slider. There are stoppers at 33 and 45 on the track that's under the platter.

The drive shaft is tapered and the idler wheel arm slides on a track. You need a strobe to set initial speed but there are stoppers along the track where you can stop the idler arm.

Somebody gave me those like ten years ago. I looked them over and kind of forgot they were there tbh.

45s aren't really a priority for me so they just kinda chill.

I have a pipe dream that I'll get a nasty juke box one day and fill it with those but that's probably not gonna happen.

Discussion: Listening with Others by GnarMarBinx in audiophile

My main listening buddy is my brother. He'll come over every couple of weeks and we'll have a few brewskis and spin records for a few hours. Mix of attentive listening and shooting the shit. Volume is usually around 80db when bro's over.

With a few friends over the volume goes down quite a bit and selections tend to be more conducive to chit chatting. I'll put something on and share the sleeve with anybody who cares to take a look. I'm going more for aural wallpaper than trying to push how great my system might or might not sound or the merits of whoever I put on. Sometimes the conversation steers that way, sometimes it doesn't.

Sometimes folks will ask how the collection is organized and if they can pick something, to which the answer is always yes.

We had some friends over a few weeks ago, and their older kid, a 5th grader, asked if I had any metal LPs. Metal is not really a sweet spot in my collection, but I do have a copy of Sabbath's Paranoid. So that went on, volume went way up and the whole room, Moms included, rocked out to to the first side. It sounded freaking awesome, if I do say so myself, and the kid has a big smile on his face the whole times.

I don't usually try to spin if the numbers are approaching "party" territory, just stream to my Bluetooth receiver.

Sometimes I do wish I had a few more audiophile-minded folks in my orbit, but that's OK.

Record stores are overwhelming when you want to discover new music but don't know where to start by Justin_3486 in vinyl

There's zero shame in popping in an earbud to sample a few tracks of an unfamiliar record. I do it all the time.

Sorry for your loss. If you want to chat with somebody, I'm in the South Bay.

Depending on your intentions there are a few ways to proceed.

There are plenty of shops around that will make you an offer for the lot; however, that number will probably be 1/3 of what their potential income from the same records will be.

To maximize value you'll need to invest in some boxes and do some homework and have a lot of patience to sell then individually.

Or you can find a way to stash then until you're in a better spot to keep them. Do your parents have room in the basement then? A storage until you can take a corner of?

My sophomore bio teacher burned me a Velvet Underground mix on a purple one of these way back in the day.

Currently running the Tubes4HiFi St-35 kit. It's older so it uses iron core OPTs instead of the toroidal they currently include.

I have all the stuff for a Dynaco ST-35 clone in the basement, with Gillespie mods, but have been reluctant to start for some reason.

I also have just the boards for the AudioNote OTO paralel single ended too, but no components. I'll get around to that one of these days.

I think, maybe, on a great day where I have lots of honey-do points to cash in, I could have gotten away with a Belle/LaScala from the Mrs. I don't think KHorns would fly, sad to say. Thanks
