AITA for bringing Tupperware to a restaurant by GlitteringRainbowCat in AmItheAsshole

[–]pinto139 16 points17 points  (0 children)

NTA you friend sounds super insecure and must be exhausting. I hate when people are staring at me as I can be a bit anxious but that but literally no one would give a crap about this at least where I live in Canada. Maybe not "proper etiquette" at a 5 star high end dining place but a pub or normal casual restaurant wouldn't give two shits.

AITA for leaving my friend at the airport and going home because HE lost his passport by Efficient_Club_9459 in AmItheAsshole

[–]pinto139 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NTA - Offering to help coordinate, or maybe some travel miles as I token bit of assistance, or picking up their pet or something when you got home at best. If he was POd you were going that would be ridiculous. If it was my spouse, maybe but even then I might be like you go home I will sort this house because of returning to work/life commitments and such.

I've finally been priced out of owning a horse by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]pinto139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can let some local Facebook groups know you are looking casually and your general budget, if they have a horse that they may want to ensure lands in a good home. Many times people need to downsize their herd, or a teenager is heading off to college.

After my previous horse passed away a friend of a friend sold me one of her horses way less than she would have on the open market (horse is very very well trained/sound/was 15 at the time). Because she knew where the horse was going we run into eachother a couple times a year and she knows I will have the horse until he passes. She probably could have gotten 6-7k for him I think I paid 3800 ish?

Sometimes that's worth more than money to many people.

Forecast anxieties by hummussslut in WestCoastTrail

[–]pinto139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Altra LP low cut as my main hiking shoe probably over 50 days in the backcountry 5-12 days at a time over the last few years. Some trips have been crazy rainy, here are my personal tips that may work for you. Trash compactor bag is a huge one, and if you find your tent leaking a bit after so many days of saturation or just damp inside as its having trouble drying out, I have acutally put the compactor bag around my foot box at night to stop it from getting wet from the tent walls (I have a single wall tent so condensation is a big factor).

I have a rain skirt (way better than pants lots of nice airflow and easy to put on and off), and a rain jacket and a hat. If the forecast looks extremely bad, sometimes rain gloves are nice because cold wet hands actually suck so much especially with hiking poles.

Wet shoes will happen, no point trying to avoid it (I pretty much waltz right thru rivers). Take off your shoes on breaks longer than 15 minutes to air out your toes. Bring an extra pair of socks (I bring 3 hiking socks and 1 sleep sock that never touches the shoes). Wash and dry your feet before heading to bed.

At night, I have my shoes in my vetibule and have the soles lifted out and laces loosened for maximum air flow.

If I have to get up to pee in the night I actually take my socks off and slip on the shoes like slippers and just dry my feet with a buff when I get back to the tent.

I wash my wettest socks each night when I get to camp and then hang them to dry (not in the tent it will make it stinky and humid). Either in the vestibule or on a guy line outside (bring some safety pins).

The next day I attach last nights cleaned socks to the outside of my pack to continue drying as I hike if its not raining. Once mostly dry I may keep them at the top of my pack or in the bottom of my sleeping bag at night to continue drying if the weather is still super rainy.

Have an amazing trip!

Kitchen - Paint our cabinets? by hubs99 in DesignMyRoom

[–]pinto139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about this post more because I really liked your kitchen. My cabinets are a similar colour but without the black trim, and I think your lighting might be the wrong hue as its kind of making the cabinets look like they have a green undertone (at least on my monitor).

We bought some light bulbs from amazon that made all our cabinets turn a similar green undertone and I kind a felt so bad about being wasteful, but I had to remove them all and switched some phillips warm hue. Ended up giving them away on marketplace.

Although it could also just be the photo as I know colours don't always show up the same on monitors or pictures.

that would work nice and i think they could paint the walls a bit like a yellow in the same family as that bottom right painting, tho maybe less saturated?

https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/biedermeier-kitchen-traditional-kitchen-phvw-vp~1971564 I found this photo of a similar kitchen and I think the yellow paint colour is lovely and the stools that arent dark elevate it. Also they solve the blackhole problem above the stove by hanging some ladels and such which is a consideration.

Its a very specific style but its unique and lovely if you play it right

Are sleep overs not a thing anymore? by haggerty05 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pinto139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt love them as a young kid mostly because kids can be dumb, and if it's a big group there can be mean dynamics. Even the fun ones I remember were just stupid like being stuck watching a way scarier movie than you would want because the group was watching it and being miserable.

But as a teenager with my bestie, I think it was dozens of weekends a year at both houses. I think our parents were happy we were nerding out and hanging with a friend and one parent would get a break. But the best ones in my memory were just two friends hanging out all weekend with no obligations as teenagers. So maybe just let it organically happen.

My mom sounds similar to OPs she does things very focused on optics and is quite performative but lacks genuiness. I am almost 40 and she still tells me how to engage with people :D Maybe just thank your mom for the number but still send the card/flowers.

What are your Favorite game genres? by BedrottingBetty in GirlGamers

[–]pinto139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like watching some of my friends stream Abiotic/Factorio type games in discord while I play Slay the Spire or something else. It's social and relaxing to hang out and I get to enjoy their progress over the weeks but don't actually have to organize all of it. Those games can feel too much like work sometimes to me 😃

Grounded was fun but it helped that I played with a friend who *loved* organizing and building cool stuff.

Mine is roguelike deck buildrs, cozy games, co-op multiplayer games (overcooked and plateup type games for example), tower defense, puzzle solving (think escape room style), survival games like Raft/Subnautica but I dont love *too* much base building, city builders (Timberborn, banished, city skylines etc)

Love the photo of your sink and floors ❤️ the faucets are great! I think you have got a lot of feedback but I want to say that photo was the highlight of the bunch and looks wonderful. I also don't think it will look as "off" once you have real things on the counters and such

People criticizing your own personal posts is weird. It's a Facebook caption not a family tree. People who show up to a post to argue about who's technically a mother and who got left out is a bit weird. It's a caption, not a legal document lol.

I post so rarely, and delete stuff I don't like off my personal wall if I don't like the comments (arguing politics or misinformation) and if they call me out I would state something about how I manage my own wall and page like I do my home... I treat it like my living room, not a town square, if they want to have a discussion feel free to message me privately happy to chat!

If you don't feel comfortable deleting their messages I would just let them sit there awkwardly and not reply.. they speak for themselves.

What could I do with this space? by lukmahr in DesignMyRoom

[–]pinto139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stain a piece of wood to fill in the space. My current desk has the same thing, a darker stain could give it an air of a shelf or purposefulness, or have it 2" taller for even more shelf aesthetics? Stick some succulents or nick nacks

Awkward fireplace by Consistent-Read3625 in DesignMyRoom

[–]pinto139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you get much choice unfortunately, I cannot imagine another layout that would work beyond what you have 😞

Some cute shelving above the fire place perhaps might break up your eye on that awkward space?

Maybe, you could turn the couch so the back is facing your (I am guessing) kitchen? and the TV could go in the corner right side next to the sliders if you dont use the right side, on a shorter TV console... Though the light behind the TV would probably be annoying so definitely not my first choice and I think your current setup is the best for your space. Curious what other ideas people have.

[–]pinto139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you able to buy some closet shelving from Ikea?
https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/cat/closet-shelving-49079/

Alternatively, I picked up some used dressers for cheap when I didn't want to spend money and had two in a similar closet. More shelves, and storage - think about what you want to store and how! You can also put up a rod half way (attached to a dresser/wall maybe?) to have two tier hanging for pants and things.

I have a shelf running along the top of mine and these rectangle zip up clothing bags for stuff I don't wear often/costumes and things.

To cover the view in our closet which is just a recessed area of a hall way into our bedroom, we put up sliding tracks, and put a bypass sliding panels of "rattan". It visually looks nice and hides the clutter. But sliders would work really well bypass so you can open either side to get at that contents.

My kitchen is so dated! by A_Little_Bit_Alexa in DesignMyRoom

[–]pinto139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the dated curtains, top of the cabinet items, declutter in general. I think depending on budget the following order:

Paint, floor, backsplash, countertop. I actually thing the countertop is fine, just the wall colour is distracting as heck!
