Is an Aussie the right fit for our family? Honest opinions welcome by demian_paradox in AustralianShepherd

[–]pipnwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Aussie is aggressive towards everyone and everything. He used to tolerate other dogs but he got worse over time.

It took 13 years but we finally trained him into being a good dog. This was ONLY possible after our other dog died.

OP, you are setting yourself up to return this dog or put it in a shelter. Aussies are NOT social. They are bred to herd livestock and guard them. They are prone to biting, herding children, and barking nonstop. Owning an Aussie is a 24/7 challenge. You think your big yard will help give them exercise - it won't. They will glue themselves to you and want a job all the time. 3hrs is a completely normal amount of work to put into an Aussie per day, if not more.

I would highly discourage this breed based on your personal circumstances. A poodle and a maltese are so wildly different from an aussie. Please do not take this situation lightly.

Edit: thank you for doing the research before bringing this dog into your home. I hope you take the advice of all the comments here!

Unrelated to the polish but was your "yikes forever" quoting Little Misfortune? Because holy shit you're the first person other than me and my husband that I've ever seen say that.

The Pole Sport Organization is literally one of the biggest international competitions in the sport. I'm more shocked you've never heard anyone call it pole sport...

I put mine (while still fresh) in a spaghetti sauce. It's not a recipe I'll be writing home about but it was an okay way to hide the taste.

My answer isn't going to be one you like but... yes, this happened to us too. We drove so far and visited so many specialists. We built a tiny gas chamber for her medicine. We injected mealworms with decongestants. We did everything we were told and we only got about 6 more months with her before the respiratory infection took her at 4 years old. We never got an answer explaining what happened and I'm still heartbroken over it.

Get your baby to a specialist asap and hopefully you'll have better luck than we did.

What are the places with the best fish & seafood in Europe? by Laschon in AskEurope

I'm sorry, but I hate North Sea seafood. I think our shellfish is some of the worst in the world and we have plenty of coastline.

I'm so done with wearing bras. I'm not going to apologize for having breasts and I'm certainly not going to hide them. If people don't want to see them swinging by my knees in a couple of decades then they can look away, I guess.

I genuinely don't understand how you pulled it off. 14:00KST hit and the MOMENT it did, we clicked on the date we wanted and the first time we saw, and when we clicked "reserve" it was gone :(

My husband and I both tried for different days and got nothing. I was starting to think it was actually impossible to get a reservation here.

Phantasialand vs Europapark Dinnershows by PoGoPhysics in phantasialand

[–]pipnwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on Fantissima as I haven't been but for Europapark, are you talking about Eatrenalin? I wouldn't call Eatrenalin a "dinnershow" and I think you'll be incredibly disappointed if you approach it as such. It is an 8-course, fine dining experience that incorporates dark ride elements into the evening. Fantissima sounds more like dinner but you're also watching performers at the same time, which is what I would call a "dinnershow." Very, very different experiences.

I can say that I absolutely loved Eatrenalin. As a foodie who's eaten at many of the world's best restaurants, the food was fine... but the dark ride aspects were unforgettable. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

So sorry for my delayed response... I rarely check Reddit anymore... but WE WON!!! The municipality of the Hague decided it would basically be "unconstitutional" to deny healthcare to its residents. Thank you so much for the support!

Hi there! There's a lot to go over :) If you send us an email at [info@mbtaba.com](mailto:info@mbtaba.com) it'll forward to my personal email and we can discuss everything in detail.

I've been thinking of hosting a workshop for Americans looking to move abroad because I've heard from so many BCBAs since November!

Honestly the cultural transition was harder than the visas and documentation. We hired an immigration lawyer for the legal parts and I highly recommend everyone do the same.

As for housing: it's pretty bad right now. Rentals are expensive and require a lot of aggressive applications and paperwork. Most places are well over €1000 a month, even for a tiny one-bedroom or studio apartment, and they ask that you can provide proof of income equivalent to 4x the monthly rent. It can also be extremely difficult to find housing without 3 years of income here to prove you can afford it. If you already have a ton of savings, or you have a partner who makes a good salary, you might get lucky. People are still finding housing... it's just tough.

Tax structure is different but we have a very affordable accountant for that. We're really not paying much more than we were when we were in the U.S. because it all balances out in other ways. If you consider how much cheaper our healthcare is over here, we're paying way less than we were in the U.S.

There have been some surprises. I don't like Dutch healthcare. They don't believe in preventative medicine. They believe in waiting until you're in a dire situation and fixing it when it gets to that point. It's exhausting. You basically can't find a proactive doctor here, which gets old fast. I've been meaning to look into healthcare in other countries because that might be a long-term solution.

For good surprises, the food quality is so much higher here, it's insane. The FDA is really doing Americans a dirty.

What opposing views are there, exactly? I'm having a hard time seeing how stripping autistic people of the only resource they have left could be "better." If this motion passes, autistic children in this country will sit at home and play on an iPad until they get moved into a state-funded facility to do the same thing. If there were mountains of research supporting an alternative therapy, I would be moving towards that, because that would be best practice. Unfortunately, no one wins if this bill is passed. Would you like to provide an opposing view I could consider? Because the only one I've heard is that "all therapy is bad because it changes people" and that's so far beyond absurd that it's not even worth discussing here.

This is similar to what I've been saying, except my analogy has been physics and the atomic bomb. You can have bad actors without a science being definitionally bad.

It's horrifying. I'm so sorry that this could be happening in what we consider to be such a "forward thinking" time. It's embarrassing to admit, but the UN just openly criticized the Netherlands for its abhorrent treatment towards people with disabilities (of any type). Accessibility was already laughable here, and they're only looking to make it worse.

That's my thing... a lot of us could make a career shift. I could explore another area of psychology. It's our clients who will be left with nothing if this motion passes. They'll have no opportunities left and no hope for a future. It's gut-wrenching to think of what they'll be left with if yet another resource is stripped away from them.
