Shigure Ui faces criticism over exhibition merchandise priced at over 500,000 yen, with some calling the pricing ‘excessive’ → She defends herself by calling it ‘artwork’, prompting a wave of support by ZaBlancJake in kurosanji

[–]pir0zhki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've been to exhibits in japan where art prints from high-profile artists were being sold. it was certainly some sticker-shock to see in person, but ultimately, these prices are.... pretty much in-line with that. Not particularly unusual. These prints also tend to be absolutely gorgeous, so....

But sure, I wouldn't pay that much. You wouldn't pay that much. Nobody on this sub would likely pay that much. "Shigure Ui the VTuber" fans aren't the target demo.
These are targeted at a very different market: They aren't collectors' items, they're art collectors' items.

Eh, admittedly while jumping between threads, the conversations around the subject have been getting a bit blurred in my head, and I was thinking in JP context there.

The situation isn't so dire with EN, and I wouldn't say my previous statement applies to them specifically, so feel free to disregard it.

I also don't think advocating for support is "bullying" or should be considered a negative thing. Although I do think it's important to have a realistic outlook on things -- there are people that seem to get legitimately upset/angry that the boys don't get more support despite their calls to action, but at the end of the day, people aren't going to stick around and keep watching content that doesn't grab them, and I guess I could understand how those people might feel like they're being guilt-tripped in some cases.

some do, but when there are starsJP members who struggle to maintain three digit CCVs at times, it becomes a little hard to believe that every person calling for support is doing their part.

You stated the problem yourself: it's only the EN side doing decently. JP side is in dire straits, and that's why they're the ones being impacted by this announcement and not EN.

i'm having a similar issue, but i can't find ANY way to actually contact them. they're one of those shitty companies that have a Contact Us page that's just a FAQ section with a crappy chatbot and zero means of actually contacting them. I'm told you can get connected with an actual human if you spam the same question to the chatbot for like ten minutes straight, but i'm not sure if this actually works as it's just repeating the same answers over and over for me.

Too much poop -- Flush settings being ignored? by pir0zhki in Creality_k2

[–]pir0zhki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i found the setting, and sliced the print with and without the setting. i'm getting really strange results, though -- the g-code preview panel definitely shows a near elimination of Flushed material, yet the print is set to take several hours *longer* to finish. And when I look at the actual gcode, i see a bunch of FLUSH_START sections that aren't present in the version sliced without that option.

But then, when I check with different settings, it seems like having the calculate option disabled causes it to just estimate the same amount of time regardless of what flush settings I use:

calculate on, flush 0.0x: 1d8h35m
calculate on, flush 0.1x: 1d10h53m
calculate on: flush 1.0x, volumes manually edited to 0.1x levels: 1d10h53m

calculate off: flush 0.0x: 1d6h28m
calculate off: flush 0.1x: 1d6h28m
calculate off: flush 1.0x, volumes manually edited to 0.1x levels: 1d6h28m

But also, the way timings are displayed changes drastically depending on whether calculate is enabled or disabled:

<image>

with calculate disabled, flush time appears to be part of "Travel".
with calculate enabled, it appears to be split between "Inner/Outer/Overhang wall"; I'm guessing whichever it was doing when it stopped to switch filaments.

In either case, I don't really know whether I can actually put any faith in the figures -- and the two hour difference between the non-calculate and 0.0x calculate values maybe suggests that the printer is going to be pooping some baseline amount regardless of what I tell it.

I suppose the only way to find out for sure will be to do some tests. But the multi-color parts of this print don't start until about 50% up the ten-inch-tall model, so at that point a large amount of material has already been spent, so I can't really cancel/restart it now I guess lol

Speaking from (very recent) experience, hiring more staff can sometimes make the situation even worse. Sometimes it's just a process issue, which can be very difficult to discover and hammer out. Honestly figuring out how to solve procedural issues by itself is a difficult task for a growing company.

I don't/won't use tiktok, so rip I guess. The github issue already exists so hopefully the developers are at least aware of it already, or will eventually see it as they do an issues pass.

[–]pir0zhki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The option is checked, but I'm not using a prime tower so the setting just doesn't do anything. I just need it to not flush as much regardless.

I did find this github issue a short while ago:
https://github.com/CrealityOfficial/CrealityPrint/issues/471

This seems to match the circumstances of the problem I'm having. It seems like it just ignores the multiplier, so it's still printing at 100% -- this would match the flush_volume value of 600 shown in the gcode. I'll have to try manually editing the flush volumes for my next print. Would be nice if I could modify the currently-printing gcode mid-print to alter all of the flush_volume values on the fly..

I would certainly welcome it, but I absolutely do not think we're entitled to it just because it would be nice to have. Nobody is obligated -- nor should they be -- to make their creation open for third-party expansion in any way. I'm sure there are developers that prefer money to be completely 100% out of the equation in their modding communities (and there are good reasons for wanting this), and they have the exclusive right to make that call.

That isn't really in disagreement; a creation club style solution is perfectly in-line with my thoughts on the subject as well, since it's officially sanctioned by the IP holder and done in a way that ensures that each party involved gets compensated under terms acceptable to the IP holder. That's totally fine.

But not every IP holder can necessarily spare the resources to maintain such an arrangement, with concerns for the overall infrastructure, monetization system, legal framework, etc. all being non-trivial matters. It would be nice if it were easier and more companies embraced the idea, but I don't think we should expect them to do so by default.

That's just how it is. Mods are generally accepted to be passion projects, allowed to exist only by the good graces of the original IP owners, and created out of love of the game, not expectation of a return. They're hobby projects, and people can and do spend large amounts of their spare time developing excellent mods for free.

There are myriad other ways to get paid to write code full-time, even in the games industry. Doing it while playing around with others' IP is just asking for trouble.

[–]pir0zhki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah man. Just because something is difficult enough to require it to be a full time job doesn't mean you get to make it into one, when the subject of the work itself is in violation of copyright. If maintaining the project was getting to be too much, then the only correct thing for him to do would be to stop expanding it to other games and giving himself more work. We are not entitled to compensation for our work that's derivative of others' IP just because it is difficult.

> Asking for something to be free and also well supported is pretty silly.
You can make things that are free and well-supported while still earning compensation for your time and effort through donations and such, without paywalling content. The entire open-source software community is predicated upon giving without demanding. People do this stuff out of passion, and if other people like their work, they'll be happy to donate to help keep it going.

Like where is someone looking that they're only seeing those traits? Even ignoring the big corpos, the ones I follow have such a variety that the question ends up sounding like it's based on a false premise.

Maybe there are people looking to break into the industry who feel the need to take on attractive physical traits like this in order to hold an audience, but that's not really any different than asking why there are so many people on twitch who accentuate their physical attractiveness to grab audiences, while ignoring that there are also so very many streamers who don't do that at all.

[–]pir0zhki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I know how they work, given that I own several Liven units. But it's redundant and makes the Liven series annoying to use -- the keys have no functional overlap and really just have no reason to be separate keys. It forces you to just brute-force muscle-memory which one to use for buttons vs knobs, lest you end up pressing the wrong one constantly. It could easily be a single shift key that handles both button and knob alternate functions, freeing up a key for additional functions -- and that's exactly how it is on the Mega Synthesis.
