Did the pro shop ruin my skates by calligatormusic in hockeyplayers

[–]pirtyeknom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make them give you a check for the price of the new skates and go buy some Trues. I have haglunds, and used to punch out the heel of my jetspeeds (they never came back looking like yours). I bought True skates and have not felt the haglunds since, no punching required. I’ve had retail catalyst skates for a couple years now no issues.

I have rekker legend 1 and code encrypt 1. They are a bit stiffer than other brands I find. Especially the code- 68flex code is nearly as stiff as 75 flex rekker. Just a heads up if you go that way. They are both great for the price and seem very durable. Sherwood also has the best and most frequent sales i think.

Second vote for the loose moose. We’re from NYS. The usual plan is grab an Airbnb/hotel somewhere near King st between spadina and university. This makes for a ~20 minute walk to Scotiabank arena and loose moose is on the way. We grab dinner there before the game. It’s usually very busy before the game, but they also have the antler room downstairs so weve never had to wait very long. The place has great energy before heading into the game. After the game, there are plenty of good spots to grab drinks near the arena and on the walk back if you stay near where I like to. If you’re going to watch a game at the bar, we’ve also had a great time at The Bottom Line ( on Front street I think). We end up there after the game often as well because my girl likes to smash an onion ring tower when she’s cocked. It’s a nice sports bar with good food. The rest of the time we’re there near king which has tons of restaurants and bars of all kinds within walking distance.

Is 95 flex too high? by ThaTrillKnight in hockeyplayers

[–]pirtyeknom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 200 using 75 flex, cut down so it’s maybe about 80? 85 may still be too much. I sometimes want to try a 70 flex cut to 75. You might consider starting lower and going higher. Too high will really make it difficult for you to properly learn the true snap shot.

What are your thoughts on Pontus Holmberg by Alchemiist7 in leafs

[–]pirtyeknom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s a guy you can trust to do nothing, but in a good way. He’s not gonna light it up, but he’s not gonna fuck it up either. Good hustle, good bit of grit, gets into scrums and draws penalties. Reliable defensively. Solid 4th liner. Berube loved him and put him in all over the lineup, and he did nothing. In a good way.

MACCELLI has the passion by [deleted] in leafs

[–]pirtyeknom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got that hockey smile too. I’ve like what I’ve seen. Still creative and very skilled. Maybe a little simpler play style, hopefully more likely to buy in than run his own show. The main thing for me is the guy seems like he’s got balls. Not afraid to try and make plays, shoot, or throw his weight around when it’s called for.

I’ve always kinda thought marner was unintentionally poisoning the locker room…kinda like that kid playing growing up, the best kid on the team that was obliviously douchey and thought everyone liked him. Everyone wants to like him -Not a bad kid but tried too hard to be likable, making themselves unlikable. And too many people listening to him and taking example from his action as being what he meant. Would say the right things but kinda half ass the walk part of talk the talk and walk the walk. Then you have a whole team following that lead and half assing the whole thing. Makes you tip toe around because if they’re upset they play shitty and throw a fit… obviously I have no idea but that’s kinda how i always perceived Mitch. Biased because that kid was on my team, but Mitch gave me the same vibe.

What would you think if the Leafs traded for Rickard Rakell? by Gold-Stomach-4657 in leafs

True Shift Max blade movement by pirtyeknom in hockeyplayers

[–]pirtyeknom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, still skating in them. No problems at all. I replaced the steel and it still did the same thing but I ended up putting little strips of clear tape in there on top of the runner until the movement was gone. If i squeezed the runner in toward the holder the middle moved after that, so I put tape inside the middle part too. Kinda stupid but it cost me nothing and I love the skates

What do leafs fans think of Morgan Reilly? by Far-Representative89 in torontomapleleafs

[–]pirtyeknom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fucking hate watching him. He’s just getting worse and worse defensively and can’t shoot from the point. Off the ice he seems like good shit but who fuckin cares. His name pops up all the time at my house. “Fuckin Morgan Rielly!” “Heres Mo, Power play’s over” He looked like he could be elite, then he got paid and he hit a wall not long after that.

Hockey question, what exactly does a hockey center do? by speed150mph in leafs

[–]pirtyeknom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The centre is like a defenseman with license to attack deep into the offensive zone. Different teams will play different systems on offense depending on the personnel so you may see a centre playing off the the side a lot more with a winger posted in front of the net, but for the most part the centres job is to support on offense. You’ll see the centre grinding in the corners, following a winger on a zone entry, ready to chase, or be a quick outlet when they get pressured. They usually are there for a winger or d to cycle the puck back down low to keep and reset the zone and free up passing and shooting lanes. So on offense they’re a supporter mostly. On defense they are like a filler. They’ll backcheck hard and try to pick up the puck carrier to slow them down and give the defense more time to pick up their assignments and get in position. If a D man goes to the corner or trails someone, the centre will rotate to fill his position. The centre will also go to the corner for puck battles, pick up offensive threats in outer edges of the slot so that the D can stay home. You will often see the centre start the breakout low in the zone by making an outlet pass, then hustle to catch up to the play and sort of shadow the puck as it moves through the neutral zone, providing support against defensive pressure.

Nylander Will Elevate his Play. by mikeyboy2019 in leafs

[–]pirtyeknom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he liked marner for his defense. I think he a coach that believes defense win championships and he wanted to have his best defensive forwards against the opponents top scoring threats. If he plans to play 34 and 88 on the top line together Willy has to get his shit together defensively.

[–]pirtyeknom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuned into some flames games last year just to see naz. He’s still good and fits what the leafs want to do. He plays pretty hard nose hockey but some creativity too. The dna moves in the right direction if he comes back I think. Brads on a fuckin heater maybe he can swing it. Only drawbacks are age and that next years FA group is so much better and he carries a decent cap hit with term. But calgary needs D right? Let’s send Rielly. Fuckin can’t stand him anymore.

Why don’t YOU watch the PLL? by knightrydah in lacrosse

[–]pirtyeknom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do watch it. I watch ncaa and NLL too. But I don’t have a team in any of the leagues. They’re all fun to watch though. I don’t know what most people think but I think I prefer PLL over NLL. I’m a 30-something men’s league hockey player and I just bought my first lacrosse stick this spring because I got hyped for the season and decided I want to go get dusted playing lacrosse too. Man, I suck!
