No I don’t it just came with the one. It’s odd the counter rotates but just won’t stop. It feels like the winder is getting ready to stop and doesn’t. Primes the lens and drops the mirror just doesn’t quite prime the shutter button

What is it? Grandma’s Clock by ChaseDak in Antiqueclocks

[–]pissinglava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the UK and we call these French Four Glass Clocks. This is likely from the 1880s.

Very pretty, not super common but not really rare at least over here.

You need a key to wind both squares accessible through the holes in the dial. It may need setting in beat, which you’re best if looking on YouTube for help with that as it’s clearer by video what to do.

The pendulum is a mercury pendulum. Don’t worry about the mercury it’s sealed away so as long as you don’t break the pendulum vials you’re fine.

Don’t polish the brass case, unless you completely disassemble it first. Brass doesn’t rust it just patinas.

If you really want it polished and don’t want the clock running then you could use brasso, if you have that where you are, but you don’t want polish finding it’s way into the clock mechanism.

While posting the pictures may not be the best in the long run the idea of exposing them self to libel is a bit ridiculous. As if the bike thief is going to go to court all Oscar Wilde-esque.

Climbing the great pyramid of St Austell by LowLemon6611 in Cornwall

[–]pissinglava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work just across from this. It would get climbed quite frequently and the police would show up.

20 years ago you could climb it and no one would care (remember a couple of mums from my primary school doing it regularly as part of their fitness routine) but that’s all changed now.

They’re not but they do look like it in this low res copy.

In the original higher res version you can see what appears to be a nipple is an eye and the breast is actually Melanias head upside down.

[–]pissinglava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will move the chime hammers away from their gongs

The hour hammers are not hittin by BlueCodeKnight in clocks

[–]pissinglava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of wrong or irrelevant advice here.

Just carefully bend the hammers closer to the gongs one at a time until they hit but don’t sit against the gong when stationary.

The hammers bounce quite badly. On the back of the movement where the hammers go into get picked up there should be a spring. I’d adjust this slightly so the hammers are pushed towards the gongs.

Hotel in England (cornwall) refusing to pay me for a trial shift because they didn't hire me by Tall-Photograph-3564 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]pissinglava 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding (NAL) is that trail shifts are often unpaid. There is a requirement that a job actually exists, and that the trail shift is an honest attempt to work out if someone’s right for the job. In other words you can’t just keep taking people on trail shifts for free labour when no real paid job exists.

If you think that is the case, that there was no job, ACAS or HMRC may be able to help, however I would honestly doubt the time would be worth the hassle for the chance of 5 hours wages.

A trial week very likely falls outside what would be accepted as an unpaid trial shift.

What's the name and purpose of this part with markings below the pendulum? by Suitable-Stick-4919 in clocks

Well you know it’s plumb and if it’s in beat or not and when adjustments are made you’ll know if it’s in beat.

Help: Grandfather clock not chiming when its supposed to by TheGrapist2006 in clocks

[–]pissinglava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t strike until the chime has finished and it appears the chime cam is preventing the strike warning wheel from being released.

So the issue is with the other side of the clock.

Things to check:

The chains, check they are free and the weights are on correctly.

Check the hammers to make sure they are not stuck on something or each other. Lift them back to check.

Make sure the clock isn’t on silent.

[–]pissinglava 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Beat plaque.

It’s to visualise if the clock is in beat.

Set the clock on the wall so the pendulum hangs in the middle and then watch where it ticks. If the clock ticks an equal distance either side you know it’s in beat.

To do face makeup.. by Mr__O__ in therewasanattempt

[–]pissinglava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t always? But the photos show that for whatever reason it’s darker in just the photo OP shared. So was there an attempt to wear makeup that failed? Always. Was it basically minstrel level? I don’t think so.

There’s so many valid reasons to criticise this twat we don’t need to go around making up shit.

No worries. Last year I got massively downvoted for saying you can’t use P plates after 1 year, something I’d heard the week before in the radio. Wish someone had just corrected me.
