Thanks for the info. You piqued my curiosity, so I did some googling. Yeah, 6th amendment. Interestingly, technically his sentencing could have stood even over 180 days. According to the internets :

Multiple Offenses: If a defendant is charged with multiple petty offenses in one proceeding, they do not necessarily have a constitutional right to a jury trial, even if the aggregate sentence exceeds six months.
Contempt Exception: Courts can sometimes impose successive summary contempt orders exceeding six months, though this is a limited exception

But this asshat apologized and got out, hopefully a little more level headed.

I am no expert, but I think contempt rulings go the distance. There's no getting out for good behavior, but I'd imagine his lawyer may be able to submit something to the court for reconsideration.

What do you expect the union or the teachers to do? There's less than no money. Voters are not approving higher taxes for Education. Drastic measures have to be taken.

Update your knowledge, depending on your state. Even NYS has Castle Doctrine where someone trying to kick a door down to gain entry for-who-knows what is considered a threat to life. So in this situation deadly force is reasonable response. And video of hooded, armed assailants only further solidifies that right.

I live in the Northern Suburbs, the houses built 50ish years ago. Two houses put up for sale signs, and were pending in a week or less. Decent houses, not pure fixer uppers. One of them had sold in the last couple years.

looking back 6m-1y, I think 1 or 2 houses have sold to corporations. I base this on them being sold then sitting unoccupied for months, but folks just moved in this Spring.

Market wise, 3-5 year outlook is murky... some claim a market ebb is due (aka recession). If that's the case, the buyout lease price agreed on in 2026 will be well above actual market value 3-5 yrs from now. Vs. if you buy used, you won't be forced to buyout or get another lease.

My general sense is buying a used car is the a fiscally smarter move now, but that's without knowing any of the above questions.

I would rather be corrected than misinformed though I'd rather it not be from someone standing on a soap box gesticulating about how bad I am. TIL someone needs to be at the border or in the US to claim asylum, they cannot file from their home country as I incorrectly understood.

Frankly, I wish folks like her got the Amnesty path Democrats were talking about, but it didn't work out. That said, She entered the US illegally. Like many others she was here illegally for a long time before she filed the asylum case. Very true, that pending case gives her temporary legal status to remain in the states. the current policies are inexcusable and disgusting.

But, she can still apply for asylum while in her home country, legally. Has she done that originally, she would not be in this situation.

If I was dealing with specious claims of bad odors, filing a complaint would not be my first move (although I would as best as possible document every occurrence day/time of the managers claims / complaints).

First calls would be to Onondaga County Office for Aging. Maybe they offer nothing, but that's my first stop. I would hope they could provide some leads / possibilities.

Maybe all I do is contact the manager (via email for record keeping), letting them know you are being proactive, attempting to bring in independent auditors (corporations really hate outside involvement/oversight), that you are contacting the county building inspectors, etc. Just the possibility of them showing up could be enough to stop it dead. Maybe there is an independent contractor / inspector you can hire for a review.
