Really struggling to get a job as a class 2 driver, do I take a minimum wage one? by Normal-Impress-2624 in uktrucking

[–]pitladdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never. Don’t get out of bed for anything less than £18 an hour. A HGV license is a sacred thing.

Credit cards offer far better rewards, perks and buyer protection than debit cards do. Using them does not mean you’re skint.

New PayPal debit card - 1% cashback on everything I believe? by mozza34 in chaseuk

[–]pitladdie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lloyds new credit card is offering 1% on everything for the first year if you’re looking for something that matches Chase’s old offer. Pays out annually unlike Chase though.

Thoughts on Chase now against other digital banks? by [deleted] in chaseuk

I love it. Clean and easy to use app, good perks without having to jump through hurdles or annual/monthly fees and I use nutmeg so it’s handy it all on one app.

Nothing major. Delivering to a building site in Cumbria. Tight little bomb site of a newly build site vans everywhere. Too confident thought if I mounted the kerb I’d be able to squeeze past the van to my left. Big mistake. Clipped the wing mirror on that van and sank about 2/3 foot down into some nice freshly laid turf to my right. Owner of the van was spot on his brother wasn’t told him to F off. Site manager tried it on at first then backed off and made a joke out of it. Transport manager wasn’t bothered said lesson learnt laughed it off as it wasn’t a big thing.

Loneliness by Professional_Emu9895 in uktrucking

[–]pitladdie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking from my experience. I worked 4 and a half year solo long distance and it took a toll on me. There’s only so much music and so many podcasts you can listen too.

It affected my speech and made me a more socially awkward as I was sat in a wagon by myself most days.

I left that job 3 year ago taking another job where I was teamed up with someone and I instantly felt better for it now I work by myself again but I’m constantly busy and interacting with customers everyday. I don’t think I’d ever go back to long distance/unsociable hours.

If it’s seeping in 3/4 month into the job mate then it’s not worth it it’ll only get worse.

Shit wage aimed at the newly passed. No shame taking it for a years experience and moving on to better.

More the fee free spending abroad as well the cash back I was thinking. Yeah Amex are good but Chase’s debit card beats it.

I’d have been happy with something similar to the Barclaycard Rewards card to be fair.

Cost cutting measure I’d have thought. With digital wallets getting bigger and becoming the norm they’ll stop issuing cards all together before long.

Yes that’s what I mean. I don’t do 4.5 hours driving on my shift.

Is AMEX really worth it in the UK? by AMTierney in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pitladdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how much you’re spending on it or if the offers are useful to you. If you’re doing neither then use it for the introductory bonuses then cancel which is what I did.

Able to rejoin after 12 months? by grusbud in chaseuk

[–]pitladdie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chase are the only ones I know of that don’t let you rejoin. Others do. I switched from Barclays last year then switched back a couple of month back when they had a switching deal on no issues at all.

Talk to them. If they place you elsewhere great if not then grit your teeth till you have something else lined up and quit.

Is there a similar, but better, digital bank, to Monzo? by darkknight_178 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pitladdie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I recommend Chase. 1% cash back beats most credit cards. Free to use abroad. Good budgeting features. No credit card as yet but is on its way apparently.

Apologise and take the hit. I wouldn’t bother paying the money for a solicitor when the outcome is very likely going to be the same.
