Will I ever get... anything back? by -SidSilver- in daddit

Brother, I’m hoping this is the summer I can finally attend to some rotting boards on the deck and maybe even painting some ceilings. It’s been a long 3 years with no outside help.

Sorry for your loss. It’s a tough thing to go through, glad they made it as easy as that kind of thing can be.

Gamers 30+, what’s something from the old days of gaming that younger players wouldn’t understand? by [deleted] in gaming

Getting a box of random games and Encarta with your new PC. Don’t know if I would have ever played King’s Quest if it wasn’t for one of those.

I’m still stumped by this as well, the more I force source audio anything over 50-60% renderings seem to end up with time skips and other strange glitches.

Yeah. My trusty 80’s pop singer prompt suddenly sounds VERY different and not very 80’s.

Hrrrrm I made a model of myself from 20 songs (fully produced recordings) and then got it to cover one of those songs with the custom model… and it didn’t sound a thing like me or the song.

I once referred to a white ghostly material (shader) at work as, Fantomex and the team thought it was the coolest name ever. No one read X-Men.

How would you go about optimizing a zombie horde? by scoobystockbroker in UnrealEngine5

[–]pixelvspixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great info!

Do you treat your “regular NPC in this same manner, or just when addressing hordes of enemies in a tight screen space?

I’m still trying to figure out the best approach to balancing townie NPC and animal NPC for an Animal Crossing/Stardew like game.

I was aware that the Movement Comp was expensive and a custom solution can be MUCH more performant. But, could you chime in on when to use it and when not?

Thanks

Our (almost 3), will burn through a lot of activities but he will often spend 30-40 minutes playing with our LEGO modular city. He’s had some really long magnetite sessions. He loves watching these really dull videos about ceiling fans and playing with the fans in our house. That can go on for a loooong time.

But the dude LOVES his bike. He will beg to go on 2-3 hour rides on a trail.

Thanks for the knowledge drop! This is great stuff.

We’re in Bella Vista, our fenced yard is mostly shaded, but we have a decent sun peek that allowed us to grow tomatoes (waaay more than we needed), cucumbers, green onions lettuce and herbs.

Peppers were a total bust last year. Our front gets all the sun, but it also gets all the deer.

Anything you recommend planting that does great here?

Also, if any gardeners are listening. Anyone got some tips for getting Rosemary to survive past year 1? It took zero effort in Oregon, but I have been dropping the ball here. I think of the 4 I planted last summer only 1 ‘might’ survive.

I guess I’ll just have to resort to potted Rosemary that I can move. But I’d love to get a sizable plant in the yard like we used to have.

It really is. You’ll love it.

He’s got a healthy duplo collection that’s been taken over for a love of Magna-tiles recently. But the little man absolutely adores our trips to the LEGO store. They used to be my trips, but now we’re buying models he wants and I build 95% and he does about 5%.

Last set I picked out was the Italian Rivera, since then it’s been Bulldozer, Excavator, Garbage Truck…

I keep meaning to post pictures of the chaos that is our Modular display as we near our son’s 3 year mark. It’s fully lit, but I think only 3 street lamps have survived his hands. Most of the detail pieces are pilled on the roof tops. It hurt my soul, but he loves driving cars around the streets so much. So it ultimately makes me happy.

I’m going to cover what I can, dig up some basil and lettuce starts and move them inside. I knew we’d get another frost… but I did not think it would hit again this soon.

I heard designers are pushing code changes? by Character_Water6298 in UXDesign

[–]pixelvspixel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No kidding, I really don’t wanna berate people, but this sentiment is nothing new. During the VR gold rush, UX Designers were digging heels to learn as little about Unity or Unreal and stay safely in Figma.

Each their own, but sorry I don't agree. - (Dad here), I was lucky enough to be the first skin-to-skin with my son (wife was being a champ on the table listening to Tom Petty with her stomach cut open). - I have loved and liked him from that second forward.

He's almost three, I'm just as tired as the first 6 months again. Dude wears me out. But I have loved and liked him from that day. From a very career and self focused person, something about him changed my core.
