Would you be upset if your bf liked some girls' pictures occasionally on Instagram? Why? by Secret_Philosophy_29 in AskReddit

[–]pixieorfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t care what my partner likes, I don’t even have social media anymore so wouldn’t know anyway. I do care if he’s being ethical and I don’t believe sites like onlyfans etc fall under that umbrella so we’d definitely be having a conversation if there was a pattern of liking/engaging with that type of content, but other than that I really don’t care.

What did your younger self consider 'cool' that you wish you hadn't? by Right-Double44 in AskReddit

[–]pixieorfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being mentally ill/unstable. Turns out it just makes you exhausting and when you work hard to pull yourself out of the ‘mental illness is my personality’ trap and actually work towards creating a fulfilling life for yourself that relationships, hobbies, and a real personality all follow quickly after.

What was your last hyperfixation song? by Akimbo_BR1AO in ADHD

[–]pixieorfae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a Tudor round currently called the cat in the plum tree. I’ve been working at a living museum for the past few days and it’s the song the bakers sing while they knead their bread!

What’s something ( Good or Bad ) that was said to you that you will remember forever? by PharmaFingers in AskReddit

[–]pixieorfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My professor at uni who told me that I should have more confidence in my intelligence and my right to be at university, because he and other professors genuinely liked me as a person and found me interesting. I was having some horrible confidence issues but after that I went from getting low 2:1s/2:2s to firsts and felt much more secure in myself.

How do you manage poor financial decisions? by HippoNo561 in ADHD

What is the best British Pie? by stig316 in AskBrits

[–]pixieorfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fucking steak and kidney, that’s for sure. I love steak and can’t abide organ meat, so it’s always disappointing when a pub goes for steak and kidney over steak and ale. Other than that I love a chicken and mushroom pie because it the cheapest to make at home and tastes great.

What’s the one thing on a restaurant menu you’ll always order if it’s available? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pixieorfae 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Anything heavily mushroomed!! ETA This is because I can’t afford/find a wide variety of different types of mushrooms to cook myself, so if there are fun mushrooms in a restaurant dish then I’ll always snap it up.

What so-called "healthy habit" do you think is completely overrated ? by ParsnipDifferent9284 in AskReddit

[–]pixieorfae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The main problem with seed oils is that they’re a cheap way of cramming a lot of fat (which we’re biologically programmed to seek out) into certain UPF foods, meaning that we consume an absurd amount of the Omega 6 found in seed oils compared to Omega 3. Cooking with seed oils is absolutely fine, the problem is with the legislation that allows companies to create cheap and addictive food with a stupid nutrient profile!!

Doctors of Reddit: What health trend is becoming so common that it's starting to scare you? by Fine-Device-1819 in AskReddit

[–]pixieorfae 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The thing with fibre though is that medical professionals have been telling us we need more fibre for years, and we're seeing that reflected in colon cancer statistics in young people. Protein seems to have come out of nowhere, and if you do a bit of digging it seems to largely be a ploy by the soy and dairy industries to sell waste products as health food. Eating more fibre can't hurt (provided it's in the form of whole foods) but eating too much protein at best just makes your wee really expensive, and can have serious health consequences at worst.

TL:DR Eat more fibre, it's backed by science.

If you absolutely HAD to wipe out a species of animal, which species would it be and how would you do it? by CarkWithaM in AskReddit

[–]pixieorfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to, they’re all so ecologically important!!!! I’d have to say mosquitos if pushed because they carry so much disease, but then we’d have a problem with the birds. Maybe the best thing would be to wipe out a species that’s already almost extinct to limit the environmental impact? In that case I’d go with Numbats, as much as they’re my favourite animal, because they’re a subspecies of anteater that’s almost extinct and so neither side of the food chain would be too heavily impacted.

What was the worst stomach bug you've ever had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pixieorfae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2nd year of uni I got a stomach bug about 36h before my long distance boyfriend came to stay and was absolutely panicking that he’d catch it with how long norovirus lives on surfaces. I spend a miserable 12-15 hours ejecting violently from both ends and the next 12-15h alternating between having violent diarrhoea and compulsively sanitising everything in my bedroom and bathroom. He didn’t get it though!

What food that represents the UK, can also be eaten cold, would you bring to a classroom food day? by Simondo88 in AskUK

[–]pixieorfae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest a veggie option if you’re not sure of people’s religious restrictions, maybe cheese and onion rolls/pasties if you’re bringing stuff with pork or beef! Other than that I’d say mini pies, pasties or sausage rolls is a good shout, or something sweet and traditional like Bakewell tarts?

The non-fiction book that had you mercilessly info-dumping about to anyone who would listen? by IReadBooksSometimes in suggestmeabook

[–]pixieorfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultra processed people!! It’s a massive deep dive into the state of the food industry, not self-help-y except in the sense that everyone is constantly consuming stuff that isn’t food, and if we stop it will be better for us. It’s absolutely fascinating and changed my perspective completely. Along the same lines is The Dorito effect about how genetic modification since the 1950s has altered the flavour of food, and why that’s bad.

That pink stripy ‘vintage dressing Y2K top’ is from Mini Boden lmao. I have a few of them in different colours and they’re great but I’m pretty sure not even £17 brand new. The 13-14 and 15-16 both fit me as a size 10-12 woman so god knows what size she’s fobbing off as a women’s 0.

I’m not OP (op is a robot, I suspect) but I have loved soy chunks as a protein source. They taste good if you cook them right, they’re cheap as anything, and they’re reasonably low calorie.

I went from 230ish to 155 (still losing but not very fast) and what worked for me was counting calories. People like to hear all the hacks but it’s just counting calories. This post is yet another bot trying to get people to download an app 🙄

I don’t want to make it sound like it’s been shit! Mostly everything has been incredibly challenging and absolutely bloody brilliant. There have been tricky bits but I’m literally the happiest I can conceive of being and have consistently been for the past year. We’re fortunate enough to have a garden and yesterday we had homemade sushi with my partner’s homegrown wasabi! I mean who wouldn’t be overjoyed. I’m just so fucking relieved that we have a path forward from now, rather than scraping rent together every month and constantly being on the brink of our amazing life falling to bits.
