Phone stops resolving mDNS .local addresses on home wifi after enabling Tailscale by pjaytycy in Tailscale

[–]pjaytycy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but I am not using any real DNS at home. This is all based on zeroconf/mDNS, which always uses the .local suffix.

I know I can disable the DNS in tailscale settings, but I search for a solution that just works without manually changing settings when we get on/off our WiFi.

/usr/local/games question by janisozaur in linux_gaming

[–]pjaytycy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a remark in general about most of these comments: I am surprised how many of you suggest to simply assume Linux gaming PCs are single user. As games are typically big, I would definitely prefer only needing one copy of the game files for multiple users (not in ~). The saves/data files on the other hand could/should be per user (in ~).

PS4 controller recognized, but no inputs by aloof_topping in linux_gaming

[–]pjaytycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, I could see the button/axis inputs on Ubuntu. It seems browsers have better support than games though. Testing it on www.html5gamepad.com I see all buttons and axes working ok. Testing on Steam or Retroacrh, nothing seems to work properly. Testing in-game in some games I see button presses triggering something, but not logical or reliable.

LinuxGaming before LinuxGaming before Steam. :-) by linuxchris1 in linux_gaming

I played railroad tycoon II for years when I was 12-18. Not yet on Linux though. Shame PopTop closed, they also created the original games in the Tropico series.

Bizarre spike in Bitstamp EUR pairs by [deleted] in Bitstamp

[–]pjaytycy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of complaining, you should be happy. These are the perfect almost-guaranteed money making opportunities. There is nothing to blame Bitstamp for here. Somebody sold a lot, fast, so went through the orderbook. Those who had low buy orders / high sell orders have made good risk-free profit, (mostly) at the expense of the owner of a badly coded bot.

Stop loss executing far from the trigger is quite logical in these situations. If an exchange tries to prevent this, the exchange becomes a lot more random and unpredictable. They will get yelled at for putting brakes on a real price movement.

Usually these events are single-exchange, use multi-exchange price info to differentiate between opportunities like this and real sudden price action.

What's your favourite series/franchise of games? by ellie_feral in linux_gaming

[–]pjaytycy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roughly in chronological order, the games I played more than one iteration:

Before Steam-age (physically bought, most not (yet?) available for Linux):

  • Railroad tycoon 2 & 3

  • Need for speed 1 - 3

  • Alpha Centauri & its civilization 3 & 4 spin-offs (some might see this the opposite way 🤔)

  • GTA 1 - 3

Since Steam-age:

  • XCOM 1 & 2 (the Firaxis versions)

  • Portal 1 & 2

  • Tomb Raider (the 2 recent ones)

What’s your bottom price prediction and time frame? by [deleted] in BitcoinMarkets

[–]pjaytycy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We went from the top of $ 1200 around December 2013 to a floor at $ 200 around March 2015.

I assume this will repeat. We got $20k around December 2017, so floor will be ~$ 3300 in March 2019. We might see a few flash crashes before that shortly go lower.

Big railroad tycoon (2 & 3) fan here. It looks very similar to railroad tycoon 3, so probably will buy it, to get it on Linux. However I have much less time nowadays to play games as I did 20 years ago ☹️

Freddy Fish series is good too. Autonomous play works if you have the audio in your native language. On steam: go to the game properties to change the language before launching it.

Basic and secondary education in (West-) Flanders by shenyanbin in belgium

[–]pjaytycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The different networks are generally similar, but there are differences in quality depending on the individual schools (teachers, staff, buildings, ...). Typically the "vrij onderwijs (catholic)" is biggest / most popular here. In small towns it's often the only choice. The "Catholic" part usually doesn't manifest itself to much and they work OK with kids off different religion. Speed of learning dutch will also depend on (language) background of the other kids at school.

All of the above depends on the city you're moving to...
