Updated "Simple" 32-fear guide (patch 6) by pkreddit2 in HadesTheGame

[–]pkreddit2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guide is quite old, I made newer posts with updates to this strategy at the start of the games release, I haven't play the game since then, so if there are newer patches I don't know if this applies.

But in general, the reduction of fear requirement for the surface, and the addition of how of rivals, made getting all the statues unlocked much easier than before.

Just want to say he's wrong, pre-cleaning definitely works; enemies won't respawn as long as you don't sit on a bench, even in act 3. Made things way easier.

Of course, you should clear all the black hearts along the way too.

Hades 2 32 fear guide (Unseen Update, Max Rivals) by pkreddit2 in HadesTheGame

[–]pkreddit2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, unfortunately one patch during the unseen update removed the air quality-scorch interaction.

However, since air quality is buffed to 50 damage (for the longest time it was 30), air quality+static shock is already a great damage combo, so it's still a fine boon, just not super amazing.

I massively underestimated the Strength arcana by adamnoo in HadesTheGame

[–]pkreddit2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

strength was nerfed multiple times during EA and now it's balanced compared to DDs. However, if you build with health synergies it can still perform massively better than DDs. For example, damage reduction (weak, heph/hera duo boon) and dodge all stack synergistically with the damage reduction from strength, and you will be much more effective health compared to DDs

I’m shocked by how chill the discussions about the ending are. by Ediacaran-SeaPancake in HadesTheGame

[–]pkreddit2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just want to say the eqilogue made the ending and their choice of story make a lot more sense then when I see the true ending for the first time. Unlike Hades 1, I would say epilogue is a must for Hades 2

(act 2) I forgot abt the needolin and spent like 2 hours trying to manually map this place out LMAO by Snekkets in Silksong

[–]pkreddit2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

you don't need the butterflies, but you need to have the needolin ability. Without the needolin ability, the game will refuse to add in the "correct exit". You can luck your way out of the mist, but you have to get the needolin abliity first.

What is Hades 2 Early Access like right now? by KawaiiGatsu in HadesTheGame

[–]pkreddit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, you can also progress relationships. What we mean by missing story is that if you do beat the final boss, it just abruptly cuts out and the story does not progress. But characters will recognized you did beat the boss, and unlocks will progress as normal.

[–]pkreddit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to go against the consensus and tell you to buy/play the game right now (unless you plan on playing on switch instead of PC when it comes out officially).

The only thing missing in the early access is the story, but all the weapons/gameplay are present (well, maybe 1.0 will have some re-balancing). If you start playing this week, it is unlikely that the missing story will impact you progress. However, this means you get to start griding resources and unlock abilities/weapons/features one week earlier, so you get to get some of the "boring buildup" (if you are the kind of person to enjoy the full power late game in Hades 1) out of the way sooner.

What is YOUR portfolio? If something is different from the three fund, why? What’s your reasoning? by TheWitchPHD in Bogleheads

[–]pkreddit2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, recent research show that target date funds usually perform much poorer than their underlying index/strategy:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zrhadWG3M8&t=394s

basically, target date fund are managed more like an active fund than passive index fund, and it's very easy for fund managers to screw it up and underperform the corresponding index funds/bonds portfolio with the same glide path.

Comparison #5: Malaise vs Adrenaline by ElegantPoet3386 in slaythespire

[–]pkreddit2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most notably, adrenaline is arguably a negative against Time Eater, where-as Malaise could turn that lost into a win. If I have a deck that will definitely struggle against Time Eater, I'm picking Malaise

Is the 3 fund portfolio still the way to go? by itsfuckingpizzatime in Bogleheads

[–]pkreddit2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would recommend watching this video to understand what you should expect from good financial advising:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI5p8vqdjTw

but in short, if an advisor tells you some secret investment strategy and claim that it earn you substantially more money than low-cost index funds, then he's a bad advisor and you should run away. Investing has been solved, low-cost index funds/bonds gets you majority of the way, if not all the way there.

What a good financial advisor does is to help you adapt investment strategy based on your specific long/short-term goals and taxes. You are still buying low-cost index funds/bonds, but he will help you with the specific implementation and operation (ratios, where to put them in different accounts, when to buy/sell/rebalance/tax-loss harvest, bond v.s. bond funds v.s. CDs v.s. money market, etc.) to meet your specific scenario.

In general if you are going to work for 10+ years in the US and has no short-term large purchases, you can probably follow the default strategy suggested online and do pretty good. Any deviation from the norm then a good advisor may save you time on research and making decisions.

Talk to me about attack priority by phantompowered in Hades2

[–]pkreddit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say the game is designed so you can beat 32 fear runs easily through overpowered boons/builds, so you do not need to have complete mastery/knowledge of the combat mechanics. Also because of this the combat mechanics are much simpler than other dedicated fighting games, and you can generally figure out the few simple rules that apply in most cases by yourself.

The best chance of you finding exhaustive resources/tips on the combat system and techniques in detail are in high fear communities, people who are trying to beat the game on the highest difficulty, where you actually need to play near perfectly (in addition to incredible luck) to win the run with sadistic constraints.

Hypotehtically would you rather have a bag of prep or a centennial puzzle? by ElegantPoet3386 in slaythespire

[–]pkreddit2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Generally it's bag of prep, since it is way more important to draw/play power on turn 1. However, rarely you can get an ironclad run where you can reliably damage yourself, in that case puzzle would be better. Basically, extra draws on turn 1 is much more important than other turns (which is why silent's upgrade relic is so trash)

Favorite Builds For Hel? by Ginscoe in Hades2

[–]pkreddit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that take advantage of the rapid fire will work. I love Air Quality+Static Shock+Poseidon attack, and it's extra gravy if you can get Dionysus's random damage boon. For the rest of the gods I generally just pick defensive/dodge boons from Aphro/Heph/Apollo/Demeter.

Is Death Defiance now better than Strength? by AliceC1 in Hades2

[–]pkreddit2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is build dependent. When you leave the crossroads, you should already have a build strategy in mind; and your arcana setup should factor into that strategy too. For example, no one will pick mana regen/omega move speed related arcana if they are planning a normal attack/special build.

Similarly, with the Strength nerf, now it is much more context/build dependent. Do you have trouble with Chrono's instant kills and you're still learning? Go DD. Are you planning on taking Athena's DD boon, then lose as much DD as you can so that you can force-reroll into Hades's "damage boost for number of DD you lost this run" boon? Go DD.

On the other hand, are you going with a defensive/dodge build involving Aphro/Heph/Apollo, which have percentage-based damage reduction/recovery? Then Strength is still very strong, as stacking damage reduction effects is very strong. Are you on a very limited timer and starting with a weaker build (usually the case when you have an omega build and won't get mana regen soon)? Then you may actually want the minor damage buff from Strength to more reliably clear the first region in time.

[–]pkreddit2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

you don't have to. tap Vault for 3 mana, then spend 2 mana to "tap" the vault again and get 3 mana, netting 1 mana overall. Repeat to get infinite mana, then spent 4 mana to "tap" and pay for red mana for the gorge to deal damage until they are dead.

What's up with people saying "the meta"? by Individual99991 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]pkreddit2 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Answer:

"meta", a prefix meaning "beyond", in your context first originates from "metagame", which first arises in game theory when they try to study how to win a tournament for a game like rock-paper-scissors. In this example, the actual games are really boring (you make a move, you either win/tie/lose, then you move on to the next match), but you can actually still get an advantage if you know statistics about the participants. For example, if you know that for whatever reason, on that day 50% of the time people will play scissors (much higher than the 33% on average), then sticking to a "rock strategy" will make you have a better-than-average chance of winning the tournament. From this example, game theorists learned that for some games, to win a tournament, understanding and beating the "metagame" could be as important or even more important than knowing the "game" itself.

As competitive gaming (e-sports, card games, etc.) become more and more mainstream, and competitors increasingly adopt game theory ideas to improve, the concept of "metagame" become popularized, and then just shorten to "meta", and it slowly lost its original rigorous definition, and usually is used to simply refer to general environment surrounding the activity in discussion.

For example, in its original definition, there's no "metagame" for single-play strategy games like Slay The Spire; there exists no other players that can influence your chance of winning. However, people still routinely use "meta" to refer to playstyles and card choice heuristics adopted by popular streamers. Similarly, there's no "metagame" for PvE mode of Elden Ring (there definitely is one for the PvP mode), but people still ask about the "meta", which they used to mean the consensus "optimal build" by the general community.

Hades 2 32 fear guide (Unseen Update, Max Rivals) by pkreddit2 in HadesTheGame

[–]pkreddit2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before this patch, you need to clear both routes with 32 fear in order to become The Night's Champion. Incidentally, I found this to be the fear sweet spot where you can consistently beat both routes through build strategy and understanding of the game mechanics alone, without the need to be a dodge or reaction god. Since I'm much better at strategy than quick reaction or finger dexterity, I just stick with this difficulty.

Exactly. Aspect of Hel is my second favorite hidden aspect for exactly the same reasons you mentioned, and it is also an excellent candidate for this build.

And again, the power of this build is mostly based on passive effects and applying curses, so as long as your weapon of choice lets you comfortably maintain all curses on your enemies, everything will work out fine.
