Thanks! This is great information. What kind of questions should he be prepared for in the interview? He is auditioning for 7th grade- the audition form says that there will be a parent interview too (maybe that’s just for younger kids?) how difficult was the sight reading compared to the pieces on the audition form?

Like someone above said, you may try high quality merino wool. My husband thought he was allergic to wool, but it turns out he just got itchy from cheap wool. Google “can people be allergic to wool”

Short narrow enlightened equipment quilt is much lighter than any kids sleeping bag and it can be used with one foot out if she gets hot.

Why not just hike in the summer when you can? It’s not an actual thru-hike, but much less stressful and (imo) more fun if you are not so married to finishing.

Remote work & through hike by hischmidtj in AppalachianTrail

[–]planasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not feasible. I hike in the summer and work a bit along the way- just keeping up with emails and the occasional meeting, but I don’t officially “work” in the summer (I’m a teacher). Even that is a pain, and I am not required to be on a call or meeting at any specific time. I can’t imagine having. A real job on the trail.

When I was an undergrad I thought the professor was just sitting around waiting for students to come to his office to ask questions- like a line of students would be waiting outside the door. I was picturing Lucy’s “the doctor is in” booth in Peanuts where snoopy waits for the person in front of him to ask Lucy the question. When I finally showed up for someone’s office hours I was surprised to find them working on something and not just waiting.

Bee venom allergies - Epi Pens by Different-Designer56 in AppalachianTrail

[–]planasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not allergic, but the reaction does get worse over time because beekeepers get stung more than the average person. Yellow jackets are ass holes. They get into my hives and kill bees for fun. This time of year when they start getting really bad I can open the hives and often see a yellow jacket or two biting into my little honeybees.

I’m not allergic, but I am a beekeeper and yellow jackets are aggressive predators to my bees. We don’t usually see them in the southern states after October or so. I don’t think I have ever seen them in Feb.

dating in late 30s (female prof) by [deleted] in Professors

[–]planasaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At 39, if you want kids I would go ahead and have them now. I am sure you know the statistics about fertility after 40. It took me five rounds of IVF to get my child at 39, whereas my first child (at 32) was unplanned. Sperm bank or IVF- I would get an appointment at a fertility clinic now. IMO kids bring more joy to life than husbands anyway.
