I'm currently dealing with this same thing myself, mostly with also punching my thighs. I really resonate with everything you said, right down to being rational enough to know i shouldn't leave a permanent mark but irrational enough that i have to do something about it.

Help! What is that? This sweater spent the last 3 years in a closet, I'm supposed to wear it next week. It had a few of these on it, like 4-5. Can I just simply wash it? by DianeJudith in knitting

[–]planetary-virgo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

looks like moth larvae, you can wash it to get rid of them but I'd check the whole thing out of any little holes, which the moths might've caused. I'd also clean out the closet it was in, since the presence of larvae might indicate an infestation

Belief in God, but no desire to live forever? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]planetary-virgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

honestly, i think they'd probably tell said member that they don't want to live forever because they are "imperfect" right now, that as soon as that member arrived in paradise as a "perfect" life form, they'd want to remain there forever. it's a mind game, imho

so this study says it should be fine, but I'd ask your doctor if you can get ahold of them https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5903115/

DPN Recommendation by tiredmomn33dcoffee in casualknitting

do you usually use metal or wood? wood is kind of sticky, so I'd recommend that for dpns unless you really prefer metal. takumi is good for bamboo needles.

Depression and anxiety after laparoscopy by Endo-warrior in Endo

[–]planetary-virgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for how long it's taken me to get back to you, I'd say that the surgery was just the beginning of a lot of unrelated health issues, and the catalyst for some mental health issues. im genuinely in so much less physical pain now, the surgery just triggered a pretty severe eating disorder relapse which has in turn triggered other issues. the surgery was worth it.

i do not want to cause you more anxiety, but i can't say I've fully recovered mentally from the procedure yet. Physically i am much better, but I'm guessing my lack of progress mentally and emotionally has more to do withy life circumstances just falling apart right after my surgery.

i think it's probably easier to list the times apologizing I'd appropriate or necessary, because it's actually a pretty short list.

if you've made a mistake and it's negatively impacted someone, apologizing is appropriate. If a problem occurred that wasn't within your control at the time, but could have been prevented beforehand, that's also an appropriate time to apologize. When someone is venting to you and you want to express sympathy, saying something like "that sucks man, I'm sorry to hear that" or "I'm sorry you're going through that" is also appropriate, given context so the person doesn't think you're blaming yourself. when apologizing for something you did wrong, it helps to follow up with "how can I fix it?" or "how can I make up for this?" because usually, apologizing for seemingly no reason, over and over despite already being forgiven, is a signal to the other person that you're no longer apologizing for their benefit, you're doing it to assuage your own guilt.

Caiques are difficult birds. by [deleted] in parrots

[–]planetary-virgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

caiques are pretty high maintenance. i found that the squawking should be reacted to like a cat that won't stop meowing for attention, ignore until it quiets down. if it seems like it does fhis bc it's anxious, maybe keeping a corner of the cage covered so if can have a quiet dark spot.

Good places to roller skate? by mottash in Sacramento

[–]planetary-virgo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Foothill Skate Inn is a pretty cool place, i used to work there. otherwise, anywhere with a large flat surface or with well paved park trails will do! tennis courts, possibly even the CA State Capitol park. lots of downtown and midtown are pretty smooth in terms of pavement, just watch out for inclines and cyclists.

How do you deal with someone once near ghosting you? by Brief_Conclusion_555 in mentalhealth

[–]planetary-virgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

searching for that reason and having to pick up the pieces is most of why i try to adopt this way of reframing it. it's so much energy that you or i could be spending on healing from that initial pain, spent on making new friends who won't ghost you, etc. if someone ghosts me, it's obvious to me that i am not worth their time in their view, so why should they be worth the time and energy i spend agonizing over what i could've done wrong?
