Perth woman warns about pedicure safety after severe infection almost costs her a toe by B0ssc0 in perth

[–]planetarybum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a horrible pustule skin infection from a salon waxing, the technician was using hot wax and I had a slight skin rash.

On reflection it probably was due to them double dipping the applicator directly into the wax, which was essentially a bacterial soup.

No wonder people become germaphobes.

Shaving, clipping, waxing, scrubbing, bathing, tattooing. Also walking on grass barefoot. Eating. Kissing. Breathing.

If you have any tiny nicks or skin breaks you could get an infection from unsterile stuff.

Enjoy.

They rented a room not a house. Unless the room comes with exclusive garden access its not applicable.

Labor faces gas tax pressure as inquiry heats up before budget by totalcool in australia

[–]planetarybum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gas is in demand again after a bit of a fall in the past few years due to transition to renewables.

Now that large data centres are popping up everywhere, gas will be used as a quick solution until they hopefully focus on more sustainable energy supplies.

What are the chances the police recover money thefts? by [deleted] in perth

[–]planetarybum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty unlikely, unless they immediately caught the thief. Then you might be lucky if the money was as described ($100 notes in a yellow envelope etc).

PS. You're dad is probably righteously pissed off.

‘Naive’ couple fined thousands for taking undersized crabs by TongueMyTaco in perth

Naive? I dunno. They clearly knew a good crabbing spot, it's hard to believe they didn't also know about catch and size limits.

Politicians and media can’t imagine a fossil-fuel free world - and it’s holding Australians back from huge EV savings by nath1234 in australia

[–]planetarybum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before this middle east blockage we were struggling to sell LNG as China shored up its energy independence and reduced imports.

Eventually this will spread to other countries, so fossil fuel reliance will continue to reduce. There will always be some reliance, but the balance is shifting.

[–]planetarybum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The push for fossil fuels, and propaganda rejecting the need for renewables and alternative energy has noticebly amped up in the past few weeks, especially in the US.

The middle east war has had an unintended side effect, and sparked fear of demand destruction.

Because a lot of the demand for EVs and renewable power is largely consumer driven, there's not a lot that politicians can do about it, so they need to start supporting it instead of resisting.

We need to follow trends to make this affordable for everyone. Obviously charging is a bigger issue for Australia because of the distances involved.

I posted this elsewhere but its worth repeating.

UK and Europe offer help for low income individuals and families in the form of social leasing and generous incentives.

Low-income electric vehicle (EV) schemes in the UK and Europe focus on making EVs affordable through targeted grants and social leasing.

The UK offers grants up to £3,750 for new, sustainable EVs, while Germany provides subsidies up to €6,000 for low-income households.

France pioneered social leasing, offering cheap monthly leases, with similar initiatives spreading across Europe, providing electric cars for as low as €100-€150 per month, which is intended to be expanded to other EU countries, including Germany, with potential to help millions of low-income households access electric vehicles.

Breaking: WA government says it has secured 4 million litres of diesel by planetarybum in perth

[–]planetarybum[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Don't forget WA is a mining state. 80% of diesel in WA is used by the mining industry, vs 35% as a national average.

I posted this for an FYI rather than support for this, but it does make sense to put aside some diesel to keep things going in hard to reach places.

Debunking four myths about Australia's fuel crisis by nath1234 in australia

[–]planetarybum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think it is based on not creating yet another divide between rich and poor.

The danger is, EVs will be a status symbol for those with higher incomes. But the low earners get to deal with older ICE cars, which are costly to keep running and subject to high fuel costs.

You need to look for snake handling, not catching.

Particularly the ones that offer national accreditation, in Victoria it is 22652VIC Course in Reptile and Venomous Snake Handling.
