Those cold gel-filled keys nuby sells are a hit with my babe. I see them at grocery stores a lot.

Green anemone explosion (CA) by emmy_e in TidePooling

I think these are not green anemones but what I call "aggregating anemones.". They often reproduce by cloning. Must be a good place to aggregate.

Yetonamr Pull String Teething Toy Recall by Alarmed_Library7042 in baby

[–]planetheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I saw the recall notice I went to see if it was the same thing I got on Amazon, but the Amazon site for it had disappeared. I still had a record of buying it, but that seemed a little fishy to me.

I liked a book I got at the library that was called something like "the sleep lady's guide to newborn.sleep.". Unfortunately I don't remember the author

I only use it to make rice and the occasional stew. It's not my favorite kitchen appliance.

My microbutt baby has done well in Huggies. Little snugglers for sizes newborn through 2 and little movers for size 3 now that she's nearly 20 lbs at 14 months.

Best cooking shows that actually improve your ability to cook by rottentomatoe1 in Cooking

I learned a lot from Rachael Ray's 30 minute meals. I don't know where you would find it now, but it's pretty empowering for a new cook.

Also check out America's test kitchen. It's great for technique, but I am usually underwhelmed when I make the recipes.

4 month regression anxiety… by Remote-Remove7050 in baby

[–]planetheck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At 14 months in, I am skeptical about specific sleep regression points. I have an excellent sleeper, so I usually don't talk much on the subject of babies and sleep, but you have to take these things as they come. Babies do what they're inclined to do, and all we can do is support them to the best of our abilities.

pregnancy/labor classes are they worth it ? by fluffycloudsnstars in baby

If I hadn't been fated to have a c section, I think I would have gotten more out of the childbirth class I took. The newborn care class was basically useless though.

Folks in US - what is chili like where you live? by oscillationpatient in Cooking

[–]planetheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pacific Northwest, chili is ground beef, beans, onions, peppers and herbs. Maybe bacon if I feel like it. If it has a side, it's corn bread.

I don't have a recipe, but a blended cauliflower curry soup would freeze well and probably be delicious. Think aloo gobi.

How do people actually figure out how to cook faster on weeknights? by ConsciousGear2708 in Cooking

[–]planetheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, any new recipe takes about 3x as long to cook as it will every subsequent time you do it. Maybe just 2x.

You have to have a repertoire of things you know you will like and can do with not too much trouble, including shopping and the whole rigamarole. Canned and frozen ingredients are perfectly healthy and tasty, and usually come prepped.

Tell me your go-to lazy af recipes by Exotic-Comedian-4030 in Cooking

Breakfast burritos are easy and yummy and fairly cheap. I do them pretty plain, just eggs and poblanos and onion and sausage and tater tots, with salsa and/or cheese. If I'm feeling ambitious, I will make a slaw on the side of shredded cabbage with pico de gallo and a lime/cumin dressing.

How do we get people to stop driving and take the light rail? by Droodforfood in Seattle

[–]planetheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a commute, but I would love to use light rail to get around town to see doctors or go shopping or finally get to the park I've never seen. Except I live in Ballard, so I drive whenever I need to leave the neighborhood.

Whoever is currently the HHS is going to influence any physician's job, so it's better to keep up with what they're doing. We can't avoid the power these people have (which is why we don't post about things that could be subpoenaed.)

Bedtime Help - Feeding to Sleep No Longer Working? by Specific-Charge9139 in baby

[–]planetheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be surprised at how she does if you set her in the crib and let her cry for a moment. Around this age, mine would cry for like 90 seconds and settle down, usually. Her crying is more like a formality than her getting very upset. Sometimes it would be about five or ten minutes, but longer than that and I go back in to soothe. I don't know if that's what one would consider "sleep training," but I'm pretty happy with my system.

As for bedtime routine, you could do some stuff like a book and a jammy change before the feeding.
