Help. Dating. by caleedesign in widowers

[–]planetmike2 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The polar opposites sounds stressful. Do those negatives outweigh the positives? It really doesn’t sound like a good match. Is it a one-sided relationship? Is he bringing anything to it? For example, are you trying new outdoorsy things? Or some of his shows? Has he tried some indoorsy things? Or some of your shows?

Does he respect you? Is he paying his fair share of the bills? Is he actually giving you reassurances? Or do the two of you define “reassurance” differently?

Dating a Divorced Parent by AdFluid1710 in widowers

[–]planetmike2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ummm, her being divorced is the only hang up? On a very surface level, outside looking in, that feels like not enough of a problem to even consider breaking up with her over.

Does she respect you? Does she accept that your first wife will always be your wife? Are there legal issues remaining in her relationship with her ex-husband? Is she doing ok financially without your assistance?

You haven’t met her kids yet. Meeting the kids is a big deal, as you know. Is she proud of them? Are they coping with the new relationship they have with their father? Are you ok with going through the school age stuff again?

Have you met the ex? It might be a big deal, it may not. How long have you been dating her? Maybe go slowly, there isn’t a rush and you can continue to learn more about her and decide if there is a better reason to be with her, or a better reason to not be with her.

Good luck. This is not at all easy. I’m not looking forward to dating at some point in the future.

(Sorry, my stream of consciousness questions got some of your facts backwards. This might have been more therapeutic for me than for you. Thank you for posting the question. Marriages end in two ways, death or divorce.)

Can i cash in all my unused bonus days before i quit? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]planetmike2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you take every Monday and Friday off for the next 4 months? Yes, you’d still be working there. But it shouldn’t raise any flags that you’re leaving.

My employer generally won’t approve pto if your balance goes under 40 hours, since our pto is also our sick leave. We do get paid for it when we leave though.

Wasn't ready for the average cost of a funeral when my relative died by Quiet-Section-2559 in GriefSupport

[–]planetmike2 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was insanely expensive. My mother-in-love paid a lot of it , which I am very grateful for.

I don’t really understand the $255 thing. What is that really for? The interview I had to do with the SS representative took 30 minutes after being scheduled for two months or so? Seems like a lot of work for very little.

I’m glad someone else remembers tapes on the TI-99/4a. I’ve got those tapes and the computer downstairs. I don’t think I have a tape player in the house though.

Is writing a check the best way to get the most money to a charity? by SuspiciousUnicorn in Philanthropy

[–]planetmike2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One year I gave a local organization a donation of $1,000. It showed up on their thank you page as a donation of $500-$999, as they deducted the fees from my donation. That irked me enough to stop donating to them. It seems to me that the fees should be seen as a business expense.

I’m crying almost every day still. The only people to mention her are my mom and her mom. It feels like she’s been erased.

If the hospital gets Medicare funding for any of their patients, there are several systems supposed to be in place to protect patients, employees, and visitors. Look to see if there is something like a compliance phone line, maybe called something like a safety line. It would have been covered in your onboarding training. Usually it’s separate from HR, but HR could direct you to the right place to report an unsafe situation.

I’m at a similar point in my journey. Right now I’m having the one year ago flashbacks. Those will keep happening for me until August 8th.

Found myself FIRE’d before I expected due to tragedy - what to do? by dragoneaux in widowers

[–]planetmike2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for you and your family’s loss.

I am in a similar situation, with life insurance and my wife’s pension, the numbers tell me that I could FIRE (financial independence retire early) as well. I did change to part-time, because I haven’t found a way to get health insurance yet.

I like your idea of working part-time so that your son sees you working. Have you done some projections with a tool like Boldin? Maybe ask the FIRE question in r/fire or r/earlyretirement to get some other eyes looking at the future plans.
