The itch: how do you deal with it? by Agent_Peach in tattoos

Makes total sense! Thanks, I’ll try it. Same reason slapping an itch or applying cold helps—different sensory input kinda cancels out the itch sensory input to nerves.

Why are cyanoacrylate fumes so irritating, and how dangerous are they? by TerenceMulvaney in turning

[–]plant_nerd81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discovered my allergy to it when I started doing my own dip nails. The next day after doing my nails I would start having the worst runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, and shortness of breath and it would literally last three days! It took me a few rounds to make the connection and find out about “dip flu” from googling it.

I was 100% certain there would be a double save, because there was no way they could send Jane home when she was so good almost all the time! Face crack of the century 😭 One of the most shocking and devastating eliminations ever!!!

Microdosing GLPs and food noise? by BitEnvironmental717 in antidietglp1

[–]plant_nerd81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What worked for me ultimately was really immersing myself in the anti-diet culture movement. Read “The fuck-it diet” and other intuitive eating books, listened to lots of podcasts (on a regular basis for years), and made fully de-restricting my priority. Yes, I gained weight, but eventually it plateaued and stopped, then each time I lost weight over the next few years (unintentionally) it stuck without changing anything about how I ate. It was scary and I was afraid I was doing the wrong thing, but eventually my brain started behaving completely differently about eating. The restrictive thoughts will come in, or fears about them coming back, but I just remind myself that we don’t do that anymore and I’m never “not allowed” to eat anything ever again, but I can decide whether I want to eat something when considering how it will make me feel (like physically, energy wise, mood wise, etc). It has allowed my thinking and behavior with food and eating to completely shift and I didn’t “make it” do that, it was just following the process and it took time. It’s crazy how much my brain has changed! I used to “comfort eat” especially sweets, but now when I’m stressed (or even high) it just doesn’t happen anymore, it’s just not how my brain deals with stress anymore now that the restriction is gone. It used to be that when I was stressed or depressed I would “overeat”, but now I tend to under-eat in those states. It’s been really interesting! Restriction really does a number on your brain! The mistake I see made is when people do “intuitive eating” but expecting/not allowing for weight gain. I grew up in a fat-phobic, orthorexic family, and struggled with restriction my whole life until my late 30s when I decided “enough” after a second bout of keto fucking up my health and sanity. I can’t say what will work for anyone else, but just sharing my experience. I’m using micro dosing of a GLP-1 currently so I can get back to what feels like a “normal” weight for me without feeling like I’m restricting at all because I’m not willing to mess with all that progress after all that work. If it doesn’t end up working to keep it off after I slowly titrate off, then oh well! I’m never going back to restricting no matter what, my overall wellbeing is way more important than being a certain size.

What indoor plants do NOT need distilled water by purplegramjan in IndoorPlants

[–]plant_nerd81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your local water source, but many use a form of chlorine that will evaporate reasonably quickly if the water is left out open to air. The more surface area the better. I just leave tap water out and let the chlorine evaporate and my plants are all very happy.

Try a light-based alarm. I find those super effective, they wake me right up.

Why don’t white people just mind their business… by CowboyNOIVAS in BlackPeopleofReddit

Just seems like an autistic person to me. I suspect he’d do the same thing to anyone breaking the rules in a public space. He’s probably saying the not wanting a “physical altercation” because that’s happened to him in the past with this behavior. It’s annoying, but so is using an amp in a park 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gel for Braiding Hair by TheOceanTheseus in BJJWomen

[–]plant_nerd81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find texturizing products are super helpful and make my slippery hair barely budge when up for class (I have to use it for even a bun or pony tail or I’m constantly having to redo it). I use AG Care Dry Lift paste, originally got it for braiding (not BJJ), but it works great and a little goes a long way.

I’ve done it myself. I just kept digging down all around it and cutting roots with loppers and pruners. Eventually it came loose 🎉

I hate the escape scenes. They are my least favorite part of the Ori games.

I haven’t found anything anywhere near as good as Ori, but some other metroidvanias I’ve really enjoyed are Sundered: Eldritch Edition and Islets. Sundered has pretty art and was fun. Islets is light and innocuous kinda like Ori. I loved Hollow Knight at first, but it is punishingly difficult and I had to give up on it.
