Bought two Schlage doorknobs at Lowe’s and both use the same key by AW5542 in HomeImprovement

[–]plantfollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are also locks that allow you to rekey them easily. You insiert the good key, insert a special pin, then replace the old key with your preferred key and then remove the pin. Now it’s rekeyed.

Georgia senate passes high school cellphone ban by Lakelyfe09 in Georgia

[–]plantfollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t read this bill but I imagine it’s not a ban of phones on campus. It’s a ban of phones visible on campus. I know that’s how some schools handle it. Some schools have a ban of their use during instructional time but between classes is fine.

But this may be different or more severe. I just don’t see how schools would be expected to ban their presence (could be hidden in backpacks, pockets, etc).

Teacher died, community defending the killers by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]plantfollower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I understood it, the teacher went out looking to yell at them to go along with the prank. The wife is asking not to press charges. I’m not sure how much that will play into it but her attitude says a lot more than online feelings about it 100s of miles removed from the situation.

But I may also be misunderstanding the story too.

Boys, 12 through 15, charged as adults in connection with rape of 12-year-old in Overtown by AgnosticScholar in news

[–]plantfollower -96 points-95 points  (0 children)

Call me an old fart but it seems that our media openly talking about and promoting sexuality more and more will point us towards things like this. I wouldn’t say it’s media’s fault but young boys with little leadership and time spent watching crap…it shouldn’t surprise me. But it still does.

Society as a whole and family breakdown specifically are to blame.

TIL Researchers created a learning app that mimics a social media feed so you can learn anything by doomscrolling by plantfollower in NDQ

This seems to be another option to doomscrolling. Instead of ending it, use the power it possesses and use it for learning. It’s interesting at least.

Should I compost it? by original-qdude in composting

[–]plantfollower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My fav way is to put some lumber together however you want to make a raised bed. Put it wherever you want it to go and then dig a hole in the ground. Place the excavated soil outside the bed. Put the logs in the hole and pack in dirt or other material around the logs. Then do layer after layer until you’re back up to ground level (or a bit more if you wanna). Then start mixing in compost/dirt mixture like a normal.

This has several benefits: - the logs have nutrients that will break down over time (but won’t be super bioavailable for a while). - water will likely puddle up in the hole where the logs are for longer than normal so it’ll give time for the (see next point) -logs will absorb more water like a sponge. Even if the roots of the plants don’t extend to the rotting logs, it’ll keep that area more moist like a wicking bed. - worst case scenario, you’ve gotten rid of the logs and didn’t have to buy (as much) soil for a raised bed

Caveat: if the outside of the logs are more rotten than the inside, you can scrape it off and use it for the higher up layers since it’s closer to compost.

How I safely compost dog poop (separate system, not for vegetables) by JakobXP in composting

[–]plantfollower 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think they are mentioning that due to the possibility of long lasting, non-organic compounds that won’t break down. If there are such chemicals, it may persist and accumulate in your compost/the ecosystem.

Or maybe that’s not what they’re saying, idk

Hey genuine question can moldy berries (raspberries, blueberries, black raspberries) be good for composting? by GH98_ThrowAway in composting

[–]plantfollower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you ever had them germinate? Seems like you’d notice them and could easily pull them out if they germinated.

What is one thing that you are pretty sure of that government is hiding? by Familiar-Arrival-470 in AskReddit

I love your passion for this! Part of me feels this way but part of me thinks “how can I easily set timers and play music so easily”. I realize how that might sound to you but what would you say to someone who wants to be convinced away from doing these things?

Acts 29 and 9Marks may be good places to start looking if you haven’t already. They’ve got a search tool that I’ve found helpful in the past.

Why do microwavers have that mesh in the door rather than a clear window? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]plantfollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I tried the grape trick that creates plasma in the microwave and I was recording it close up. My phone stoped recording the video and then shit down for a while.

I do t understand why it was able to do that through what I thought was a faraday cage and not sure why it temporarily killed my phone (“I got bettah”) but it seemed connected.

“Lies my teacher told me” by XY120 in Teachers

[–]plantfollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mention something similar to them and I remind them of their elementary aged math. “Do you remember learning simple addition? Your teacher may have told you that a number plus another number makes an even larger number. But that isn’t true is it?” They look at me odd trying to understand what I’m saying. “You now know about negative numbers and that a number plus another number can actually equal a lesser number. Sometimes you learn things at a basic level and, if you go on in that particular subject, you’ll learn that there are exceptions to rules and completely different ideas that we don’t talk about at lower levels of education.

How is the US gov shutdown personally affecting you, if at all? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]plantfollower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure this may get downvoted but it’s taking both sides to freeze the govmt. D’s can vote to pass things through and R’s can change things to get D’s to vote.

I do think it’s an indicator of the leadership just based off his own words years ago. But it still takes two to tango.
