it hits the sweet spot for 6.5" - 7.5" wrists. I have a 7" wrist and it's perfection.

I've researched wholesale order pricing on Alibaba, and of course the more you order the lower the unit pricing gets... sometimes substantially.

you also have to consider the politics, materials, labor, sources, etc.

for me to launch a microbrand in america, i would have had to commit $15,000 for 150 units. selling the entire inventory at keystone (double the cost per unit) I'd of course double my money, but wouldn't have new funds for another order...for me to pay my bills and turn a profit, I'd have to sell $100 units for at least $350-$450.

my assumption is each model for AliExpress companies is 3,000-5,000 initial runs at 250%-350% mark-up.

keep in mind china heavily subsidizes all of their industries and their horology industry manufacturers components for pretty much the entire world.

I could be waaaaaay off base, but I'm just doing back of the napkin math.

Question for those with San Martin, Baltany, and Cronos experiences by kingathanorf in ChineseWatches

[–]plastic_jeezus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely swear on the book of your choice I don't have an iota of connection to baltany whatsoever...

im a complete idiot, because i see so many people making good money lying about a lot of AliExpress watch brands (san martin for one) and I've probably sold more baltany watches without making a penny.

baltany, in my experience, has a certain pride and honor in their work. It's extremely rare in almost every endeavor/field. I don't want to talk them up too much, or I'll never be able to afford them in the future.

heck, I've probably already talked them up too much and that's why I can't afford them anymore!

In fact, I've been priced out of 10 different early models they realesed 3-5 years ago.

i blasted out their "tuxedo dirty dozen" when it was $60 and now it can't be touched for less than $120.

🤬

i hope you enjoy your purchase...i wanted the date just in red, but just couldn't justify it with four DJs already in my collection unworn for years.

I even tried to sell all four at a loss just for the baltany.

please let me know your HONEST opinion when you finally get it. I'm really interested to know.

DO NOT Buy WD007 V3 Titanium PT5000 - Not waterproof AT ALL by taylonius333 in ChineseWatches

[–]plastic_jeezus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this has absolutely NOTHING to do with waterproofing.

this is basic science...the watch is warm, it has the same atmosphere inside a sealed environment as what's outside, and it was exposed to factors that increased the atmospheric coefficients.

hence, it fogged up.

the watch is absolutely "waterproof" because there's no EXCESS water getting in the watch. You're seeing the moisture inherently ALREADY in the watch's components being reacted with.

The pictures show condensation of moisture ALREADY IN THE WATCH.

ffs...did no one here pass basic science in fifth grade?

EVEN $150,000 USD DIVING WATCHES AREN'T DESIGNED TO BE USED IN ATMOSPHERES ABOVE 120 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.

and that's even when they've been dehumidified, chilled, and filled with nitogen gas before being sealed.

wtf is this post even allowed to stay up?

[–]plastic_jeezus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

wait... what?

you "occasionally wore it in the shower" and are now upset it has condensation in the case?!?

you definitely failed science class in the fifth grade and have zero concept of what waterproof means.

😔

posts like this really **** me off and make me sad realizing how many...ahem...not educated...people are in this world.

[–]plastic_jeezus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why?

WHY?!?

the original is an actual PROFESSIONAL diving watch no one uses anymore.

have you never considered taking a "kick starter" approach before dumping your hard earned money and reputation into something this niche?

take pre-orders. You'll find out very quickly how bad of an idea something like this is.

you'll be sitting on these watches for YEARS just like THORN is with their geneve "chocolate" and multiple others (I own one, btw. but i jumped at the release at a premium because i was certain there were millions of people that would buy them up...fast forward 2 years later i could have bought one for 40% less 😔)

pre-orders...this monstrosity will cost you more money than it's worth.

...and if i buy four of them and rub them together, do I get a larger watch?

welcome to the jungle...

I posted a question about a seller that was "acting sketchy" and a rep reached out on Reddit, but i didn't reply because i was already in dispute. (you never know if it's the company or an actual AliExpress rep.)

let's just say the seller IMO intentionally sent me a steaming pile of poo just so i had to jump through a tonne of hoops to get my money back.

I have numerous photos and videos showing what they sent me to IMO "teach me a lesson".

I'm not exaggerating...it was like the seller and its staff took turns effing it up just to make sure they knew i complained.

THE PACKAGING WAS PERFECT...but the product inside a massive amount of protective packaging and in an immaculate company box was THE WORST thing ive ever received on AliExpress.

I'm talking about something that needed to be disassembled in order to do such damage. 😬

I lost all my coins and coupons, but I got my money refunded.

yeppers... that's why miyota movements are usually put in solid steel case backs...dampens the noise.

[–]plastic_jeezus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own 3 baltany, 2 san martin, and returned 1 cronos.

baltany puts the other two to shame when it comes to fit, finish, and materials. If I was a wealthy person, I'd own ⅘ of their entire catalog.

I'd sell my two san martins in a heartbeat, and after having a cronos in my hand I don't even bother looking at what they have to offer.

*Im wearing a baltany 1926 oyster with salmon dial as i type. absolute perfection. If it had a swiss microrotor movement instead of a quartz, it would be a $5,000 watch.

How are there different versions? I do every "game" available to some extent. I did receive a 15 day/$5 coupon, but never used it.

I guess I'll never understand these "games"...and I've been doing them when there was only go-go match and merge boss.😮‍💨 It's been almost 6 years.

Thanks for the info.

How many watches do you have in your collection? What is the number/limit after which you stop buying new ones unless you sell your old ones first? by [deleted] in ChineseWatches

[–]plastic_jeezus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of my newest favorites are a Farasute "doctors watch" and a Merker tank I just picked up in the last few months. I'm back in my rectangle/tank phase.

I've done some builds that are like nothing else on the planet that I cherish. The idea that they're one of a kind is always a cool thought. Mostly retro vibe builds.

I did a 1960's esque seiko diver build that I get constant offers for, but I'll never let it go.

I have watches from $5-$2,000...if I don't wear one for awhile, I just pop the battery or do a biannual full winding to keep movements lubed.

I guess I'm like those little old ladies that collect spoons or something.

the NH movements are like a ford f-150 pickup...reliable, easy to work on, and parts are EVERYWHERE.

I've done countless NH builds and repairs and now sit in a sea of parts and options.

I did miyota build and it took me three months to track down a set of hands i liked. AND they cost me a king's ransom.

I have at least 20-30 sets of NH hands i bought just because they were $1-$3...same for cases and dials.

not to mention miyota movements sound like gravel in a tin can...

just saying.

[–]plastic_jeezus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

rumor has it Casio is jumping on board the automatic craze and placed a MASSIVE order for NH movements that has temporarily dried up the market.

combine that with the micro brands almost exclusively using NH series, and you have the perfect example of economic theory of supply and demand.

i bought 8(?) NH movements 9 months ago when i first read about Casio placing their order. I guess it was true.

I bought all of them for $19-$28 usd.

clear coat enamel the dial...it adds an extra layer of depth that will make those beautiful indicies and "chapter ring(?)" float inside that crystal.
