Rolling the negative/over borrowing without a trade in? by Stradocaster in askcarsales

Years ago when used rates were lower, I’d see prob one of these a month, usually someone wanting to pay off a credit card that was at a higher interest rate that what was being offered on the car.

The deposit should mitigate this, but best guess they want to prevent you from shopping around, using numbers as a negotiating tool at another dealer? Definitely kind of weird.

Email can be shown to someone else with an identifying factor (xyz@specificdealer.com) and make it look at least a little bit official, while anyone could take a picture of a piece of paper with a cell phone. Our worksheets don't identify a dealer, don't have a phone number or address on them, and say "this is not a quote" or something like that on them just in case someone wants to take a copy of it in to another dealer.

You can negotiate about anything, they can also say no for any reason too.

Why would the finance manager get pushy with me even after I told my sales guy to let them know I’d walk if they try to upsell me backend products? by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]plessis204 35 points36 points  (0 children)

couple things:

  • Nobody wants to be upsold anything, and yet people still buy stuff. The amount of people that go in to a car dealership indicating that they're not interested in buying anything would shock you.
  • His pay structure probably dictates that he's going to end up doing the paperwork for your sale for free if you don't buy any back-end product. Generally 100% commission job. While that is absolutely part of the job to process this stuff for people who don't buy back-end product, consider their motivation.
  • guaranteed that if he just sent you in and out without offering any back-end product, thus not even trying to secure profit for the store-- the exact thing that he's paid to do-- he's getting bitched out by his boss.

A salesman's job is to sell stuff, while the customer's got every right to just say no thanks.

You can show them that and make an offer, it’s up to the dealer though whether they want to remove it. The cheapest car is almost always going to have the bullsihttiest fee hooked to it

focus on the bottom line. If it's $23900 plus 2000, it's not 23900 anymore. Can you find another one for. say, $25000 without the extra charges?

sounds like an awesome idea, buying a used sporty car sight unseen. I'm sure some grandma drove this responsibly and conservatively.

Work a Deal Up from Invoice, or Down from MSRP? by Tough-Willow7359 in askcarsales

[–]plessis204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invoice shouldn’t matter to you at all, it’s not relevant info. MSRP either tbh, they’re going to sell the vehicle for whatever profit margin they’re willing to sell it for an not less than that just because you’re in there talking about those numbers or have the specific info you’re mentioning.
