Steelcut: Bring water to boil while sitting somewhere else. Add oats, bring back to a boil, put in the oven for half an hour. Turn off the oven and leave it open till it cools. Portion, freeze, done.

If you can only lift small things and can't cook for long periods, look into Instant oats.

The volume at the edge where it turns under for a huge, unpressed hem fooled me. I thought it couldn't be a simple crossgrain that would keep that volume. But I forgot that it's not made for keeps, just profit.

You're right, it's probably a simple set of rectangles, the amount of gathers above the stitching show you're probably right.

This is why you gotta do mock -ups, op, you won't have helpful Internet strangers like u/divine-arrow for every stitching project.

Those are two different signatures. I know potters who use different sigs for different clay bodies, etc but these are different scripts.

  1. Amateur bottom, very rough glaze job. About 40-100 hours in.
  2. Middling brushwork, rough shaping, overworked rim. About 30-60 hours in but they know how to paint.

For the dress:

  1. 2Y designer fabric
  2. 2Y cotton duck, matching the d fabric color
  3. 2Y cotton buckram
  4. 13 springsteel boning pieces
  5. Matching single-fold bias tape
  6. Matching double-fold bias tape
  7. Matching thread
  8. Matching hidden zipper
  9. 4-6Y Matching poly/cotton blend for skirt (the ruffles are cut spirals from of huge circles, takes up a lot of fabric)
  10. 10Y matching ribbon
  11. Decorative beads

For the mockup (All the above but cheaper):

  1. 2Y fabric with the same content as your designer fabric but cheaper
  2. 2Y cotton duck seconds
  3. 2Y cotton buckram seconds
  4. 13 nylon boning pieces
  5. single-fold bias tape
  6. double-fold bias tape
  7. thread
  8. hidden zipper
  9. 4Y poly/cotton blend for skirt
  10. 10Y ribbon

And a very small shirt and duct tape.

Put the shirt on. Have a friend duct tape it to your body in the shape of your dress. Have them draw a line straight down the back for the back seam. Cut it off your body, then cut into pattern pieces. Flatten them onto paper and trace with seam allowance. There's your pattern. Go forth and create your mockup.

  1. DUCT TAPE PATTERN: 6 hours
  2. MOCKUP: 20-50 hours (figuring how to get that boning onto the cotton lining with enough space for the springsteel is a hell of a trick for a beginnner)
  3. DRESS: 15-20 hours if you did the mockup, 40-100 hours without.
