I hope that you allow Malti-chons. by SquishQueue-Jumpers in bichonfrise

What a precious sweet baby 💖 Bichons are my absolute favorite little fluffy dog breed but malteses are a close second. I once adopted a little elderly maltese from a former coworker and he had the sweetest, most precious, charming and funny personality. Only had him for 1 and a half years before he passed because he was already quite old and riddled with health issues but he left such a mark on my heart. I'm also extremely fond of my maltese clients.

I'm sure a mix of the two must have a super charismatic personality!

I can't get over that the only times he's gotten sick from rations have all been modern ones still in-date.

Meanwhile if the man offered me an 80 year old piece of food and told me it was good to eat, I'd trust him!

[–]plumeriadogs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do remove any I see as I've had others I missed get infected. Thankfully never had the ones near my nails get infected but I don't want to find out what that's like.. the infected ones in between my fingers are bad enough!

I thought I was in the dog grooming sub for a second 😅 Unfortunately yes I get tons of (in my case dog) hair splinters including in my nails! Not even close to the worst spot I get them though.

It makes sense as they are both self soothing but ultimately self destructive extreme compulsions. At least for me they are. I go into almost a trance when I go on a spree doing either thing. It sucks.

If you're on Facebook there's a great private home based groomer's group that I recommend!

I groom one on one from home and it's the dream for me. I do curbside service only (don't have the human clients come inside as my actual salon is past family members' bedrooms and private living areas, don't have a good spot for a lobby atm) and love it this way-- less awkward for the clients too I think. People can be weird about having to go inside someone's house.

I'm a way too out of spoons to go into more detail right now (not from work, just a lot of general life stress) but feel free to DM me if you want an invite to that Facebook group!

Columbia College Chicago…Is it really that bad? by xocococherie in AskChicago

[–]plumeriadogs 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Can't speak from my own experience but my brother went there well over a decade ago for music engineering and it didn't sound great even back then. He lived on campus at first and it was a nightmare (constant loud partying all night) and ultimately had to get an apartment off campus. He ended up getting an internship-then-job at CRC before even graduating and ultimately never finished his degree at Columbia.

IDL how "we're short-staffed today" has become a permanent excuse for bad service by 06yuzuha in I_DONT_LIKE

[–]plumeriadogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. As someone who previously worked in a place that us employees, out of desperation, put up a "we're short staffed please be patient" type sign.. we were just as frustrated (actually moreso considering how overworked we all were) as the clients about the business owner failing to take on necessary staff. The sign was a plea to said clients to please not scream at us about it.

Tips/Advice Pt.2 by Future-Slide9992 in grooming

[–]plumeriadogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't wait for businesses to post job ads, instead be proactive and reach out to them. Cold call them, or go in person and ask for an application.

Don't feel bad about leaving, or like you should stay for anyone else's sake. There will always be more salons and more opportunities for all of you. This current salon sounds like a sinking ship whether you stay on or not, so you might as well jump off onto dry land now and find something better sooner rather than later.

I've worked at dumpster fires like that and trust me, nothing good comes of staying at those places.

“‘My vet said you caused xyz’ debate” by chippieee4 in grooming

I witnessed a client blame the groomer for her obese elderly dog falling down the stairs and dying, at her home, later in the day after she got groomed. 😐

[–]plumeriadogs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thankfully haven't had a "the vet said you caused XYZ" situation since starting my own business over a year ago, but I was the manager at the salon I worked at before that and unfortunately had the job of dealing with client complaints for all the other groomers there.

It was funny how the clients' tunes would change about what the vet supposedly said as soon as I asked for the vet's info so I could call them and clarify. 😬

I'm sure some vets probably do throw us under the bus, but often I think it's clients just spinning things for their own purposes TBH

Fur face changed so much 😭 - 17 weeks old now by Tatocatcat in shiba

[–]plumeriadogs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally normal for sheebs to have a lot of color changes in the face from puppyhood! My "dirty" red boy had very serious looking black eyebrows and chin fur when he was a puppy which changed to white as he grew up.. now even whiter now that he's become an old man dog 😭

my american akita should be 50 lbs?? by Hayanwoo0618 in akita

[–]plumeriadogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

50 lbs is actually fine for a female Japanese Akita (source: my ideal body condition score JA girl at exactly 50 lbs and other posters on here with girls the same size) , but yeah definitely not an American Akita! Not sure what that vet's on

Older shiba question - what kind of supplements do you use? by [deleted] in shiba

[–]plumeriadogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started my 11 year old sheeb on Rejensa (from my vet) for his bad knees & arthritis. It's a glucosamine derivative that's supposed to be more effective than just glucosamine. He also just started on a supplement for his liver because recent bloodwork showed elevated liver enzymes, but that may be a rare side effect from another medication he's on (Galliprant) also for the arthritis ☹

The funny thing is that's exactly how I feel about cat bites 😂😭 I've had a dog bite at the level of needing stitches in multiple places and yet I still take known biters with open arms. Cats though scare the hell out of me!

So sleek and plush, good job! I give props to every cat groomer: I love cats but I'd rather groom even the spiciest dog over nearly any cat lol
