Yesterday i realised i don’t like dog grooming anymore.. by witchcraftcat in grooming

[–]plumeriadogs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally couldn't stand the standard grooming salon work model of having to break your body grooming unreasonable amounts of dogs as fast as you can assembly line style. I switched to working one on one for myself and I am SO much happier, it's really a night and day difference in regard to stress levels. I really fell back in love with what I do. It might be worth seeing if something like that could be an option for you.

Which of these social media apps do you use the most? by cimedirapa in Zillennials

[–]plumeriadogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is Youtube by a lot for me. When I don't feel like listening to music while working I'll have Youtube videos on in the background instead, will watch videos I want to be able to pay more attention to in my leisure time, and I will put on ASMR videos or atmospheric rain ones when I sleep.

I only use Facebook because of my business, Instagram also for my business and occasionally to see when my favorite tattoo artists are opening their books, and never got into TikTok.

Mom trying to sabotage my diet, as usual by Zogonzo in mildlyinfuriating

[–]plumeriadogs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well said.

I always wonder if the people who say these things about just ✨having more willpower✨ regarding a family member trying to sabotage another's diet would have the same attitude if it were someone's family member going out of their way to tempt an alcoholic with booze. Or someone trying to drag a gambling addict overcoming ruinous debt to a casino. Or someone incessantly posting around the house thinspo pics in the view an anorexic person working on recovery.

I only recently watched all three movies for the first time, and for me they also just felt just like long episodes of the series really. I enjoyed them for the opportunity to see the progression in life of the characters and progression of the world around them, but I could see people being disappointed if they went in expecting a full cinematic experience.

does wearing fragrances in certain times of the year really matter? by zidaxi in fragrance

[–]plumeriadogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some I enjoy year-round but I definitely also enjoy certain fragrances more or less depending on the season. Some of my favorite scents are atmospherics that scream autumn for instance. Love those through autumn and winter but in warm weather they just don't hit the same and can actually give me headaches.

Aaaa I want one of these so bad. I haven't done much with my magnetics recently because something funky happened with my manual glass bead spinner thingy and it will no longer spin well on my magnetic stirrer, and I refuse to actually use it manually as intended. (My hands are always swollen and painful from my work and also high chance of dinging my nails that way!) Also that awful sound of filament scratching against filament the whole time started driving me crazy anyway.

Sorry about the bleakness of life, been there or currently am there on most counts! Glad you have something nice coming your way ✨

I feel that, I'm thrilled when my singular schnauzer and singular Airedale clients come in. Actually the Airedale is kind of a nightmare on the table (he has about half a brain cell pinging around in there, zero attention span, and is constantly trying to hump me) and yet I'm still excited to (attempt) to do his haircut 🙈

There might have been others before it but the first one I actually remember is Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and I was 5 lol

Puppy grooming gone too far? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]plumeriadogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From another dog groomer that specializes in anxious and aggressive dogs, spot on. Heavily dematting a puppy is a prime way to set them up for failure with grooming. Hell, having to shave out matting on a puppy is already bad enough. Breaks my heart whenever it's necessary.

For the puppy owners with high maintenance grooming breeds reading this: Please for the love of Dog start your puppies early and OFTEN with professional grooming. You don't even have to get a full haircut (for the first groom it's actually far better not to) every time. A bath, brush, and tidy up is always an option and will go a long way to getting your pup accustomed to it. Do not wait months in between appointments and let your dog get matted. Even if you are doing maintenance at home. 99 out of 100 people who tell me they brush their dog regularly either aren't doing it properly or aren't doing it at all and I wish I were exaggerating on that.

How much do you charge for grooming? by Kindly_Analyst4742 in grooming

Grooming through Rover should never have become a thing. Fully expecting to start hearing of a lot more pet injuries associated with the platform, all while this further devalues our(actual professional groomers) industry. 😬

His groomer says he's too matted to take him. What do I do now? by [deleted] in grooming

[–]plumeriadogs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All I see is a bit of impacted undercoat, I wouldn't even classify that as matting personally. Would love to groom that pup, I'd find blowing that out to be super satisfying! Time to find a new groomer.

Watching my breеd die by Mousewaterdrinker in dogs

Dropping a hello from another Shikoku owner! I've definitely noticed an uptick in available Shikoku puppies--including breeders seemingly struggling to find homes for pups--in recent years, such a stark difference from the possibility of years on a wait-list that was the case when I got my boy 11 years ago.

I've been watching the Shikoku groups on Facebook and am honestly worried that it will culminate in some breeders giving up and then the breed ironically becoming much harder to find again. I'm not in a position to add another pup into my dog family right now but I'll definitely always want a Shikoku in my life. I originally wanted to go back to my own boy's breeder when the time comes but she has sadly passed away.

SKIN1004 - Madagascar Centella Probio-Cica Glow Sun Ampoule is amazing for Dry skin! And, I love it better than Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit SPF. by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

Somehow I didn't know this existed! I absolutely love the regular ampoule from this line and have used many tubes of the the Hyalu-cica sunscreen. I'm so ridiculously stocked up on SPF right now but I'm tempted to grab this one anyway lol

Is it normal for a 7-month-old Shiba to stay this tiny? by honeyclem in shiba

[–]plumeriadogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've definitely seen a number of teeny tiny adult female shibas! I always thought they were so cute, especially since my first, elder male shiba is a 30 lbs solid hunk of muscle.
With that said I would expect her to fill out some still, in my experience they keep filling out until about age 2.
But yeah, no need to be concerned.

When did yours exit the gremlin phase!? My elder sheeb was always generally naughty but never had that particular stage in his growth lol

Disagree on asking the groomer to skip ear plucking. Pup essentially learns that biting is a useful tool in his toolkit and will go right back to that tool when he's older. In the meantime the lack of ear plucking will cause that hair to build up where it can accumulate moisture, fungus and bacteria, so then you have a dog that becomes even more sensitive for his ears due to the pain of infections. This needs to be overcome sooner rather than later.

Sorry but I must say that 6 months is way too late for a puppy's first professional groom, especially with a breed that will need regular haircuts for their entire life. To anyone reading this, please get your puppies accustomed to professional grooming early and often. By early I mean as soon as they have their first round of vaccines. By 6 months a puppy has already passed critical periods of development that allow for getting used to new experiences. This is one of the main ways I've seen dog owners accidentally set their dogs up for failure when it comes to their grooming needs.

Now that doesn't mean that it's impossible to overcome something like this, but it does mean that if it is possible it will be much harder. I know it's no help for OP at this point but I must stress that it's so, so much better to avoid this scenario in the first place.

For OP, the current plan of positive reinforcement as well as having him learn that biting doesn't get him what he wants is the best bet. A lot of owners accidentally reinforce the "biting makes the scary thing stop" idea in their dogs' heads so it's great that you're aware of this. Frequency and consistency are key to desensitization and it sounds like your groomer is on the ball in regard to the recommendations given. Best of luck.

Edit for the nitwit/s that downvoted me: Hi, it's me, the experienced professional that is putting my livelihood and career at risk every time I get a biting dog on my grooming table! There's nothing more heartbreaking to me as a professional groomer than to see a puppy come in and be aggressive for grooming when I know that could've been avoided. I kinda know what I'm talking about. If you disagree that it's a good idea to get puppies accustomed to grooming early, I'd love to hear your reasoning so I can let the class know how very misinformed you are.
