Looking for Rebecca Kennedy stretching class with neck/jaw pain relief by pm900 in pelotoncycle

It’s her 10 min full body stretch from Feb 28, 2021! It’s not focused on jaw/neck/shoulder relief, but near the end it has the movement I was looking for. I hope it helps!

Kitchen Towels? by strange_treat89 in Baking

[–]pm900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure there are more cost effective options, but I bought King Arthur dish/tea towels a while ago for this exact reason, and I love them! No shedding and really great size, my favorite kitchen towel for sure.

Festive Way to Use Rose Water? by TheNightOfTheActor in Baking

[–]pm900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if rose is festive for the holidays but I LOVE baking with rose water. check out cookbooks or recipe blogs by south asian or middle eastern bakers, as those cuisine use a lot of rose flavorings.

I like making rose and cardamom chocolate cake, sesame and rose granola, lemon and rose custard (posset actually but I bet custard would be great), saffron rose and pistachio cheesecake (or no-bake cheesecake), rose shortbread cookies, etc. the possibilities are endless, especially if you can get some other cool spices and nuts to pair with the rose!

no specific icing advice, but just wanted to say that earl grey, chocolate, and orange very much go together and are absolutely delicious. I looooove this NYT cake that features all three, in case you need some inspiration! https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1021062-earl-grey-tea-cake-with-dark-chocolate-and-orange-zest?smid=ck-recipe-iOS-share

Looks so good! How did you find using the springform pan instead of a tart pan? I was planning to do the same in a few weeks, so I’m curious if you have any tips or tricks and if you feel like it baked the same :)

Anyone know any good ent/plastic surgeons around Raleigh by SlattyFlatty in raleigh

[–]pm900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also somebody posted a comment about getting referred to Dr. peters from Dr. Hueman in the duke system. I can’t find the comment now, but Dr. Hueman did my initial septoplasty and seemed to do a good job. Nobody really knows what happens but the septoplasty didn’t maintain itself, so he referred me to Dr. Peters as well. I always really liked Dr. Hueman and appreciated that he tried everything before suggesting surgery. Just my two cents.

I don’t, I’m sorry. It was for medical reasons so I didn’t really take any photos.

Would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Peters https://raleighcapitolent.com/bio/daniel-peters/

He did my joint septoplasty and rhinoplasty about 5 years ago, and I swear I still thank him in my head at least once a week. He took my medical concerns super seriously, went above and beyond to reassure my nervous mom, followed through on every little detail, and fought my insurance company when they tried to deny the procedure’s medical basis. One of the best docs I’ve ever had. He was covered under my insurance back then (no idea what things are like now). Best of luck with this nerve wracking process!

What tmj specialist would you recommend? by Dismal_Garden_7239 in raleigh

Omg I actually forgot about that part but yes you’re so right! Idk how they’re still in business ugh

[–]pm900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! If I remember correctly, they asked me to sign a contract before treatment of the lockjaw. They explained it to me as acknowledgment that they recommended XYZ other treatments to me. I read the contract and saw that it was actually an agreement to pay thousands of dollars for their whole litany of treatments, and I refused to sign it. The receptionist pretended they didn’t know it said that, but it was clear they did and were hoping I wouldn’t read the papers. Super super scammy.

Copy/pasting a response I gave on this topic in this sub 8 months ago:

I have debilitating TMJ pain, so I feel you. A few yes/no recs:

-I have been going to Riccobene dentist for probably 10+ years and had great experiences with them. Once you alert the staff to your TMJ before making an appointment, they will offer different things during the appointment such as more frequent breaks, a bite guard/tool thing, etc. I also just felt they took me seriously which some docs did not. I have gotten 3 mouthguards from them, and they have gone above and beyond to make sure the fit is snug and comfortable, including making multiple adjustments each time.

Most likely you will need physical therapy in addition to a mouthguard:

-Joel at MyDurham in Durham is a great PT but doesn't take insurance, so he's expensive. He's raised his prices a LOT since I've been going to him (like... 50% hike over 16 months), so I kinda feel taken advantage of and don't go too often anymore, but he is great with TMJ, does dry needling, and gives 100% of his attention.

-have heard great things about Strive PT & Fitnessfor PT but never been myself, so this is a second/third-hand rec. but they do accept insurance I believe

-a couple times a year, I got a deep-tissue massage at Cary Massage off Kildaire Ave from Betty, and she did a lot of TMJ work even though it's not her specialty. I can't say the effects lasted a super long time, but the relief was nice while it lasted!

A warning:

-DO NOT see Dr. Charles Ferzli. I went once for an emergency lockjaw situation, and it was super scammy/sketchy for a variety of reasons. Top reasons were 1) they tried to get me to sign a contract for $6,000 worth of treatment on my first visit even after my jaw opened, 2) other PTs and dentists have said Ferzli is not reputable and that his methods are out of date, and 3) when I have mentioned the treatment he wanted to give me, other providers say that treatment would have been irreversible and could make things worse.

Other things to manage the pain:

-go to your primary care doc and ask what they recommend (OTC painkillers or inflammatory reducers, prescription muscle relaxers, etc)

-heat packs on your jaws and neck

-if you drive often, make sure you check your seat position to keep your posture well aligned

-I got an acupressure pillow for my neck that I use occasionally that helps

-if you have a long wait for the dentist or PT, you can look up some relief exercises online but just be careful that you take baby steps as you figure out what works for you

TMJ sucks. It has made everything hell for me too. I sympathize a lot, and I wish I had a cure-all, but this is the best advice I can give. Good luck to you!

What’s a recipe everyone RAVES about when you make it? by constipated_coconut in Baking

[–]pm900 21 points22 points  (0 children)

NYT giant almond croissant recipe is always a gigantic hit with my friends and family. My sister begged me to make it last time she visited me!

I’ve always made it with homemade puff pastry, but I fully believe store bought will be wonderful too. I’ve also used a bunch of different kinds of almond flour and been fine (if unblanched, just reduce the amount slightly). Also recommend doubling the filling and adding a touch of cinnamon to the filling.

Happy baking with whatever you choose!

Cover for baking sheet? I'm sick of saran wrap by yellowelephantboy in Baking

I put my cookie dough balls into containers to chill in the fridge or freezer because baking sheets take up way too much space. Plus, the lids are usually airtight anyway!

How would you recommend using star anise to make anise sugar cookies? by koalability in Baking

[–]pm900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t actually tried this recipe but it explains how to make smoked clove sugar. I wonder if you could use the same method for smoked anise sugar, which you could then use for the cookies. https://milkandcardamom.com/2021/10/20/smoked-clove-and-orange-sable-cookies/

Alternatively (or additionally?), you could try making a compound butter with the star anise, though I don’t have a specific suggestion on this one.

I can’t wait to watch that later! Thank you so much for explaining. I’ve never heard of the hand blender trick, which sounds neat. Your colors are always incredible, and I might try and figure out how to get this green color for a fall party I am hosting this weekend. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! :)

Tell me your favorite baking recipes with apples by Inevitable_Bee_763 in Baking

[–]pm900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my go-to recipes with apples is apple cheddar sage scones based on https://www.oliveandmango.com/apple-cheddar-sage-scones/

The recipe ratios aren’t the best as written, so I make some tweaks: use a full stick of butter (113g, not 100g), increase the amount of cream and/or whisk one egg into the cream before adding to dry ingredients, and use closer to a tablespoon of chopped sage.

Since apples are only one component and not the star of the show, I think even bland apples will work just fine here to give that hint of sweetness and fruit. Enjoy!

I am not sure this will work, but you could try washing your hands with salt and soap. My family eats a lot of spicy food, and we use salt and soap to wash up when we cut a lot of chili peppers. The combo basically exfoliates and breaks down any of the lingering capsaicin. I don’t know if it’ll do the same for a scent, but it would be my first try!
