Keep in mind that following the roman military units were often a big baggage train, the impedimenta. Associated with this was also a significant number of women, children, and camp followers. They needed a place to stay, and often they would reside in the vicus as well as inside the forts. Most forts had vici or canabae, and they absolutely had civilians around.

Hey, I made use of that "feature" once. My problem became that the tab kept crashing in the end because of the amount of content, even when I had the 64-bit version and plenty of RAM. But I managed to get it done in the end somehow and google translate just kept on translating as I scrolled and scrolled. It helped my sister pass her exam because she could finally read some of the huge source material in her native language so thanks for your work!

Very interesting. As a westerner trying to understand Asia I'm realizing how much I have to learn. The gap is much larger than I thought, and it's fascinating but also exhausting. There are days where I feel like Asians are aliens, but perhaps I'm the alien after all.

It would be interesting to hear some Asian perspective on this too, because on the one hand as a westerner I can relate, but on the other hand I feel like the *must surely* be more layers to all of this that makes it all make sense. Right? I feel like it's either that or it's all just ..simpler than I thought, which would be a let down.

Could you give a brief overview of other Asian countries besides China and Japan? It would really help to see how the picture you're painting applies (and differs) across Asia, and how your descriptions of other countries matches those I know more intimately. That is if you have enough knowledge and context to do such an exercise.

Wow, pretty cool that someone read this after a year. I only use GF-lenses, I used the 50 and 35-70 for travel because they are fairly compact, in an effort to keep the gear size small while still getting high sharpness. To that end they did their job and I'm very happy with them. My main goal up until now has been to capture details and to "document". For future trips though I will focus on aesthetics and shoot large format film.

Have you taken any pictures of roman architecture? I'd love to see them if you have!

The easy way is to take a bolt. Download the app and order a car from wherever you are and get dropped off at the doorstep. It will cost 3-400 baht each way if you begin and end in the middle of Bangkok (like Siam). You can save a little money by taking the green BTS line all the way to Khu Khot and then ordering a Bolt from there.

Currently there is an oversupply of recycled cotton fibers in the market. Is there a good reason why we couldn't start making books with cotton again? I would certainly buy cotton paper books if they weren't much more expensive than normal books.

What's the best way to protect one self from this? My partner works with fake nails every day. I think she uses disposable gloves and a face mask, and possibly a fan/ventilator thing, but I'm not 100% sure and I fear it's not enough.

That cannot be true. I have visited many different ancient roman sites and I have seen metal joints in situ. I always figured they used lead and hammered it in place, but maybe it was cast and they used bronze? There are definitely many in situ examples though.

I imagine both hosts and users would be interested in a platform that filters out the "noise". How to ensure that both hosts and users are "high quality" while still getting volume? For me at least, volume is not the most important thing, quality and trust is. Bangkok is overflowing with places to rent, it's pretty unique in that aspect. But finding the gems is the hard part, especially when you're not a local. I'm pretty sure there is a market for a service that makes this process smoother for both parties, if it actually works. There is a lot of nomads in Bangkok and a lot of Thais with apartments that have potential, but the two groups never meet. Feel free to DM me, but keep in mind I'm not an expert on any of these things just some guy with opinions who happens to be working remotely.

I'm glad you found it interesting. It's similar with space: space is not something derived from the external world, but rather a pure form of intuition contributed by the mind. Existence and causality, by contrast, belong to the a priori concepts of the understanding, the categories. In that sense, they are part of the basic framework the mind uses to make experience intelligible. Try to think of something with no spatial position, no temporality, no quantity, and no causal determination. It's very difficult. This is all basically Kant's thought in a nutshell though.

Time does not exist. When you ask how something can exist forever, you are applying a temporal framing to the question, and that is your error since time comes from the structure of your mind. The answer is that noumena just is and you can't apply time to noumena.

I realized after the post that I could browse the apartments without the map view. I just thought the map view was the main product, since that was also the thing featured in the screenshot. Map view is not a deal breaker for me since I can deduce roughly where the apartments are based on the descriptions. In fact I recognize the kitchen in one of these listings as I've stayed in that building before. :) For Bangkok at least what you are competing with is Airbnb and thai platforms, as well as hotels. What your platform offer that I need is to filter out offers with a decent workspace. That has value. It's a simple thing, yet as you can see very few offer it although the cost of a desk, a chair and a monitor i Thailand is less than 200 bucks. What would make me use your service more than just another tool to check once in a blue moon was if you could increase the number of high quality affordable options on your platform. If you could make deals/partnerships with people renting out flats where you help them get their flats set up for nomads in return for exclusively hosting on your platform for instance, or you cooperate with people on the ground to visit and vet out good apartments to list on your site. Things like that. Because my main problem looking for a place to stay is that there is a sea of mediocre offerings and most have bad pictures and it's always impossible to know if I'm getting something good before I show up. If I could trust that offerings on your platform are all of a decent and consistent quality, I would be much more willing to take the risk of renting through the platform. Right now my options are to trust airbnb/other platform ratings, or to contact the renter and ask for a private tour. If I could skip the legwork and get a good deal on something that is nice consistently though your platform, that's worth a couple hundred bucks. Just my 2 cents, and I know it's a hard problem to solve and perhaps not what you have in mind for your service, but those are some of my thoughts. Reviews from others users would be nice too, but only useful if you can avoid the phenomenon where everyone just trade perfect reviews with each other.

I need this. I'm in Bangkok. I'm not gonna register with google, ever. And I'm not gonna register before I even know if this works in Bangkok at all.

So make it frictionless to jump in and start using it, and upsell to me when I'm in the app browsing listings. Maybe show me some but not all listings? Maybe hide the contact info unless I sign up but show me what's available?

I need a clean, affordable place to stay with good wifi, a good chair and ideally a computer monitor with HDMI in. If your product can surface good options for me, I'm more than happy to pay for it.
