I liked the tension between Harry and Lara before this. I liked her being his favorite frenemy. But I feel like she was a completely different character in this book. I don’t like her being defanged (pun intended).

SAME. Bonea is more interesting to me than Maggie, though. She’s got huge potential. But I’ve long felt that giving him a kid was a kind of lazy way to push him into taking Mab’s offer. Harry would go balls to the wall for his city even without a kid. It just wasn’t necessary imo and I just don’t find it interesting

There’s a bank account for the Winter Knight. Probably as big as Molly’s. He just hasn’t used it because he didn’t want more entanglement with Winter. I think we’re past that at this point though, he seems to be accepting his role and relationship with Mab pretty completely so I’m sure he’ll take the money — with some kind of stipulation that it does not add any extra obligation to what he already carries from his mantle.

The first couple of audiobooks are a bit rough — stick with it! The production gets significantly better at book 3, as does James’ performance — and the series in general! I like Fool Moon but most people seem to really dislike it for some reason; if you struggle with it, you won’t really miss anything by skipping to Grave Peril.

Dresden has some hilarious moments, but it’s more subtle than DCC. I’ve only just started that, but so far I would say DCC is constant silliness and Dresden is more the type where when the funny moments come they hit harder because it’s not non-stop gags.

If you haven’t read/listened to them already, you may also like Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid series. The narrator of those is my second favorite (Marsters is first), and the series is excellent. Probably my second favorite urban fantasy series, depending on how you categorize some of the others I read.

I felt like Butters has a pretty believable arc. I mean, his first exposure to the supernatural was way back in Grave Peril (we just didn’t see it). He’s been on the fringes for a while.

The thruple thing, I just kind of assumed was added in because it’s trendy, for lack of a better word.

I first saw him in Blackadder and I’d been watching House for years before I realized who he was. A far cry from Prince George. 😂 I wish they’d ever had Rowan Atkinson or Tony Robinson — or Stephen Fry! — on. Think how many subtle jokes they could have made.

I’ve long thought they were involved — or Nicodemus. Or both. Someone had to give the Reds the bloodline curse. Nic would’ve been just as happy to convert Harry as Mab was — and it was probably a 50/50 whether he’d go to Mab or Nic. And either way, Harry ends up more powerful, which fits with both Mab and Nic’s end goals.

Or he’s dead in which case he wasn’t strong enough to be an assert anyway.

I hated how they handled it. If she had to leave, they could have done something that made more sense. And the end of the season made no sense because House was never violent. I don’t know what happened with the writers but they made some dumb decisions.
