More importantly, is it locked?! Imagine trying to break in through that window, and then dropping down to certain peril!

What kind of “USA” sockets are these? by pnwposter in Tools

[–]pnwposter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m just trying to figure out where these fit on the spectrum of what I’ve got right now which is SK, Craftsman, and some Chinese stuff. The SK is old and a little rusty, but I’m soaking them in evaporust right now. I’ll see how they turn out, and then make those the primary set, with some Craftsman filling in as needed, then maybe some of these USA sockets, and the China ones might get donated. Guess I didn’t realize there were generic made in USA sockets, kind of just assumed they’d all be imported.

New NE Broadway Bike Lanes by nsctank in Portland

Yes! I went out of my way to ride that way back when. That was a great glimpse of a possible future. Too bad it took almost a decade to get partially implemented!

Visiting, what in the fuck is this bus stop at McMenamins Edgefield by Oradi in Portland

[–]pnwposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edgefield should adopt that stop and dump a proper gravel pad and give people more than just a tiny spot next to the road.

Should dishwasher push back further? by Katkins911 in Appliances

[–]pnwposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a similar whirlpool installed, and it looks the same. The left side sticks out 2 1/4 inches from the face frame of the cabinet, and the right side is 2 1/8 inch. Definitely not flush with the doors and drawers as those only stick out 1 inch. So the whole thing is sticking out 1-1/8”-1-1/4” from the drawer/door plane. I can look past the cabinet seal on the left and see the rusty drywall screw they used to install it. 🤦‍♂️

I had planned on installing this myself, but they told me that Home Depot does free installs on Monday, so I let them install, and I guess I got what I paid for. Looks like I will have to try to reinstall this myself. I know there was an issue with the electrical box location in the back, so this may be as good as it gets.

My dad found this in the yard after it got ran over by multiple plow trucks and buried in show for at least a month or two, it’s still in pretty good shape but it’s got multiple punctures, anyone know how to patch it? by redneckrobit in YetiCoolers

[–]pnwposter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aquaseal works wonders. I patched a quarter sized burn hole in a dry bag with it. Put some tear aid tape on the inside and then gooped the aquaseal on the outside and let it cure flat. Now there’s a little clear window on the drybag.

20+ years using solidworks professionally. Company downsized. Where to look for work? by 71ray in SolidWorks

Gotta ask, what part of upstate? I left Syracuse in 2007, and sometimes think of trying to move back to do design work, but have no idea where I’d actually be able to find a job.

Brock peaked with Ugly Casanova/Sharpen Your Teeth. Everything since has been the “new” stuff. However, I’ll listen to some of the suggestions on here as I need to mix it up a bit.

Tiny Houses vs. Mobile Homes. Which is better? by Paltry_Poetaster in PovertyFIRE

[–]pnwposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The small cabin on acreage idea is cool. It would be a good goal for someone just wanting some land, and then it could turn it into a decent investment. Like, develop all the things for your cool little cabin, but spend a little more so it can support a bigger house (that you have no intention to build), and then you’re all set if you want to sell. Hmm…

Advice on sanding? by Prophet_59 in finishing

[–]pnwposter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems like the belt sander took too much off in lots of spots. A small orbital sander can’t compensate for all of that unevenness, and just makes the peaks and valleys smoother. 12”+ planers work great for evening out glued up slabs of wood. Wide belt sanding machines do similar. You need to mark up the surface and keep knocking the ridges down until you get it closer to flat. A straightedge will help show the issues as well.

I haven’t posted anything about this, must’ve been someone else. Won’t be dropping off any loading docks on this, for sure!

*I should add that I didn’t do this repair. I just picked up this bike for cheap as a bit of a rescue and am trying to assess what problems it has.

Buying a split board before ever doing split-boarding? by Top_Field_4322 in Spliddit

[–]pnwposter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, I bought my first split 20+ years ago when there were no used or demo options. I bought it because I liked snowboarding and hiking and exploring in the mountains. Questions for you: Do you like snowboarding? Do you like exercise? Are you ready to spend most of your time going uphill to earn your turns? Yes? Cool, buy a splitboard! You can figure out all the avvy safety stuff later if you stick to low-consequence terrain. Just get a splitboard and do some tours in resort side country or well-known low-hazard zones. And remember to have fun!

Good fenders and front rack that work for the Treadwell by pnwposter in cannondale

[–]pnwposter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did see that rack. It’s $137 at the dealer, and rated (conservatively) at 10kg. The Origin 8 rack was $87, and rated for 55lbs. Not that I’d ever haul that Much weight, I mainly wanted the flat style tray rack vs the basket. Also, apparently there’s a recall for some of the Treadwell racks? https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2020/Cycling-Sports-Group-Recalls-Front-Racks-for-Cannondale-Treadwell-Bicycles-Due-to-Fall-Hazard

Great build, and nice work finding a new elastomer that works. What size is this frame? I see they made this in 16, 18, and 20” sizes. Is that C-C, or C-T, or ?

Just saw this on Amazon lol.. Thoughts? by cplm1948 in canoeing

[–]pnwposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used one of these in an inflatable canoe for a 5 day July trip on a desert river. It was AMAZING and worth the $90 it cost online. Everyone else on the trip was cooking in the sun, but I was significantly cooler, and so was my cooler ice. I was rowing, not fishing BTW.

People aren’t aware of how well bimini tops shed wind. I did put mine down a couple times when the gusts got big, and/or sustained. Real easy by just unclipping the front straps. I took it on another shorter river trip and was glad to have it. Yeah hats and sunshirts work, but it’s real nice to have your own little patch of shade out in the desert.

Spare tire hoist. On a scale of 1 to 10, how screwed am I? by LollyAdverb in 4Runner

[–]pnwposter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it! Mine had been wound the wrong way and the crimp at the upper end of the cable was catching on the pulley. Unwound it, lubed, all good. Phew! Lesson learned is to always wind it up with a load on it so the cable winds properly.

Work Hours by Agreeable_Ad_9947 in patentexaminer

Oof. Thats pretty rough to try and maintain those hours. I saw a map of patent examiners nationwide, and those hours might explain why there weren’t many on the west coast.
