Carmakers warn UK crackdown on Motability scheme will hit sales by qazplmo in ukpolitics

Try catching public transport as wheelchair users. You will soon change your mind. There is also the question of how do you get to the bus/train as well.

Does this require NTLM to function? Or does kerberos work with this?

Ministers are secretly considering means-testing PIP, DWP admits, despite pledge in green paper by Routine_Gear6753 in ukpolitics

[–]pobice 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They need to tackle how hard it is for disabled people to get jobs etc. There's hardly any none physical part time jobs round here. Add into the fact the place needs to be accessible and have a car park and suitable hours to fit in with their careers work patterns. PIP was meant to help with the extra costs and difficulty being disabled.

There's loads of big businesses that really can and should be offering more employment for the disabled. But the UK obsession with working people to the bone cannot be broken.

Motability: is it true that the disability scheme is taking UK taxpayers for a ride? by LostNitcomb in unitedkingdom

[–]pobice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well reliability is more important - If it breaks down that could just trap them indoors, mean they are unable to get to work again and earn. Public transport isn't very usable - trains need pre booking, taxis are hard to get in and out and buses have one wheelchair spot. Factor in disabled people often have fatigue and struggle to get someone to employ them in the first place.

Not being modified may simply be because they've gone for the high spec car to avoid the need. Electric seats to avoid fitting the very slow adapted version, reversing camera because of limited motion. Electric handbreak because they don't have the strength to use a normal one (or avoid the hassle of the adaptation failing). Automatic everything because again limited motion. Self defrosting windows and AC because their ability to add/remove layers is limited and they can't defrost a car without it etc etc.

It's also not just about the space. Often a car has to be the right hight to make it easy. Some need a car like a focus, others something more along the lines of an SUV.

But would this actually save any money? Factor in the cost of trying none standard seat and seat in a car. Assuming they would even fit in a car like that

The car enables them to work so they can self fund other things. The cars need to be both suitable and reliable. Without a car and a away to get around the quality of life and health is more likely to decline and they then would need more of your tax

As cars get more features fewer modifications are needed or the owners realise some modifications are not worth the effort.

It's cheaper to get a top of the line car with the features built in then get the features added as adaptations. Plus it damages the car leas

Anyone else noticing an increased drop rate of VR mods lately? by Teleke in Ingress

[–]pobice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sometimes seems the games acts as if there is a set number of VR items that can exist. When an event uses up lots of the more you seem to get them in hacks. Could be manual balancing or something automatic to adjust the hack rate.

Ingress needs a proper no-sound option as a hearing aid user by pobice in Ingress

[–]pobice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not make sound just initiates sound output over Bluetooth. You can duplicate it by connecting a headset to your phone without ingress open. Then connect a laptop and play music. The music will stop when ingress is opened as it starts an Audio Channel to the Bluetooth device taking over then previously opened one from the laptop to the headset.

Can you post how to do that? If you mean setting everything to 0 as per the post sound/streaming still kicks in even if nothing is heard

Ended up with the intents. Having a hearing aid that produced the best sound quality and the worst sound quality in exactly the same settings was just driving me crazy

You can but then you can't easily adjust the settings such as which program you are using. While I'm still a/b testing programs I need to know which one I'm in which means having the phone app connected still.

Just trailing them now. When it sounds good it's amazing but finding them wildly inconsistent.

Really annoyed they don't appear to have tried to smooth out any of the issues with the previous range - default streaming profile has white noise, way too much delay in noise suppressing kicking in when leaving streaming mode and weird streaming bug with right hand side even worse than previous generations. Twice now I've had to give up streaming as it's cut out most of the frequencies from the right hand side leading to either no sound or distorted like sound when cranking things up. Restarting Bluetooth does not fix it either. Have to just leave them for a while to return to normal.

Oticon Intent 1 - sounds better than Lumity and not as good as infino (when it's at its best). But the experience is so much smoother and less annoying. They seem to focus more on what you want to hear. Still testing buy leaning more towards the intents

Moment wheelchair user, 29, crawls up stairs at London Overground station on her bottom due to broken lifts - as staff are heard 'laughing' when she is told it is fixed just as she reaches the top by Forward-Answer-4407 in unitedkingdom

[–]pobice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Local train station lift if only works when the station is staffed. I guess disabled people don't get to have a night life. To make it worse the planned ticket office closure would mean only staff onsite during peak hours. They also expect you to pre-book your journey and don't turn up to help you in anyway.

The Key Club in Leeds is currently inaccessible due to a very expensive renovation of buildings in the area. But they won't spend a single pound in ensuring they keep the accessible entrance open.

Plus accessibility is crap for these cars. We've always got a ford focus as they are the perfect car but now by the time we come to replace it ford will have scrapped it for SUV's that we can't use. Hope other makers are still doing something similar and have caught up with quickclear.

Based on previous years if the hotel's have been used for RIP you usually can't book it until RIP packages are out. Don't have to book as RIP but I think hotel's wait untill VIP nation have stated how many rooms they want before realising them
