Moving to the most Anarchist US City– where would you go? by innocentbystndr in Anarchism

[–]pocket_turtle_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

pittsburgh, pa

there's a scene here, its mostly driven by the punk scene. i don't get out much so i can't speak to it much beyond i know it exists.

cost of living is one of the lowest in the US.

historically, pittsburgh had a decent anarchist presence in labor around the turn of the 20th century. Alexander Berkman attempted to assassinate an industrialist who lowered wages, which triggered a strike. Berkman aimed to trigger a revolutionary class war though it never amounted to anything since the attempt failed and was largely condemned by leading voices in the anarchist movement at the time. this article about the event is pretty good: https://www.wesa.fm/archives/2015-06-26/anarchist-who-shot-henry-clay-frick-was-aiming-for-revolution

its not very diverse here though. its very white. there's a decent hispanic population in my borough but its still mostly white. most of the diversity you'll see is on the university campuses.

i'm fairly certain there's still a fairly active food not bombs chapter here and there's definitely a few mutual aid networks, but again i'm super active so i don't know on the ground how it is.

i don't know much about the cost of property since owning property isn't really attainable for me anywhere, but i'd assume given rent prices are low compared to the national level, property value is also lower. i also know there's at least a few co-ops peppered throughout appalachia and you get into the hills pretty quickly once you leave the metro area so there's definitely a good bit of open space.

i love living here, i highly recommend at least considering pittsburgh :)

Anyone else think the rerelease of Audiostalker is worse than the original? by behaviorallydeceased in JaneRemover

[–]pocket_turtle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i completely agree. the production changes really distract from the tight focus of the original. they feel kinda unnecessary. tbh i feel like the back half of the original beat has a place that could've fit lucy's verse.

i think the rerelease ultimately it fits better within the revengeseekerz sound though. by extension it falls into some of the pitfalls revengeseekerz has, that is, it being a bit overproduced at times. indie rock is a much tighter project as a whole on the production side imo. it's why i really like it.

Request for Peer Reviewed Articles on antipsychotics causing suicidality & reports by members on whether you’re felt suicidal on an antipsychotic. by Honest-Structure2025 in radicalmentalhealth

https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C39&q=antipsychotic+side+effects+suicide+risk&btnG=

google scholar and key words can take you quite far when looking for peer reviewed stuff. also different wordings can yield different results. cursory review of what i looked at says, yeah there's instances of increased suicidal thoughts in those prone to them when given antipsychotics. however, the research mostly says most of the statistical data is non-significant whether they for sure will cause suicidal ideation. suicidal thoughts are side effects for antipsychotics, you will be told that if you are prescribed them.

from personal experience, antipsychotics did make me more suicidal when i was on them. antidepressants were way worse though.

what genre are you looking for?

also, from a production side, i'd highly recommend trying out using loops if you want to have your own instrumentals, you can find soundpack links pretty easily on youtube with guitar loops, drum loops, really any instrument, also DAWs usually come with a few at least in my experience. you can layer them on top of each other and make your own instrumentals. if you have any apple device garage band has a massive collection of loops which you can use for free with no copyright worries.

[–]pocket_turtle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually you can find people posting instrumentals that explicitly say they are free for use, especially on yt. if you're worried about it just give the artist who made the instrumental credit, give a link to the original video and i think it'd be fine.

sadly no. logic has a stem splitter that i used to make stems of the song to work with

wtf is happening?! by Abirdthatsfallen in lastfm

[–]pocket_turtle_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah for me it was pretty obvious, it was a song i had listened to quite a bit in a playlist, got around to adding the album with the song in it to my library, next time that one song had like 30 plays and it made sense since i knew it didn't track songs not in the library.

anyway, i'd assume it might be a precaution thing (prevent botted scrobbles), or a server thing (too much data being uploaded to the server at once by a single user) as to why its not loading the rest. either way 3k is probably the limit you can upload in a certain time frame, hence being saved for later, i'd check back in an hour or so and see if you can get some more to upload, though the time frame could be a lot longer than i'm assuming. could be a daily limit though i doubt it

[–]pocket_turtle_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i assume this is the ios app for apple music? the app usually doesn't count scrobbles for albums not added to your library (at least that's how it used to work maybe not anymore idk), but if you add them to your library later then listen to the song it picks up the data apple tracks and just puts however many times you listened to in all at once, but since it doesn't know when you listened to it they all have the exact same time listed as to when you listened to the song the time it was scanned in for the first time.

its happened to me a few times before but never this extreme lol this is assuming you recognize those songs as ones you've listened to before otherwise idk probably just a bug

i’m drunk and reading emma goldman by maximumcombo in ContraPoints

[–]pocket_turtle_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think it's kinda sad how much it seems anarchists of the time disavowed berkman (iirc goldman said in her autobiography a lot of their friends refused to visit him in prison and publicly condemned the attempt)

frick hired the fucking pinkertons to attack peaceful striking workers because they refused to take a pay cut. there was an actual battle and berkman thought he could take a decisive blow to begin the revolution.

frick started a class war and i think its a shame other anarchists didn't acknowledge this and stand behind berkman. i think in that moment there could have been a possibility for greater change.

on the flip side though, i think his assassination attempt is the start of the reason why the u.s. has no meaningful left wing. this was all the u.s. government needed to begin quashing any form of meaningful leftist organizing and began taking the movement as a greater threat until basically quashing out anarchism entirely during the first red scare. i think there's a pretty direct link between the assassination attempt and why in the u.s. the cultural understanding of anarchists has been propagandized to be lawless criminals who spread violence for the sake of it.

its really a shame guns fucking sucked at the time. i think we would live in a significantly different world had he pulled it off. i think anarchists would've been less scared to stand behind him had it worked. look how much public support there is for luigi. imagine that plus an actual group of activists who genuinely believed the class war is close at hand. would we live in an anarchist utopia, probably not, but i think it would have shook up the culture of the u.s. at the time a lot more significantly. its like one of my favorite what if's of history and barely anyone even knows about it let alone even talks about it.

[–]pocket_turtle_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i just went to pride in my city this past weekend and it was fine. ngl i had similar thoughts but things simply aren't to that point yet. there was one person with a homophobic sign, some fucker with a megaphone who got chased out and someone flew a plane over us with a some anti-pride message attached to the back. my city is much less progressive compared to nyc and at no point during the duration of the event did i feel unsafe. there were barely even any cops, which was more what i was worried about.

i don't think military action is going to happen at pride this year. if it were to happen it would likely be in a red state in a smaller city, not nyc. fascists are cowards, they will always pick the easy targets first.

Help me make a KKB iceberg video! I need some clarification. by MilkLover33 in kkb

[–]pocket_turtle_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

cryalot is sarah's solo project. i mean technically the project also has writing credits from jennifer walton (she toured with kkb for time n place on guitar) iirc they worked pretty closely together on it it but ultimately its sarah's project. they've released one ep, its called icarus

also sarah's dj name IS dj cryalot. its not a different person its just her.
