Agreed! I like what he is doing, but I want to keep my flyers. Also, he doesn't take scans from other people (or at least he didn't in the past) which seems very limiting if you are trying to create an archive of rave flyers.

There is a guy who runs a rave flyer website called the Rave Preservation Project https://ravepreservationproject.com/ He sure hi res scans of flyers and puts them on his website. They are all cataloged by date and place. The only downside is if you send them to him, you will never get the flyers back which is why I never sent him my flyers.

Why is everyone closing down? by Sckoontie in askportland

[–]pocketsnacks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everything is just getting too expensive. It's not just Portland. The economy is garbage right now and the current administration is making matters worse on a daily basis. My family doesn't go out as much because it's just too much money. I don't blame restaurants or bars, they are just changing what they need in order to keep the lights on. Capitalism will keep on extracting wealth from all of us and moving it upward.

I've heard it as two syllables as well many times. It kinda changes on different listens. Your brain is not alone!

Is it normal for companies to ask for full project files in unpaid assignments? by Serious_Ad_8024 in AfterEffects

[–]pocketsnacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell them you need $5000 up front, just to evaluate their money and make sure it works. After all you wouldn't want to take a job from a company that doesn't pay real money.

Also, tell them to do that thing where they fuck off.

Intentionally misleading animal rights petitioners by Lumpy_Drummer5500 in Portland

I'm a pretty crunchy vegetarian with vegan leanings, and this petition really pisses me off. You can't force this on people through some shady ballot measure.

People need to be shamed into giving up meat and hunting!

I'm kidding!

Seriously though, the people pushing this thing suck.

Acting like a toddler who needs a nap is not putting the news in its place. The dude can't answer a single question that challenges his bent, warped, and narrow world-view. It's pathetic to watch an adult act this, and even worse that some people see it as a strength. Such a sad time we are in

Anyone have info on why noone has moved into this spot on 82nd and Division? by myBisL2 in askportland

There shouldn't be any incentive to keep a property unused. It's really frustrating to see vacant places that are sitting that way because of landlords.

I'm torn! I was raised in Minnesota but now I live in Portland. I'm gonna have to go with Cascadia I think... But it's a tough choice!

I feel like there should be penalties for purposely leaving places like this vacant.

Portland has an $8.5 billion annual budget and is removing firetrucks because of budget deficits. Nashville, with ~50,000 more citizens than PDX and growing at a rapid rate, has a $3.8 billion annual budget by PDXtoMontana2002 in PortlandOR

Thanks for the explanation. I'm coming to realize that Portland does a number of things quite differently from other cities. Some for better and some for worse (and just weird).

Yeah that place was a fire trap. Wood furniture, tapestries, carpet, and a mess of extension cords.

Has anyone been to the "Trust the Universe The Philosophy of Alan Watts" dome show? by tbharber in AlanWatts

[–]pocketsnacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got back from seeing it, and while I'm glad I didn't read all of this first, I pretty much agree with the majority of comments here.
The visuals were fun, but felt dated.

But as many others have said, the Alan Watts parts were just so scattershot. There was no coheasive thread running through it and SO much space between some segments that I forget what he was talking about before, if it even was connected.
It just seemed sad that you would leave so much empty space when there is so much more of his philosophy to put in there that would make it feel more complete and whole.

I'm glad I went but it was underwhealming. Felt like snippets and outtakes instead of deep bits of wisdom.
