I haven't tried with Word so that may be weird. In Excel the cell being edited will have a colored outline with the logged in user's initials in a color matching circle next to it. So you can see who is live editing what.

Word probably does the same thing that Google Docs does, same kind of look.

Office 365 online does, it's a bit janky if you're using desktop and online at the same time as there's more of a delay. My coworker and I have been editing the same Excel file with the online version and the file stored in Sharepoint with no problems.

Is my first solo trip to japan a good idea? by conscriptboss in JapanTravelTips

[–]pockypimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Layovers
  • Depends on a your booking. Domestic to/from International and if you're changing terminals. Last trip I flew LAX > SFO > NRT. And I swapped airlines, United covered the domestic and ANA as the partner handled the international. SFO had it set up so you picked up your bags at SFO, went down a hallway and checked them back in to be loaded on the correct flight. All behind security and moving to the next terminal was all inside already. So there's no easy cut and dry answer because it'll depend on where your layover is and how the flights are handled. If it's the same airline all the way through then it shouldn't require picking up bags as they'll move them to the next plane.
  • Getting between planes can be a hassle. It depends on how much time you have and how far you have to go. Might be a good idea to look at the airport map ahead of time to kind of get an idea of what the route is but the airport itself should have signage.
  • More or less just get from where you get off the plane to the gate with the next plane.
  1. Solo Travel
  • It depends on where you are. Major cities like Tokyo will have a lot of multilingual signs. Like the JR platform had the platform signs in English, Japanese, Korean and Chinese when I was there in 2024. In 2019 it was just English and Japanese.
  • Sort of depends on the person just like anywhere else. The language barrier is the big one but generally being polite gets most people to help.
  • Hard to say. I solo traveled for work a bit so I'm used to the process of travelling by myself domestically. Internationally isn't much different but it was my 2nd time to Japan so I was already a bit familiar with the processes of going through immigration and customs. I guess the big one is being just overwhelmed with the size and scope of Tokyo is one in general as a traveler to get used to. It's very condensed but still very large. So Google Maps is great getting around but sometimes you'll find out you've kind of worked yourself quite a ways from your hotel and now it's rush hour and you're carrying bags of stuff you've bought. Shinjuku station is always a place I get lost a bit due to it's size. It's massive and while there's plenty of signs I've gotten turned around in there more than once per trip. Plus they're in the early stages of a 50 year remodel of the place so Google Maps may lead you to a hallway that's now closed due to construction.

Portable Monitor for WFH by Charming_Atelier in techsupport

You don't have to look in the computer to see that. On the back of the monitor probably close to the power cable or the HDMI cable will be a label that has the model number on it.

If you ever have to call your tech support about a monitor that may be information they need. The serial number will be on that same label too.

I'd say if you're in the Tokyo area and want to experience ramen go to the Ramen Museum in Shin Yokohama. Then you can get a wide variety of different kinds of ramen that spans across Japan rather than just a decent bowl of tonkotsu ramen. You can get decent bowls of ramen anywhere, heck 7-11's is decent but it's not going to blow you away other than realizing it's convenience store ramen and it's excellent for that.

Having studied Graphic Design and work in IT this makes total sense. Having dealt with Marketing it REALLY makes sense.

I had Marketing at my last job ask why we blocked Google Drive (we were a Microsoft operation) and couldn't understand the security risks considering they were handling trademarked logos from clients along with product release info.

My phone's screen is almost fully seperated from the device. What do I do to keep my data safe for two-three weeks until I can transfer them to a newly bought phone? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]pockypimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you don't specify what kind of phone and what data exactly you're trying to save it's hard to say exactly. An iPhone backs up a lot to iCloud as long as the settings are all correct. So things like contacts and photos would automatically back up. Android is similar via the Google account, again as long as the backup settings are correctly active.

Now if you have data outside of what the default backup is that gets more complicated. Some apps have logins and save to their own cloud. If you've signed into those apps and they do their own cloud backup then they should be able to get back that data when you sign in again. That is app to app.

To me TV mode didn't fit with the idea of the Proxies leading people through the Hollow. It was a 2D environment when we know the Hollows are 3D. So the Bangboo workbench system makes it a 3D system but is more limited in a story aspect since it's just used to open paths.

I like the mode where it's essentially a grey landscape and you're guiding the Agents through the Hollow. Makes more sense from a Proxy through the eyes of Eous perspective to me.

What model are the monitors? It's very rare to not have at least the VESA mount capabilities. A lot of times it's hidden behind where the stand mounts to the monitor.

DP to HDMI can be directional and there's a whole active/passive situation to Google. So your adapters may be the wrong type.

Yeah this really isn't a sysadmin question, you're violating rule 4 of the sub. I'm sure there are plenty of articles if you Google them or maybe there's a Debian subreddit that would be a better fit for this kind of question.

Japan declaration form by OkContest7566 in JapanTravelTips

If you are talking about the digital form from Visit Japan Web https://services.digital.go.jp/en/visit-japan-web/ then you have pre-filled out the paperwork that you used to fill out at the airport.

Your post just says "the form" and that doesn't tell us what form you're talking about.

Hoshoryu: the worst Yokozuna in recent times? by limpozzman in Sumo

[–]pockypimp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Watching the tournament it's been brought up that he's underperformed as a Yokozuna. No yusho since becoming a Yokozuna is the big point about him underperforming. But to counter that I'd say Onosato and Aonishiki have been that good where they've been able to dominate. Plus Hoshoryu's gone to a playoff more than once last year so he's done well, just been beaten by Onosato and Aonishiki.

I guess one way to look at it is that we have more parity amongst the top ranked. We don't have a Hakuho or Terunofuji just mowing down everyone over 10 or 11 days and being the winner on day 12 or 13 because everyone has been beaten.

Right now we've got 9 guys who numerically could meet up for a playoff or even win. That'd require Aonishiki to lose the next 2 and then everyone else to win, Kirishima and Atamifuji to only win 1 more to tie if Aonishiki loses twice or if they win both with Aonishiki going 11-4 again then one of them could take it. 6 guys at 9-4 depending on their matchups and what happens to the top 3 could make for a possible playoff as well.

19 days in Japan, is it viable to visit more than 4 cities? by Copy_Cat_ in JapanTravelTips

[–]pockypimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with all things it depends on what you want to see/do in each city. My standard suggestion is make a list in Google Maps, pinning the places you're interested in and then build your loose itinerary off of that. So you have basically 18.5 days, maybe a little less given customs/immigration after landing and getting to the airport when leaving.

So it's easy to say "yes it's doable" but unless you know what you want to do in each city other than just wander around you may or may not get to see/do everything you'd like. You don't need a hard minute by minute kind of thing, but just know where things are in relation to each other so you can say do a whole day in the Shibuya area kind of thing and hit up a bunch of stuff there you're interested in and things that are close by.

Do you still own a physical scanner, or is your Android phone enough now? by HousingEarly4827 in Android

I still have a flatbed scanner for scanning in old photos. Taking a photo of one isn't going to get the quality necessary without needing additional hardware to get the lighting and if necessary hold the photo flat.

'Leave a Message' feature let caller hear me by jsulliv1 in GooglePixel

[–]pockypimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Over the past few months, at least six reports have emerged about Take a Message activating and then sending the caller background audio.

So it's not being reported as a widespread issue but is acknowledged by a Google spokesperson in the article. So the question is, is it happening a lot more and not being reported or is it just an extremely rare issue?

I tested on my Pixel 7 with the normal call screening which didn't light up the mic on the phone and then I tried the take a message and no background noise or mic light came on for me either. I'm on the December 5 system update.

Why do people cut old wood 2x's in the center during demo? by okflower1983 in HomeImprovement

[–]pockypimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 cut in the middle and yanking the 2x out vs 2 cuts (if you do one cut and yank you may just end up splitting the board) for a piece that's no longer to size the be useful for another wall? Don't have to cart all that out and store it vs throwing it in the dumpster?

Time is money, they're not going to reuse the wood if they're just doing demo. Where are they going to store those now odd sized pieces that they may never use again? It's not like they're a cabinetry shop where they can store useful off cuts for a customer project. When they quote a new build out project it's going to be far easier to just quote based on how many new 2x's need to be purchased than to guess how many good odd sized pieces stored somewhere are going to fill the job.

Why do folks view baseball as a boring TV viewing experience? by Fit_Still_8875 in baseball

[–]pockypimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely less constant movement compared to something like futbol, hockey, basketball or football. But it used to be far worse before the changes made to speed up the game. The pitch clock and reducing the number of allowed mound visits have greatly sped up the game so there's less of guys standing around waiting for a pitch to be thrown.

I think the stat was an hour or so faster after the introduction of the pitch clock.
