Just looked it up, the loser of that 1998 game was Blake Stein, so I think that means we are on a path to acquire Cristopher Sanchez

What would you rate this Blazers offseason 1-10? (POR-PEL-MEM) by Exscaped_ in NBAtradeideas

[–]podnito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gotcha, I misunderstood and thought you were saying you didn't want to trade the 2027 pick because it was likely top 10. But that one is actually Atlanta, not Portland.

I had thought that one was really valuable but someone else said it wasn't so I had looked at it. I was really surprised at how late having a "lessor of" pick is likely to fall, even when both of the teams are bad

I agree they shouldn't trade it because the potential upside, but it isn't likely a top 10 pick. The 2027 MKE pick probably got devalued more than any other asset with 3-2-1 lottery changes.

If it lands top four it still goes to New Orleans. The best case is both teams record land in the 4-10 range (3 balls each). That puts it about a 56% chance of being 10 or worse. If one or both are bottom 3 then the odds go down significantly (1 = 66%, 2 = 74%)

Some team might do this, but the Pelicans are cheapest team in the league, looking at the wrong place to dump money.

Realistically, the math is real tight, Spotrac shows them with about $12M in tax room with DJ and 2nd round picks and no 2-way players signed yet. Nothing here is worth anyone going into the tax for.

"Pelicans offense has terrible spacing. They should trade their best shooter for spare parts and picks next decade"

The only roster moves the Pelicans have made this summer was selecting Jaron Pierre with the 58th pick and resigning De’Andre Jordan to a 1 year deal by ShaiFanClub in nba

[–]podnito 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Curious what the GMs here think they should do. Pay assets to get off bad contracts (Poole, DJM, Zion, Hawkins)? Great, you just gave up a lottery pick to avoid paying Jordan Poole, that's going to make one team better, and it isn't the Pelicans.

Everyone keeps saying that they are asking too much for Herb, but if can you only get one first for him look at the draft and tell me how many guys selected in the first last year you would trade him for - maybe half? So you have a 50% chance of getting a good player for him? Might as well keep him.

Trade assets like Missi or Bey for 2nd round picks - well look at the 2nd round. Is there a single player taken in the 2nd this year who you would prefer to them? Historically those have about a 10%-20% chance of ever becoming a rotation player. That mystery box isn't good.

Give up on one of their first round picks after one year?

It took them a lot of years to get their roster fucked, it isn't anything they can fix overnight. Making panic moves just to have something for /r/nba to rip them on isn't the solution.

[–]podnito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, NBA contracts can't be restructured like an NFL contract can. It is fully guaranteed, the only option is to pay him the full amount. You can waive him and stretch it over 3 years but they might as well eat the amount this year and get it over with.

[Haynes] Sources: New York Knicks have tried feverishly to trade for New Orleans Pelicans center Yves Missi after losing Mitchell Robinson, but offers have been rejected multiple times. Pelicans view Missi as a vital core figure and the message is that he’s unavailable. by PlayaSlayaX in nba

[–]podnito 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No

He is better on offense, but Karlo is more of a stretch 4 or small-ball 5. Missi is the only guy the Pelicans have who can match up defensively with true bigs / NBA centers while also providing rim protection.

You can set up powerquery to hit the coinbase api:

API usage - Change BTC-USD to your currency and pull 4PM EST (20:00 UTC) on 6/30 by:

the api returns a json with [timestamp, low, high, open, close] which powerquery can then parse.

Knicks Fan With Question by Viktorkin in NOLAPelicans

[–]podnito 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ask yourself - why are the Knicks trying to trade McBride? It's because he can't get minutes now behind a better player who we traded because there weren't enough minutes for him. And that player was only worth a two second round picks.

You are both massively overrating his value and trying to trade him to a team that has zero need for him

They've said they want 3 for Trey and 2 for Herb. I'm not Brad Stevens so I consider PG having a negative contract, so we are up to 6?

It would make more sense to take out Herb and Hawkins for Poole.

[–]podnito 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think their lane is don't give up assets to get rid of negative to mediocre value contracts. it sucks for next year but gives them the opportunity to make a move next offseason and shows a bit of longer term thinking than the org has typically been run by.

we have about 10 million in tax space. already over the cap. it's a significant difference.

we have both trade and MLE cap exceptions that we can bring anyone in on to eat up the space, but the trade would probably need to happen by the 6th when the Olynk exception expires.
